    Insurance question

The bariatric pre-certification nurse said if they "remove the lapband and convert to RNY in one fell swoop" it is considered a revision and I do not have to meet the initial criteria. If i have two separate procedures, though, I DO have to meet the initial requirements again whether the band is out 2 days or 2 years. Now, I see why your insurance required the 6 months. Insurance question

@@Shaunie and @@CarenL, what insurance do you guys have? Was it an insurance requirement or surgeon requirement that you redo the whole process? Did your policy look anything like mine? I'm very discouraged at this point. Oh, and what we're y'all's reasons for revision? I'm hoping the 3 way call will help, too. The lady I talked to at insurance today said she couldn't guarantee that they will do a 3way call but to call and ask whoever was working tomorrow. :/ Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using the BariatricPal App

    Insurance question

I have BCBS TN for state employees. This is what they sent me, but my surgeon's office staff thinks it means I have to meet BOTH unfilled circles. Ugh! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using the BariatricPal App

    Insurance question

This is a revision. I've already done all that the first time. My surgeon only wants me to do a brush up nutrition class, support group meeting, EGD and barium swallow. I agree that this is important for WLS virgins, if you will, and so does my surgeon. He requires all this whether you have insurance or not for a first procedure. He knows I am adequately prepared for the revisions. Well, at least as much as one can be for such a serious life changing surgery. Oh, and if I DO have to do the 6 month diet, I will NOT qualify if I lose 10% or more of my body weight. I have to show an INABILITY to lose that much by conventional means. Plus, I have to have been a bmi or 40 or more for 5 years and I haven't been. (I dont have three comorbidities yet.) My band was great until I had it unfilled with my pregnancy and then i a double hit with a Hasimotos flare up. I will have to wait 2 more years. f**king freezing

@@mikemy, thank you. His job is hit or miss laborwise. We can't afford for him to be off longer than disability insurance will pay, and they won't pay after the doc says he can go back. Did your doc write you out for 4 weeks? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using the BariatricPal App

Do you mind if I ask what kind of work you do? My husband said he would be interested in WLS but he worries about work. He is in industrial maintenance. He could take off the time for surgery, but he worries about going back to work. There is no such thing as light duty for his job. Sorry for hijacking this thread, but when you mentioned boots, it made me think about this... carry on. Lol Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using the BariatricPal App
  7. My surgeon's team (haven't specifically asked surgeon, he has a bariatric dietician and a bariatric nurse educator on his team) says no caffeine ever. They say this isn't because of the dehydration aspects but because it's a gastric irritant and can contribute to the development of an ulcer. This is what I'm having the most trouble with. I know im a caffeine addict because I have headaches without my sweet tea. I can substitute the sugar, but I don't think it's the lack of sugar that causes my headaches but the lack of caffeine. I'm a hard core sweet tea addict. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using the BariatricPal App

WHEN YOUR GOAL IS NOT ENOUGH

Well, I didn't weigh my goal in middle school, so I doubt I'll want or need to go further than that. Even if I don't hit it, I think I'll be okay. After my first WLS (I have LapBand and am revising to RNY) I set my goal to 199. I couldn't even imagine being smaller. I think that was a mistake because I got to 218 and stalled. I didn't push myself to go further because I couldn't see myself even being smaller and convinced myself being healthiER (not healthy) was good enough. Not again. I'm ready to go as far as I can, but at the same time, I won't be upset if I don't get to my prepuberty weight. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using the BariatricPal App
  12. Ok, yeah. When I saw the names together I read Colbert as kol-bert instead of kol-bear. It totally threw me off! Oh, I was the perfect age when they first came out and women were literally punching each other at the stores for them. We were poor, so it was a super big deal that a lady at church worked at a store that sold them and put one up for my mom to buy me for Christmas. I was so surprised because I didn't think I'd get one. Then I saved my allowance for 6 weeks to buy the second one. That was an eternity for a 7 or 8 year old! (I think that was my age then.) Hospital Stay

When you had your revision (if it was one procedure removing band and converting to rny) did you have to stay overnight or was this an outpatient procedure? My band was outpatient. Since I have a 3 year old, I'm hoping for outpatient again. My mother-in-law acted like I was nuts when I told her I thought it was outpatient. Am I crazy? Lol. Six week liquid diet!

OMG! I can't even imagine 6 weeks on liquids pre-op. I thought 10 days was bad before surgery. I'm super impressed...and tempted to try it myself to see what I can lose before my surgery. Wow! So disappointed in myself.

Don't beat yourself up. Learn from your mistake and move forward. I am converting from band to RNY and I will tell you, the pre-op liquid diet was 1,000 times worse than post-op. I can't speak for everyone, but I don't think I'm alone in what I'm about to say. Lack of willpower and an addiction to food are huge contributing factors to why I needed (still need) this to begin with. The surgery, or tool, helps you gain willpower and break the addiction. After surgery it will be much easier to withstand temptation. I may or may not have licked a Frito during my pre-op liquid phase. I did totally fine after surgery until post pregnancy where I regained some old habits while my band was unfilled. I know I need a tool to help me. I can't do this myself. I don't think you've damaged anything beyond repair. Some surgeon's don't require such lengthy pre-op liquid diets. Mine only requires 10 days, so I wouldn't have started by now if my surgery was Oct. 31. Keep your chin up and remember that tomorrow is a fresh start. Best of luck to you! Reflux caused by EGD?

Well, I took some nexium, and it completely took care of it. I didn't even call the surgeon because 1) it was gone by Monday morning and 2) I was too busy puking after my barium swallow. Yuck! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using the BariatricPal App
  19. So, I have never had reflux. I've had heartburn twice in my entire life. However, I have had what I guess is reflux almost constantly since my EGD on Friday. The back of my throat is burning, and it's causing a cough. It's worse when I lie down. Has anyone else experienced reflux that seems to be caused by your egd? I had no idea this could happen. For those who have reflux or Gerd, I am sooo very sorry for you. This is miserable. Also, what is the best oct med for it??? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using the BariatricPal App

    One odd fact about you

This isn't about me but my hair dresser, and I'm sharing because it's one of the oddest and most interesting things I've ever heard. She was a twin inutero, but her twin died and her body absorbed her sibling. She has two different colored eyes and several sets of double organs. She also has 2 sets of DNA. How weird/cool is that? She has four ovaries and two uteruses, so when she has female trouble, it truly is double trouble! Actually, that should be past tense. She had all her female organs removed a few years ago because it was so bad. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using the BariatricPal App

    Reflux caused by EGD?

Gah! I hope this lessens if it has to take that long to go away. I am very hoarse right now, and I'd say by tomorrow afternoon I won't have a voice. That's not very good for a teacher. Lol Also, this tells me how much more of a fighter my daughter is. She suffered from severe GERD (actually diagnosed during a 3 day hospitalization due to problems from it) when she was an infant and younger toddler. She seems ok now and is off her meds for it. I knew it was bad because of all the problems it caused her, but it hits home more now that I'm feeling the pain. Hers even caused her heart to stop on occassion, so I can't even fathom that degree of pain. Bless her! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using the BariatricPal App
