First of all, I tried to post this in the Powder Room, but I got an error message. I'm not shy, so I really don't care who responds. I used search and didn't really find an answer. After RNY, I've heard there can be bowel issues. Would any of these issues cause problems for anal sex? I'm not worried so much about just the act, but I'm wondering if things there get volatile so that if he comes there, would it trigger an issue? This is not something we do regularly, but once in a while it's a nice way to spice things up. I'm hoping my new plumbing won't take that away.

So, I've read posts where people said they had sex at a couple days post op. One post I read said they did it while patient was still in the hospital. I have a very healthy (or maybe even so high it's unhealthy) sexual appetite. I could go at it all day most every day. Today is day 4 post op, and while the idea of certain favors does greatly appeal to me in my head, my body would disagree. And I have had a pretty good recovery. Nearly no pain at all. Zero pain meds since the day after surgery. But intercourse??? No way! Now, I could give him pleasure, but that's about it. So, I'm calling bs. I'd say "Pics or it didn't happen," but I don't think that's allowed. Lol Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using the BariatricPal App

In the interest of efficiency, I copied a response I posted on another thread to give my story: I started at 283 in July 2009 with the band. I got down to 218 and maintained between 223-228 until I got pregnant in 2012. Although I was still very overweight, I was happy with my band and much healthier. I would've been satisfied and would've had the band again just for that weight loss. During my pregnancy, I didn't gain much. I got up to 244 thanks to preeclampsia. I had hyperemesis during my pregnancy, and I had to have a complete unfill. My daughter came early, so she was in NICU for 58 days. I stayed with her the entire time. Between being hospitalized before her birth until she came home, I lived at the hospital for over 2 months. By the time we came home, I was back to my pre-pregnancy weight. I tried to get fills again and could only tolerate 1/2 of the fill I was at before I got pregnant. (I had 5ccs in a 10cc band; now I have 2.5ccs) Ever since the fills started again, I have not been able to get to a good spot. I still can't get food down until the late afternoon 3-4 days a week. My thyroid has also taken a crap. I gained back up to 270. My thyroid levels are not stable. I am constantly having to increase my meds. I am bordering close to diabetes, and I've been back on the diet rollercoaster (but with little success losing, so not much to gain back) and my endo says enough is enough, and I need surgery. I had not been to my surgeon in over 2 years because I didn't see the point since I wasn't needing a fill. Come to find out, my band may have slipped while it was unfilled, so that could very well have been causing my issues. In any case, I'm now on the road to revision to RNY. My surgeon feels it's a safer revision due to the location of the band and where these two surgeries require staple lines. So...that's my very long story as to why I will be having a revision. So, I had my EGD today, and we were quite surprised. He told my mother-in-law, who accompanied me, that my band was "perfect in every way," and that I could, "have either one I want." So, now I'm filled with questions: First of all, if my band is perfect, why am I having these issues? Then, do I really need a revision or could I get my band adjusted and lose this without a revision? If I do need a revision, which should I go for? If I don't need a revision, where do I start working with my band again? I had my head all wrapped around this, and now I'm full of questions and wonder. If anyone has been in a similar situation or has any other advice or insight, I'd sure appreciate it.

BariatricPal Policy Reminders – Everyone Please Read!

Yes. However, let me give you this cautionary tale. I have trouble with low BP. (I know that seems weird for a big person, but I'm weird, lol) I have a history of passing out during weightloss from low bp. This happened to me as soon as I came home from the hospital. We talked to our program's bariatric nurse and she suggested a few things to help, one of which was to drink Powerade Zero in place of Water to raise my sodium. I did the things she suggested, and only passed out once more. Fast forward to one day shy of my 3 week mark, and I had a visit to my surgeon. He was happy with all my progress and asked how I felt. I told him I felt great except that I had only had 1 bowel movement since surgery despite taking Miralax to help. He told me he told the nurse to correct her information. He said my constipation was likely exacerbated by the powerade replacing water. He said that the artificial sweeteners in it acts as a diuretic, and that 12 oz of PZ can make you evacuate as much as 48 oz of water! My point is, yes, it's fine but don't overdo it. You don't want to get constipated. I switched back to water and continued miralax. I had to take one dose of MoM, but I am finally straightened out now. I have an IUD, and I haven't had a period on years. However, since surgery (4 weeks yesterday), I have occasional spotting. It was pretty constant for a day or two, now just every now and then. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using the BariatricPal App -

This could be a fun thread. Here's my start. You might be a WLS patient when you wash two days worth of dishes using a bowl as your wash pan. ???? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using the BariatricPal App -
My only concern is that you may need more than a week off. I had rny, so my experience is similar but not the same. That being said, I went back to work on day 21 and had to take day 22 off. I was exhausted. And I'm a teacher. My job isn't physically demanding, but it took a toll on me just being up and going that long. Also, I couldn't have hid my drain which I had for 2 weeks. Just my $0.02. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using the BariatricPal App

The only obstacle I can think of is that you might need to resubmit to insurance. Mine had to approve the specific surgery. Best of luck! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using the BariatricPal App -

Our surgical group really stresses that left side pain is to be expected. They say this is the largest incision, whether it be sleeve or RNY (those are the only two surgeries our group does now) and that is does involve the muscle. Also, they said this is where they pass the stapler through. They suggest we wear our binders as long as necessary as the pressure helps relieve some of he pain. I didn't need any pain meds after 24 hours when they took away the PCA pump at the hospital until 2 weeks out. I've had 3 doses now, all for this left side pain. The girls in my group say that one day, it will just be gone. I'm hoping it goes soon! Hope yours goes away soon too!

Insurance coverage of band to sleeve?

Insurance coverage of band to sleeve?
Who'sThere replied to korin3723's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I would say it would likely cover revision to another surgery if it covered the other. Again, though, that depends on your specific policy. As for losing more slowly after revision, so far, that is not true for me. I am losing faster this time than I did with my lapband. I haven't updated my signature because I've not been on my laptop, but I always stayed between 270-265. I weighed 257 the morning of surgery (thanks preop diet!). My discharge notes have me weighing out at 268.4. Apparently fluids and swelling add a lot! Today, I'm 244.4. That's 24 pounds since I was discharged on 12/17. I know it will slow down, but I'll take it! With my lapband, I started at 283 and got to 218 in less than a year. I don't remember exactly, but I'd say around 10 months. I maintained between 223-228 until I got pregnant. I gained to 244 with my pregnancy and was at 228 by the time she came home 2 months later. (She was a preemie; I had preeclampsia. I lost weight until the very end from hyperemesis gravidarum.) I had a complete due to the HG. Once she was born, I could not get a good level of reatriction. Also, I have Hashimotos and the stress from her birth and hospitalization sent that into a tailspin. My thyroid basically stopped functioning. So... I needed a revision to a metabolic surgery. That's my story. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using the BariatricPal App -

I have also wondered what the full feeling is like until the other night. I had probably an ounce too much of a ricotta bake, and I felt full. It's hard to describe but I knew I had taken a few too many bites. Last night I thought I was full after about an ounce, so I stopped. In a few minutes I was okay to eat a little more. I think I had just eaten too quickly. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using the BariatricPal App -
Insurance coverage of band to sleeve?
Who'sThere replied to korin3723's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have BCBS TN and my revision process was pretty smooth. My first consultation about revision was September 26. My surgery was December 15. It was actually easier to get the revision approved than my initial surgery. What I would advise is call you insurance company and ask them to send you the specific criteria for bariatric procedures. Know your specific policy, and advocate for yourself. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using the BariatricPal App -
I cannot speak from personal experience of course, but I would imagine that this would be completely unique to the individual. I've eaten too quickly and had severe gas pain from gulping air. Some people do not seem to have that issue. If you do not suffer from gas pains frequently, I would imagine that it would be fine. If like me air/gas is still problematic at almost 2 years, it's something to consider. I'll have to buy gas x strips. We only get to see each other 5-6 times a year. I don't wanna miss a thing. Lol.
