4 Weeks Post Op - Work Food
Jnfinney replied to TheMissPiggy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As soon as I was cleared for purees and then soft foods, I pretty much lived on tuna salad and chicken salad (actually, I still am). They have plenty of protein and I only get 20 minutes for lunch, so not having something I need to warm up saves me 5 minutes. -
Pre-op. Clear liquid diet cheated!!!
Jnfinney replied to HungryWildRose's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I was allowed to have milk both pre and post op, but I was required to drink skim so I drank Fairlife skim milk because it has more protein than regular milk. -
@tamirn your weight loss has really brought out your features! Beautiful! Everyone here looks great.

There's a whole post on here somewhere about abbreviations. HW = highest weight, SW = surgery weight, CW = current weight (I'm pretty sure).

Im down about 40 lbs in total and about 25 since surgery... feeling great but still learning how to eat differently!

Hello and happy Mother’s Day to all you mommas out there! I have a question about cottage cheese. My dietician has recommended the cheeses and dairy I eat are fat-free or low fat. This hasn’t really bothered me until I tried low fat cottage cheese. The texture was grainy and horrendous. I can’t do it. Does anyone still eat full fat cottage cheese? I love it and it’s a good source of protein, I just can’t do the low fat version 😖

Good luck! I struggled with protein right after surgery. I drank a lot of Fairlife skim milk and Pedialyte.

I don't do paleo, but I do really like this homemade protein pancake recipe: -1/2 cup quick oats -1/2 banana -1 egg (or 2 egg whites) -1 scoop of protein powder -1 tsp vanilla -1 tsp cinnamon Blend it all together to make a batter, then cook them like regular pancakes. You can substitute applesauce or pumpkin puree for the banana. You can add a little bit of milk or water if the batter is too thick (but I like mine thick).

Thanks everyone for the replies!

Yesterday I graduated with my Masters degree in education. The ceremony was held outside in the 50 degree weather 🥶🥶 then my boyfriend and I attended his cousins wedding. I really wanted a full body pic of my outfit, but this will do ☺️

Let me start this off by saying this: I made a mistake, learned from my mistake, I won't do it again.... so please don't judge or lecture me. OKAY, now. Last night I was exhausted and just wanted to go to bed, but I hadn't eaten supper yet. I heated up some leftover shrimp and veggies and I only heated up an appropriate amount for the stage I am at. I normally put my fork down for 2 minutes after every bite, but the food was going down fine and I was so stinking tired and I really slacked on putting my fork down like I should (huge mistake). About 10 minutes after I finished, I felt super sick and threw most of it up. I felt better after throwing it up. So, I won't be doing anything stupid like that again, but I am wondering: is this a common response for eating too quickly? Thanks for reading!

I felt better immediately after vomiting, but I agree that this response could help me in the long run. I have done really well with eating slowly, and I was just too impatient last night so I had to pay the price. Also, I haven’t eaten anything that has disagreed with my stomach. The only thing that makes me nauseous are protein shakes.

Hi all. I had a gastric sleeve this past Monday 3/15 and have had a pretty uneventful recovery. My biggest complaint is how sore my largest incision is. If I twist, get up, or bend wrong, it feels like my incision is tearing open. I do wear a girdle almost all the time and when I am not wearing it I am icing that incision. I have absolutely no pain in any of my other incisions. In fact, the others are starting to itch. I stopped taking the dilaudid that was prescribed to me because I didn’t like how it made me feel loopy all day long and I’ve been using Tylenol is frequently as is safe. I can’t even sleep in my bed because of this dang incision, I have better luck sleeping in a reclining chair. Can anyone share their experiences regarding this? I think I’ll feel 100 times better once this incision starts healing. I’m keeping liquids down pretty well and getting up and moving, but the nagging of this incision is driving me crazy. Thanks in advance

Do I have an eating disorder?
Jnfinney replied to ShoppGirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@ShoppGirl seriously, thank you for posting this. I've been experiencing the same thing. My psychiatrist referred me to a specific program that works with bariatric patients and disordered eating. I haven't gone yet because I am waiting for school to be done for the year that way I have more time to go to appointments. I am really anxious to get started with this because my head has been telling me to eat when I'm not hungry, kind of like before the surgery. With that being said, I'd like to hear where your journey takes you and maybe we can stay in touch. Best of luck! -
Not sure about the bruising, but for the drinking I think you are fine. Liquid doesn't stay in the stomach long, which would be why you are able to drink 8 oz of it. Some people might be struggling for other reasons like nausea or pain, but if you're able to get 8 oz in, that's great!

Pants vs. dress right after surgery
Jnfinney replied to lizonaplane's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I also wore pants just fine, as long as the band is elastic and not too tight. -
Congratulations!!! I definitely over packed for my surgery. I only ended up needing my phone charger and deodorant because the hospital gave me a warm rag to wash my face with and a toothbrush and toothpaste. A lot of people take the moisturizing mouth spray. I took it and never used it, so I really only needed 2 things.

I was cleared for all regular exercise at 6 weeks, but every surgeon is different. I would recommend contacting your team and seeing what their guidelines are.

My dietician told me, "you are more than a number."

I was shopping at my local grocery store yesterday and came across this yogurt. It seems to be a little thicker than dannon light & fit, but it tastes good. I was only able to find 3 flavors. Anybody else had this yogurt?

I was also super hungry post op and wanted to eat everything. Now that I'm back on regular food, I don't have that feeling and am content with my relationship with food.

I had a similar experience today! Our administration is doing a week of treats for teacher appreciation... today I went into the work room to check my mailbox and there were cupcakes, Swedish fish, and some really cute beach themed decorations. I looked at all the cute decorations for a minute, checked my mailbox, and went back to my room without even thinking twice about a cupcake.

Updating your stats would help some of us. If you are taller and/or weren't extremely overweight to begin with, then you won't lose super quickly. People who lose a lot are close to the 500-600 lb range to begin with. I started around 235 and 2 lbs a week for me is really good. Don't be discouraged. I know there are some veterans on this forum who lost slow and steadily for a long time and met/exceeded their goals. You'll get there 😊

Where exactly is your pain? I didn't have CO2 pain with my sleeve surgery, but I did with my gallbladder removal and the CO2 pain felt like aching between my shoulder blades and sometimes in my upper chest.
