I'm on the other side! So far it's good!
chiquitatummy posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My surgery was on the 23rd and I just got home, so I only needed one night in the hospital. As of today my pain and nausea have been well controlled and I have been able to get in 4 ounces of liquid about every 30 minutes. my cute little banana tummy is being a total champ! this is probably helped by my surgeon's aggressive anti-inflammation protocol, so thank you Dr.! The most annoying thing right now is that when the tube down my throat during surgery it scrapped my uvula (the dangling thing at the back of the throat) so it's now all swollen and bruised and it feels like I have a big skin flap in my throat. Could be worse, so I'm not complaining. How about the rest of you who had your surgery this week, how are you feeling? -
SURGERY COMPLETED!! 2/23 i FEEL GREAT AND NO HUNGER PAIN
chiquitatummy replied to Tim C's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
way to go! similar experience for me, none of my big fear happened (not being able to get fluid in, vomiting, uncontrolled nausea or pain) and I felt surprisingly good for most of my first day post-op. I start full liquid tomorrow, crossing fingers that goes well too. -
vitamins...when did you start taking them and how did it go?
chiquitatummy replied to chiquitatummy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
thanks for the replies and sharing of your experiences everyone. I got confirmation from my Dr. today that I should wait 1-2 weeks to start my vitamins. We'll see how I do with the chewables. It really helps to hear how others handled vitamins, so thank you! -
vitamins...when did you start taking them and how did it go?

I purchased a multivitamin off the recommended vitamins list provided by my program; I went with Bariatric Advantage Chewable Advanced Multi EA™ (Strawberry). I am having a hard time imagining chewing and getting them down post-surgery because the vitamin smell they have already yucks me out a bit. When did others start taking their bariatric vitamins and how did it go for you? Did you have more success with chewable, or pill form? Was it trial and error to find a vitamin that worked for you? -
18 hours away...and here come the nerves

My surgery is tomorrow afternoon. I was feeling pretty good, but now it's night time and my nervousness is rising. Any words of reassurance and wisdom from those who are on the other side would be welcome! -

Friend saw me for the first time in 3 months...
chiquitatummy replied to BayouTiger's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
thank you for the update! I'm so glad you gave yourself the gift of seeing your therapist sooner rather than later. BTW - you are not a burden or a wuss, this is damn hard stuff. this kind of self-change can expose/open our eyes to things in our life that need changing or that we at least need to step away from for a time while we take care of ourselves. -

I'm so sorry this happened to you. It's reasonable to be disappointed and hurt by the reaction and words you describe. People are full of opinions, but no one knows your health or what it has been like to be in your shoes better than you. I used a lot of my time with a pre-op therapist to untangle and work through the way others perceive WLS and may judge me for it. I have been surprised how helpful working with a therapist has been on the relationship side of WLS. One of the conclusions I have come to is that I don't owe anyone an explanation and I don't have to take on making them more comfortable with the idea of me having WLS. Another thing that came out of it is I have decided (at least for now) to have a very small circle of people that know I am having this surgery. Everything I have to work with to be on this path feels like a lot already and hearing the input and opinions of other people (especially when they are not educated in WLS) just feels like more than I want to take on at the moment. Sending you good thoughts! -
Strange feeling..... COLD
chiquitatummy replied to FINFAN3DP's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I just bought two electric blankets in preparation for this. After a lifetime of running warm I am used to feeling toasty without much effort (hubby warms his always cold feet on my always hot feet) I find I don't have much tolerance for feeling cold and get pretty whiny if I can't easily warm up. -
I'm on the last few days of my program's pre-op diet: protein shake for breakfast and lunch, veg or fruit for snacks, and a dinner of lean meat and veg. The day before surgery I am only allowed full or clear liquids. Post-surgery I will be on the full liquid diet for 4 weeks.

February 2021 Sleeve Surgery
chiquitatummy replied to LifelongJourney's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Three more sleeps until surgery day! Tomorrow I do my covid test, the next day I get my surgery time, and the day after - it's done! This has been a multi-year journey, a couple years of contemplation, then a full year of active participation in my clinic's program. Hard to believe it's finally happening. @Beccs2011 and @LisaZar I see we are surgery day pals - wishing you both the best of luck! -

February 2021 bypassers?
chiquitatummy replied to TreeTrunks's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I just got scheduled for February 23rd. Starting the liver shrinking diet in a few days. Covid delayed my progress so it feels surreal to be here. Not gonna lie, I'm nervous. Excited for the end results, but nervous for the surgery and first few weeks after.
