Any March 2021 Sleeve Patients?
Jnfinney replied to LoveSimcha's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@LoveSimcha I had that the first 3 days where the sight, smell, or even thought of food made me nauseous. It is better for me now where only certain things make me nauseous. For example, my sister ate a filet o fish in front of me and the smell of that thing had my stomach rolling. I can’t quite stomach protein shakes yet either, they’re way too sweet and nothing tastes the same to me. My doctor told me I could have skim milk, so I’ve been drinking a little of that everyday to at least get some calories in. -
Yes it is pretty close to where my stomach folds when I am sitting, so I wonder if that could be part of the discomfort. They didn't give me too many instructions about caring for it, so I have been babying it quite a bit, but that is good to know! I see we have the same surgery date... so it will be nice having someone on the same timeline as me! Thanks for sharing!

I would check for other brands or any other local grocery stores.

My surgeon did not set a date for me until I had met all the program requirements first.

The taste didn’t bother me at all, tasted like a healthier pizza crust. I baked mine by itself for a few minutes before adding sauce and toppings so it was extra crispy.

Yes @JustJazzy I completely understand!!! Feel better!!

Hello everyone. I had the gastric sleeve yesterday morning. I felt pretty darn good yesterday, but today I seem to be in a bit more pain in my abdomen. I have also had a few bouts of nausea, and honestly I’m starting to wonder if I made the right choice. I know I’m being dramatic and that this pain won’t last forever. How long was it before you guys started feeling better?

I’m not sure where you’re from, but I have found them both at my local Hy-Vee and Walmart. I am from Iowa.

Not sure about the almond flour, but I have tried this chicken pizza crust. It is delicious. https://www.heyketomama.com/best-low-carb-chicken-pizza-crust/ Its not EXACTLY the same as pizza crust, but if you're really wanting something similar, I've used low carb tortillas and store bought high protein crusts like this one:

Any teachers out there?

@PuraVida37 I am still pretty sore, but it’s just the bigger incision that hurts. This is the one I assume they pulled my excess stomach out of. I’ve stopped taking dilaudid for pain and am just on Tylenol. I hate the way it feels like my incision is “stretching” or could pop open if I move the wrong way. I’ve attached a pic for reference. I’ve been sleeping the days away waiting for the incision pain to subside. I’ve also noticed that a lot of things don’t taste the same to me. I no longer enjoy popsicles, jello, and protein shakes. I’ve been living off of water, pedialyte, and skim milk. I’m just praying for this stage to pass quickly. -
Thank you so much @Hopefulin2021!!!

I am about 6 hours post op and I feel physically hungry. Is this normal?

@InItoWinIt it is funny how places can be so different. For instance, I was not weighed on my surgery date. I was also no required to void a certain amount before I could go home. My requirements were pretty much that I was keeping liquid down on my own and that I was getting up to walk. Now that you mention the gas, the constant gurgling in my stomach is driving me crazy! It is non-stop! -

@Allie Still my surgeon never mentioned the results to me, but my clinic has an online system where you can check all diagnostic tests like lab work, X rays, etc. So I got a notification on my email that a new result was posted and it basically said there was nothing out of the ordinary with my liver. My surgeon said he wanted to do the liver biopsy because my blood tests were showing inflammation, however, he told me it was highly likely that my liver had inflammation due to being overweight so long and eating a high fat diet. I'm pretty sure my liver biopsy results were posted the next day. -
Hi all. I had surgery Monday 3/15. I’ve been quite a bit more sore than I had anticipated (not sure what the heck I was expecting 😂). But I do have a couple of questions. 1. I’ve noticed my eyesight gets blurry when I try reading things. For example, reading things off my phone my eyes go blurry and last night I was writing a couple checks out and had a heck of a time seeing what I was writing. I have been taking dilaudid at night before I go to bed and the internet says that temporary visual impairment is a side effect of dilaudid. Does anyone else have experience with this? 2. My dietician and surgeon said I could start drinking skim milk 3-4 days post op and wait about a week to resume protein drinks. I’ve basically been living off of water and pedialyte and the thought of drinking milk right now seems extremely unappealing, but I know my body needs the calories and protein. How did you all handle getting calories and protein in so quickly after surgery?

@Rosie_flips I’m not really sure you can prepare yourself for getting all your fluids in after surgery. I’ve honestly spent the past 4 days sleeping on and off and I sip water and pedialyte when I am awake. If you are wanting to practice, try taking the tiniest sips of your life, no matter how thirsty you are. I caused a bout of nausea when I drank too fast. The first day I was allowed to have 15 ml of water every 15 minutes. The second day I was allowed to have 30 ml of water every 10 minutes. @JustJazzy I had my surgery Monday and I too am sore as hell. Luckily I only had the sleeve and a liver biopsy, so I can imagine you are much more sore than I am. On day 2, I sat in my hospital room thinking what the hell did I do to myself? And I was almost regretting this. I can say that each day the pain subsides a tiny bit more and it is getting easier. I have been taking liquid Tylenol as frequently as I can and that seems to be helping as well. I’ve also had good luck with ice packs. -
5 mths post op- can’t eat More than 2 bites

I just had my sleeve done on 3/15. I’m so sorry your recovery isn’t going very well, however, my surgeon urged me to call him immediately if I display anything like vomiting and inability to keep liquids down because of dehydration . It sounds like you maybe need to talk to your surgeon. -

@LoveSimcha my abdomen/incisions are pretty sore still. I am also adjusting to drinking so slowly. Yesterday I had the WTF did I do to myself feeling, I’m better today but still pretty sore. I was actually hungry after I woke up from surgery, but now the sight, smell, and thought of food is enough to make me nauseous. I wouldn’t say I’ve had any cramping, but I have been really burpy and passing flatulence. -

@JustJazzy good luck & let us know how your recovery goes. I had my surgery Monday. @LoveSimcha when was your surgery? Are you having any pain or nausea? -
Thank you all for your replies, your perspectives are so helpful. I’ve mostly been taking Tylenol and I take the dilaudid I was prescribed just to help me sleep. I think I had high expectations that this surgery would be similar to my gallbladder removal, but this experience is much more intense.

I am post-op day 2. This is definitely harder than I was expecting. My abdomen hurts quite a bit, especially when sitting up. I’m hoping this subsided by the end of the week... -
Thank you all for your insight ❤️

My surgery is tomorrow. I have to be at the hospital at 6 am and of course we are expecting a winter storm tonight! Anyway, I’m kind of freaking out. I’m really scared about the spinal block I’m going to get. I’m also not looking forward to spending the night at the hospital. And.... I’m scared about all the life changes that are to come. Although, I know that I am making the right decision. I’m just starting to freak out.

Working out on the preop diet
Jnfinney replied to Lahela's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn’t set a weight loss goal for the pre op diet, nor did my surgeon. I lost around 13 pounds the whole 2 weeks, which I think is good because my starting weight was 228 lbs. -
Yes this is something my surgeon does with all his patients to help with recovery. So far I just feel really weak and tired and I have some pain in my chest, like in my diaphragm area.
