    Is The Band That Bad?

I had my band out a month ago. Still having muscle pain where port was removed and have gained 40 lbs since my fluid was removed but am sooo happy to have the band out. I am thrilled to be eating fruits and vegetables again. Now I just need to regain control.

    Is The Band That Bad?

I am almost in tears as I read this thread. I am having my band out on Wednesday because of the same issues a lot of you list here. I decided not to revise to a sleeve because my surgeon gave me such a hard time about having the band out that I was just done with it for now. I am totally unfilled at the moment and he suggested just leaving it in. I am so done with it I can't wait to have it on Wednesday. I will go to a different surgeon in the future if I decide to have the sleeve done. Thank you all for making me feel like I am not a failure and it is not all in my head. Can't wait to start eating healthy again and feeling well enough to exercise.
  3. Hi Trace,

You're doing great. I've lost 47 pounds so far. I started water aerobics twice a week and I think the exercise is helping. I go for a fill on July 17th which is a good thing because I feel myself slipping back into bad habits. I'm excited this week because I lost weight on vacation and that has never happened in my entire life. We went tot Great Wolf Lodge for a few days with the kids. It's an indoor waterpark so I did tons of walking and tons of stairs. Lots of exercise. I'm at 264 and can't wait to be under 200 (seems like a long ways off but maybe by our surgervisary :smile2: ). Take care.

  4. Hi Trace,

30 pounds is awesome. Think where we'd be without the band. I have 3.5 ccs and won't have another fill until July 10th. I'm at a stand still again. I started exercising this week and have lost nothing. It's so frustrating. Thanks for the compliments. Take care.

  5. Hi Trace,

I'm sorry your having trouble. I feel like I have restriction some days and not other days. I've lost 39 pounds but I seem to gain and loose the same few pounds for a little while and then finally keep it off and start the pattern all over again. I try to follow the eating plan on bariatriceating.com but don't always stick to it. I hope things start going better for you.

    Hugs, Sherry

What do you reward yourself with?

I'm going to add beads to my Pandora bracelet as rewards after every 25 pounds.
  7. Hi, My doctor is Dr Singh at St Agnes Hospital. I think he's awesome and his staff is very knowledgable and friendly. His front desk lady Mary is so nice and his nurse Cathy (who had gastric bypass) is full of great information and calls right back when you have a question. In the hospital my nurse had a lap-band and was so helpful and encouraging. Good luck to you. Sherry
  8. Hi Trace,

I got a nasty virus the day after my fill. Bad nauseau and diarrhea. At first I thought it was the fill and that it would happen everytime but then my husband and son got it too. I felt restriction for a couple days but not so much now. i've lost 30 but again am at a stand still. I'm going to wait a little while longer and then get a fill. I have to miss a half day of work and have someone cover for me so it gets complicated. I hope things get better for you.

    Sherry

  9. Hi Trace,

I'm sorry you're not feeling restriction. I had my fill today and it was much easier than I thought. No pain at all. Now a liquid diet for 2 days and I'm supposed to go back in 10 days if I don't feel restriction. He put in 3.5 ccs in a 10-11 cc band.

  10. Hi Trace,

I had a nice Easter. I hope you did as well. I also am down a jean size and could "shop" in my own closet. I'm down 23 pounds. I'm very frustrated when the scale doesn't move. It seems like we're going at the same pace so that makes me feel good. Good luck with you fill.

    Sherry

  11. Hi Trace,

I've lost 21 pounds and also have no restriction. I am very happy to be eating real food instead of puree but I'm hungry in between meals. Last night I had 2 pieces of pepperoni pizza. I can't wait for my fill on April 30th. It would be the week before but my surgeon is away. I think we'll both be doing better once we start with fills. You shouldn't feel guilty. At least it was a low fat sub not something horrible in fat and calories. I think I'm more scared of the fill than I was for surgery. Are you worried? Happy Easter, Sherry

GOOD PROTEINS that appeal to us.....

I love Syntrax Nectar Sweets in chocolate truffle. It's a powder. My favorite way to drink it is to mix it with a little cold skim milk (to get it dissolved with no lumps) and then add warm skim milk (from the microwave) and it makes a yummy hot chocolate drink with tons of protein. Last night I blended the powder with a little milk, ice and 2Tbsp peanut butter and it made a yummy shake. Right after surgery I liked Labrada Lean Body ready to drink in Strawberry and Vanilla. I ordered them both at vitaminshoppe.com but I bet GNC would have them. Good Luck, Sherry
  13. Hi Trace,

I went back to work so I'm only online on weekends now. I lost 16 lbs while I was doing the liquid diet and haven't lost anything since I started the pureed. I'm eating around 1000 calories a day. I'm a little frustrated but I wonder if it's our bodies reacting to the sudden calorie cut and weight loss and if it will pick up again soon. I hope to get a fill at my next appointment on April 30th but we'll see. I haven't been excercising so I know I need to work on that but I'm still feeling really tired. Are you tired? It's so nice to be able to chat with someone who's at the same stage and see we're going through the same things. Hopefully we'll be melting away soon.

    Hugs, Sherry

    Banded Yesterday - This hurts!

Trace, I have not had that problem but have not tried purees yet. I bet fruits would go right through you. I don't know how other stuff would do. I'm planning on eating ricotta with spaghetti sauce and a little mozzarela melted in the microwave, fat-free canned refried beans with low fat cheese and low fat sour cream, cottage cheese, scrambled eggs, egg salad and tuna made very soft with light mayo. (not all at the same time and all of these things are approved by my dietician) Can you tell I'm obsessed and ready to move on from liquids?:tongue_smilie: Sherry
  15. Hi thanks for the congrats. I don't know what I'd do without all the info from here and bariatriceating.com. I don't know how you did it on your own for 2 months.

  16. I'm allowed very runny grits, cream of wheat or oatmeal on my full liquid diet. I'm not supposed to have my puree's until 2 weeks and I won't see the doctor until one day after that. Today is day nine for me if we count our surgery day so not much longer. I'm glad your feeling better. :) Sherry

  17. Hey Trace,

We are a week out. How are you doing? I'm very emotional. I think it's the anesthesia but I'm crying over everything. I get one more week of liquids. I keep wanting to lick or chew my family's dinner. I can't wait to get to mushies. I visited work today to get my paycheck and showed everyone my belly(I think I am crazy) and I'm gonna work a half day tommorow. I go back officially on Tuesday. Hope you're doing well.

Protein shakes - GAG, YUCK, PUKE, EEEEKKKK

I went on Bariatriceating.com and ordered their protein sample pack. They give you a ton of samples to try so you don't spend money on what you don't like. Just wanted to let you all know in case it was helpful Sherry

    Cute Story

I had a very cute thing happen yesterday and wanted to share. When I went in for surgery we wanted my 3 children to be very careful with me when I got home so we explained to them that they would have to be careful. While we were at the hospital my 14 year old heard my 8 year old tell my 3 year old that we have to be gentle with mommy because she's gonna have "scratches" on her belly. My 3 year old has been very interested in looking at my "scratches" so I show her when she asks. Yesterday I noticed everytime my 3 year old hugged or even touched me she would pull up her shirt and look at her belly. I finally realized what she was doing and asked "Are you worried your going to get my "scratches" if you touch me?" She said yes. Poor little thing. Of course I explained she couldn't get my sratches and gave her a big hug. Gotta love kids. They're so cute.:lunch:

    Mushie advice???

I am not to the mushie phase yet but I can't wait. I've been researching and reading everything I can get my hands on. People on another board rec'd putting some ricotta in a dish then some tomato sauce and top with a little parmesan and mozzarella. Warm it in the microwave and you have lasagna with no noodles. I'm also looking forward to some refried beans with a little low fat cheese and maybe a dash of the liquid from salsa heated in the microwave. My dietician said I could make egg salad to eat and tuna if I used a lot of light mayo to make it smoother but follow what your Dr or dietician says. Good Luck.

Protein shakes - GAG, YUCK, PUKE, EEEEKKKK

You should try Syntrax Nectar Sweets in chocolate truffle. I like it cold and warm. To make it warm you have to mix it with a little cold milk or water and then add the warm milk or water to it. I learned some tricks from the ladies at bariatriceating.com. I also love Labrada RTD Lean Body in Vanilla and Strawberry. I purchased mine from vitaminshoppe.com because it was cheaper and they had free shipping at the time. Also try not to smell your protein drinks before you drink them. They all smell really nasty to me. Good luck to you. Sherry:smile:
