Hi Christa! I'm in Mansfield so a pretty close neighbor! I haven't had surgery yet but recently found out from my doctor that he thinks I'm a better candidate for the vertical sleeve due to hiatal hernia problems. It's a restrictive procedure like the band so we will have similar situations I'm sure. I'm still messing around with insurance so will hopefully have my surgery in October. Who did your band? Alison

I have a confession to make - I have decided to go with the Vertical Sleeve surgery instead of the LapBand. My doctor says the sleeve is a better choice for me since I have a hiatal hernia and can avoid the potential for band slippage which is apparently higher in people with these hernias. I have my consultation with him in the morning and I guess we'll discuss it more. I don't know if I'm supposed to be on this website if I don't have Lapband ? :cool2: I'll let you know the final decision.

One for the Money is the name of the first Janet Evanovich book. I also have The Historian and haven't read it yet. Water for Elephants sounds good too.. Let's take a final vote - sorry, I'm a Libra and have trouble making decisions! (I don't really believe in astrology but I blame it on decisionmaking sometimes! :cool2:

I say let's do it! Today is July 14th so in about a month we can have our first "discussion" :smile2: I'm going to call my mom and see if she still has those books. She's a retired librarian and has a literal library at her house!
  6. I'll never forget the time my mother told me that she weighed 120 when she went in the hospital to deliver me and then she said "there's no telling what you'll weigh if you ever get pregnant!" I could probably remind her of that and she would deny saying it - she does that quite a bit but boy those kind of hurtful things really stick with you don't they?

Janet Evanovich is okay with me - I think my mom has read all of those - what do we do just start with the first one? Or does it matter? I also like the Lillian Jackson Braun idea - I'm a total cat lover so think that would be interesting.

    Could use some friends...

How about once a month and we can alternate where we go since everyone lives in different places? Should we just throw some dates out and see what happens?

Hey, that's great - I'm in Mansfield. Do you ever get together with any other bandsters? I've been talking to a girl in Fort Worth about maybe getting a group together, what do you think?

I'm back, and have a fill!

I've heard good things about Dr. Marsden too. Who was your first doctor? I'm still trying to decide who to use.

Hi ercole, I'm from Texas too - DFW area - are you coming this way to have your surgery? What doctor are you using? I have one more seminar tomorrow and then I'm going to decide between 2 that I have been thinking about. I'm scared too but really excited as well to finally have some real help to getting a grip on my bad eating habits. Keep in touch, Alison

I have read A Child Called It and boy is it good - very very sad story about a child abused by his mother. I have been meaning to read these: 1. Stolen Innocence - by Elissa Wall: My story of growing up in a polygamous sect, becoming a teenage bride, and breaking free of Warren Jeffs. 2. Saturday - by Ian McEwan: Follows an ordinary man through a Saturday whose high promise gradually turns nightmarish. 3. The Dowry Bride - by Shobhan Bantwal: Caught between tradition and the truths buried in her heart, a dowry bride will discover the real cost of the only things worth having in life. 4. The Woman Who Can't Forget - by Jill Price: The extraordinary story of living with the most remarkable memory known to science. Right now I'm reading a book called Many Lives, Many Masters by David Weiss - he was on Oprah the other day and I just thought it sounded interesting. He's a Yale educated psychiatrist who treated a girl who ended up describing past lives. Not sure I believe in all that but I do find it interesting. Lin, I think the Lightning Thief sounds good too! Okay, that's my contribution! Alison

    Out Patient or Overnight?

Hi Tween, My name is Alison and I live in Mansfield - I was wondering, is TLCEdge a center for people who have no insurance? I'm looking at a doctor in Southlake - Dr. Sewell - do you know of him? I'm going to his seminar on Tuesday. Thanks.

    New to Lapband talk

Hi Stankpj, I too am new and haven't been banded yet - still gathering information about it. I have a seminar to go to on the 8th before I make my decision on doctors. I'm scared too but I feel like it's the right thing to do. I have heard so many people say it's the best thing that they have done for themselves. Keep in touch and let me know how things go for you! Alison

My mom was in a book club and I think they suggested certain titles and then everyone voted on what to read. Just an idea. I am a total bookaholic so would be very interested. Alison

Hello Akira, I've been to one seminar so far and have another one next Tuesday and I would love to have someone to talk to about this whole process! Let's keep in touch, Alison
  20. Hi Mrs Flip Flops! I am also in the DFW area and wondered what doctor you used? I'm still in the researching mode but know that I want to be banded. Thanks, Alison

    Newbie from Texas

Hi LaDonna! I live in Mansfield and am going to my first seminar tonight! Who is your doctor? I'm going to Dr. Carter's seminar but not sure if he's who I will go to or not. I'm also looking at a doctor in Southlake. I haven't decided for sure about getting a band but am leaning toward YES! I would love to get to know you and the others from our area! Alison

    Hello From Fort Worth

Hi Lisa, I'm going to one of Dr. Carter's seminars tonight but not sure I will use him if I decide to get the band. I read somewhere that he does not give pain medication - is that true? Have you had any problems? I just feel funny that I'll have this "thing" inside me!

    Anyone in Dallas Tx

Hi everyone, I am also in the DFW area - Mansfield - and would like to start talking with you guys! I have not had the band yet but am seriously thinking about it and researching it. I'm scheduled to go to a seminar tomorrow even though I know I won't use the doctor that is giving it. I figure it can't hurt anything just to get information. I was at Barnes & Noble the other day and picked up a book about the surgery and discovered that the doctor that wrote it is in the Dallas area - Southlake. I think I'm going to try to go to his seminar as well! I guess I'm just having all the "should I" "shouldn't I" feelings right now. I have heard very little negativity so far. I look forward to making some new friends!! Alison
