Thanks Heather :success1: you're close to her age, do your parents worry about you like I worry about my older children? She looks very unhealthy - remember pictures/video usually puts on 5-10 lbs. My main concern is I know she was smoking pot - supposed to give you munchies - does that mean you gain weight smoking it but if she smokes cigarettes [sigh] to reduce appetite would she then lose? lol What I am more concerned with is that she might be doing something else, drugs or whatever else and want to catch the signs of it if she is. Anyone else 5'8" 125lbs? Maybe at that height/weight that is normal - but I know by drs standards that is way too thin. I was so shocked when her measurements were not that much larger than our 5 year old! lol Maybe I have just been obese so long, that I can't imagine a 24" waist....

wow what an NSV - Grats Wheestin and keep up the good work - time for update pictures

We have something like them here - I was shocked to find out that it's against the law to do anything to them. I will have to ask my husband again what exactly they told him - when he went to USF that's when he found out about the law. That was years ago so it might have changed now. But just a thought about finding out if it is in your state also.

That's what Im talking about - I LOVE the fact that here in the US you get to go home the day of surgery if not soon after. I am not a good patient and cannot stand being in the hospital hehehe I had no problems with the 3 other surgeries and I went home the same day except for 1 one of them. [waiting patiently for June to get here for my appt]

Jack, that relieves me BUT makes the mother in me very cautious about what else it might be. Ive heard that pot gives you the muchies - I have no clue because I never even had a drink until I was 25. Maybe smoking cigarettes is causing the weightloss - and making her wonderfully scarred lungs (from chronic Asthma) even worse. And I am very open with my children thats how I know what is going on, whether I like it or not - they are adults and I have to listen and then be there for their decisions about what they want to do; as long as it's not in my home. I hope some of the advise I give about drugs and alcohol are stuck somewhere in their consciousness

I need some :help: and hope someone can lend me some advice. Please let me know if you have tried any appetite suppresents and if they work I went to my dr in Jan to start my WL journey. She put me on some diet pills that made me GAIN weight - I think Water weight since I felt majorly bloated after 2 weeks on these. I went back to her after deciding to get banded. She sent me to start doing pre-op testing to make sure there were no medical reasons why I gained weight. During the tests, she thought I had Type II diabetes, which was just borderline and she said would probably fix itself if I lost weight and exercised. She is all for me being banded BUT I am learning patience early young gwasshoper! I set my surgery up for April 21, 2006. Got all my ducks in a row, (or so I thought) and had to move my surgery back to May 5, 2006 due to a financing glitch I found out a few weeks ago about. I got some test results back and my PCP sent me to a urologist last week, he made me put my surgery on hold :think because tests from 2 & 3 years ago showed I have a mass on my right kidney. He's not sure what it is, could be a vessel crossing that was moved due to enlargement or tumor etc, he said he wasn't second guessing anyone until he did more testing. He set it up where on April 21st I am having a specialized CT done, then MRI next week. I go back to him on May 2nd for all the test results and to see where we go from here. I rescheduled my surgery for the 3rd time now, to May 26th, and have a feeling I am going to be one of those who cannot go forward with banding for awhile. I started a lifestyle change plan on March 31st and started exercising 4-5 times weekly on April 2nd along with high Protein, low carb eating. My problem is I STARVE!!!! lol I can eat something, usually not alot though and then be hungry in an hour. I do mean starve, not head hungry - having a major headache, the shakes, nausea and almost passing out starving. I want to take some appetite suppressents but have no clue where to start or what is effective since I haven't dieted or exercised in 3 or 4 years. TY all, I will ask my pcp when I go back and see if she can prescribe something else until I am banded :plane: Anyone know where I can buy Forelli brand clothing, also how true to size does this brand run? the tag says Made in Turkey RN 73960 I'm asking, because I have a pair of cargo shorts that I haven't been able to fit in for 3+ years until this morning and they are a size 20 :clap2: I know I am losing without being banded yet - I havent weighed in almost 2 weeks (had a few slip ups the past week lol) and this is my NSV for the day, ok and the fact I will look human again instead of "cousin it" after visiting my hair dresser today.

Today's NSV hooray! (long post)

hehehe Yoda my husband asked me the same thing the other day. Now if I can just get my band and get rid of my stomach :think unless I have a hysterectomy I will always look 6 mths pregnant with Adenomyosis, Endometriosis, Uterine Fibroids. I'm hoping losing weight and getting banded will help with these things and get my hormones back in check. -

I didn't realize just how much of a difference losing only 29 pounds could make, until I saw pictures side by side. Now the tough part - the other 100 pounds I have only had 1 or 2 pictures taken in then past 3 years, one is below labeled Jan 2006. I'm starting to get a shape back, rather than just being a blob!:success1: I have been trying on clothes that I haven't worn in 3+ years. The pants in the Jan 2006 picture are a 24W and shirt 22/24W. The shirt in the May 15, 2006 picture is a size 20/22 and was just way too big, I guess I shoud have pinned it at the back for pictures hehehe. I didn't have anything else nice to wear with my pants - St. John's Bay size 20! :wow2: I can finally see a difference in my neck OMGOSH I have a neck again and getting rid of tom turkey~ Picture 1) 289 ~ Jan 2006.......Picture 2) 274.5 ~ March 2006.......3) 260 ~ April 2006.......Picture 4) 260 ~ May 2006 -
WOOOHOO Grats Teresa - wowwowwow 5 miles total on Sunday:clap2: Oooo trying on clothes my all time hated thing (I finally did it too) I painted and redid the two little ones rooms this weekend so I did NOTHING! ugh Im so bad. But now I can't walk %$@@* I messed my pelvis up climbing up and down the ladder - so I have to lay down or sit with my feet up to relax it so I can go to Disney this wkd. Have fun in Orlando Kee we will be there too if I can walk by then hehehe

I was floored by something my oldest daughter said to me yesterday. She is 19 and has asked all kinds of questions about me getting banded. When I told her yesterday I had found another plan that will let me go to a new doctor and be banded she got this look on her face and I said what? She is scared to death for me to have surgery now! I was floored and asked her why? she said Connie at work was going to have the Lap Band done and another lady says DONT do it - she "knows" 2 people who had it done and died! I said WHAT - no way - she knows them personally? HOW is that possible? Are the facts straight when they tell the death rates and complications? I know that seems like a stupid question, and all deaths, complications I assume have to be reported. As with any surgery, there can be complications. I told her the gynecological surgery I had done last year I could have died and was a far more complicated one than this is. Plus I am considered healthy other than being obese and occassional sleep apnea. I went to Inamed but can't seem to find specific death rates from the surgery itself. It just says: Anyone have those facts or steer me in the right direction? I want to show her this information.
-
ahhh thanks for the update - glad it wasn't due to something the dr did or from the band not sure, but do the pre-op tests show defects like heart valve problems? Im struggling to remember what ones you get - and each dr is so different with things.
-
Thanks Fee - I think we all might seem a bit skeptical when someone "knows" of someone who has died from this procedure since the death rates are very low. (see my previous posts on this) As with the woman where my daughter works, I am very interested in what happend.

Puddin - Are you going to Disneyland or Disneyworld? We live in FL and go to Disneyworld every month with yearly passes we have. Next week we will be at MGM alot - we go to the annual Star Wars Weekend. Not sure where we are going the other 2 days - you going to the Magic Kingdom?

When did you start to see a change?
TheWomanWithin replied to sleepyjean's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
WOW Alison, that is great - 44 lbs in what amount of time? See if a person say 200 lbs lost the 29 lbs I have lost, people would say WOW you have lost weight haven't you? The 29 lbs on me is noticeable BUT not like it would be on someone smaller. If I had lost 50 lbs by now, someone might really really notice - so I think the more you have to lose, the more it takes for others to notice. I have not exercised in 3 years or so, when I started I thought, heck Ill do this just to feel better and see if it helps - that has shown a major change in clothing even though I lost more weight (probably water) before I started exercising. Now I feel miserable when I dont exercise:p Someone had a thread on fat vs muscle and you could see the muscle took so much less room than the fat - so you might weigh more or lose slower but exercise is a great tool also. -
This was from Extra TV: Chris Daughtry Gets 'Idol' Boot and Offer of a Lifetime http://extratv.warnerbros.com/v2/news/0506/11/1/text.html One of those opportunities, in fact, may have already come along. Members of the band Fuel appeared on Thursday's edition of Extra and told correspondent Terri Seymour ("Idol" judge Simon Cowell's girlfriend) they'd love to have Daughtry as their new singer.

:bump2: :bump: Any news if there is a new code for adjustments?

When did you start to see a change?
TheWomanWithin replied to sleepyjean's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
SleepyJean; I haven't lost gobs of weight, only 29 lbs (unbanded) but I can tell a big difference so far. I have lost almost 3 full pants sizes and have gone from a 44DD to a 40DD. Size 10 panties were almost too tight now I can wear 9 bikinis and they are too big - the size 8 I will be in about 5 pounds. From Jan - March I watched what I was eating then decided to go ahead with plans to be banded - I changed my eating habits and started exercising. Try and keep measurements and take weekly/bi-weekly pictures. You will start to see the changes little by little  Can't wait to join bandland :cheer: -
I finally found this on www.lapband.com: Under lap band in the news Dan Cohen, Inamed's vice president of global corporate and government affairs, says the mortality rate for Lap-Band procedures is now less than five-hundredths of a percent--comparable to the risk of dying from a hernia operation. ASBS estimates one in every 200 patients dies from gastric-bypass surgery. Though that includes patients who suffered from other health problems before the operation, "when you are counseling people about this kind of surgery, it is hard to hear that number," says Whyte, the pediatric surgeon. "Gastric bypass is a bigger surgery with potentially more hazardous complications, and the patient has to live with that surgery for a long time."

OMGOSH how did I miss that Chris had a contract already? I read something on MSNBC about putting him in an established group that had a "one name band", but it didnt hit me that it might be FUEL. I thought Creed or something like that - hmmm wonder how quick we can pre-order the new cd's? I went to order his one and it was sold out yesterday  btw...Dody - you have great taste  hehehe
-
Ooo that's a good idea taking her with me to my new appt. I let her go with me to my OB appts when she was younger and I was very open about pregnancy and the facts of life - so maybe that will help her now to go with me. I really wish there was an easy answer - BUT as we all know, there are no guarantees in life - live, love and laugh for today  I also told her to come here and read some - to show her how many people there were on here and how many people are doing great.
-
Oh Dody that is such wonderful news! Glad they will go ahead and get it done
-
Letha, I totally agree and that was a part of the conversation today. I said I want you to know I am miserable and not healthy at being 100 lbs overweight so I need something to help me lose and maintain weight. I went over again about the surgery. She looked at me when I was done and said Mom there is no way you need to lose 100 pounds. I cried :think and said actually when I started I needed to lose 125 pounds, hugged her and she went off to brunch with her b/f lol So either I am backing up what I originally told her with facts from the MFG and doctors, patients etc or she is just going to push it to the back of her mind and forget about it. Is it June yet? lol thats my next appt with the dr and my new MSA plan so I can get a surgery date

Wow what a motivation to walk walk walk. Does this account for weight or just a general rule? can I pick where I want that 7% to come off of? hehehe  Like you Mrs Sabre, I am not banded but on the "live like you are banded" tour as I like to call it. Im on my 4th attempt to be banded and one stumbling block after another came my way, so I took charge and am doing it alone until my next drs appt. I get alot of motivation from others here and would love to join - I need a kick every day just to remember what I'm striving for. I track everything through www.sparkpeople.com - counters, recipes and menus for all kinds of lifestyles. -
Thanks everyone  I asked my daughter if the woman knew what she was talking about? I did months and months of research and have folders of medical info from doctors and inamed about Lap-Band. I wanted her to talk to the woman who said this and get more info. Ask her specific questions like: who was the doctor, what facility, what DID they specifically die from, which surgery did she have RNY Or Lap Band, if they did die DURING the operation what complications, what happened after the surgery if they died after. I think this woman might have the wrong information on which procedure was done. Or she may not even know what the heck she is talking about - to know not 1 but 2 people to die from being banded is kind of fishy sounding to me. That might be a fault of mine - I tend to listen and then question everything a few times and research and need proof before believing anything. Being 19 she was scared and then a bit embarrassed because this older woman made such a huge deal of it. Now she doesn't want to talk to the woman about it again. I have had 3 major surgeries, had no problems whatsoever and took care of my 3 & 5 year olds within a day of surgery last year. I explained to my daughter that my other surgeries were far more complicated than this one would be. She has it in her head now from that conversation that something will go wrong. I figure if Im going to die, then so be it. I had sespis before and lived (thankfully) from it. I think she is thinking of back then when I was horribly sick and almost died. I just wanted to get some concrete info that she could read on the death rates - there are plenty of facts about complications - like 1% of all bands result in complications, but none about death due to being banded, so maybe there aren't enough to count? btw, where does [Lap Band surgery mortality rate.. 1 in 2500] come from? I am trying to find the mortality rate - inamed does not have that? can someone point me to a website or brochure? Thanks for all the help
