@catwoman7 I just had my pre-op with my surgeon last week - I am fairly sure he said the fatality rate of the gastric sleeve is also 0.3%.

Congratulations!! My surgery is in a week, but I have to follow my liquid diet for 2 weeks after surgery keep us posted and good luck!

Any teachers out there?
Jnfinney replied to Jnfinney's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@PuraVida37 and @Cyt thanks for sharing your experiences. I have taken 2 weeks off so far and I will see how I’m feeling at my 1 week post op with my surgeon. Being a high school teacher, it is kind of nice because I can stay stationed in one area of my room and have my kids come to me for stuff or help me pass things out. I have been fibbing to some colleagues as well; I’ve told people I’m having a ulcer removed and they seem to believe it. -
Hello all. I started my liquid diet yesterday and I felt pretty good as far as not being hungry (I craved regular food, but my stomach told me it was full of liquid). I drank almost a gallon of water, had some jello and a few popsicles, 12 oz fruit juice, and exceeded my protein goal in protein shakes. However, toward the end of the day (early evening) I started getting a headache. I went to bed thinking that would help, but I woke up and my headache is even worse now. Is this normal? How long will it last? What can I do to help it? Thanks in advance!

Pre-op Diet and Headache
Jnfinney replied to Jnfinney's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@Lahela my headache has gone, and I have a little bit of head hunger. However, that’s the least of my worries. I definitely thought fighting off head hunger would be the worst, but I am so exhausted. I really can’t remember the last time I was this tired. All I want to do is sleep. I’m starting to struggle with protein drinks - I get nauseous drinking them, probably because I’m so sick of them. My surgery is a week from Monday and I lost 5 pounds since this past Monday. I hope everything gets better for you as well! -
Random Pre-op Questions

I should note that I've never had a drug problem, but all the warnings on these medications always scare me a bit! -
Protein drink recommendations

I've had good luck with the Fairlife Core Power and Fairlife Nutrition Plan shakes. I also really like the Dymatize and Optimum Nutrition protein powders. -
Pre op liquid diet headaches

I just started my liquid diet and am feeling the same way. I'm exhausted, foggy, and have the worst headache that won't go away. -
Pre-op Diet and Headache
Jnfinney replied to Jnfinney's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@Creekimp13 Yeah I'm allowed to have regular fruit juice, popsicles, and jell-o. I generally choose sugar free jell-o and popsicles, but I think the fruit juice gives me a tiny boost that I need and I'm not normally a juice drinker. I am feeling really foggy and fatigued, but I'm only on day 2, so I have hopes it will get better. @newyorklady20 I am super fatigued and my head is pounding! But knowing that it should go away is helpful. I feel like I've been run over by a truck and haven't slept in days... that is crazy considering I've been on liquids 1.5 days! I am looking forward to some "euphoria" feelings haha. Also, I am not allowed to take ibuprofen anymore per my surgeon's orders - no ibuprofen 2 weeks before surgery. -
Pre-op Diet and Headache

It’s possible, but I don’t always drink caffeine daily. -
Not to be weird, but you look FREAKING AMAZING!! You might be mourning the loss of your girls, but you look stunning in that dress and I don't feel that your girls are that small, honestly.

Goal weight achieved, but now, how do I eat healthy? Need tips please!
Jnfinney replied to CrowLuv's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I have not experienced this as I am still pre-surgery. However, I have heard people talk about a "pouch reset" diet when they've gained weight. I know you haven't gained, but maybe this will help you get back into your good habits. https://store.bariatricpal.com/pages/pouch-reset-plan -
Hello! I need some suggestions for the pre-op liquid diet that are more on the savory side. I am allowed to have fruit and vegetable juice, but are there any soups that you guys were able to have for meals?
-
I’m allowed to eat watered down cream of wheat on my purée stage. Can you purée the oatmeal?

Hoping to get rid of this double chin before our next family pictures! Surgery is March 15th.

This Pre-op diet is a b$@!:
Jnfinney replied to Hopefulin2021's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeons pre-op diet only allows 1,000 calories a day of liquid only, so I think 650-700 would be okay. -
Protein supplement struggle
Jnfinney replied to Cherié H's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had never heard of this before so I looked up their website. They’re currently offering a free trial package of single servings. Just though I’d let anyone know who is wanting to try it out. You might have to pay shipping though, I didn’t check on that. 😊 -
@Staggs I’m not 100% sure on that, but I know they do offer coaching programs that include customized nutrition. So my assumption is that they would be able to work around the needs of a bariatric patient as well.

I have seen other posts about people who say they don't know when they are "full" on the liquid diet post-op. If you feel you are experiencing hunger, is it possible it is just "head hunger"?

I am not very good with knowing what types of exercises to do or how many reps and sets, so I discovered Melissa Le Man and her boyfriend Brandon Michael, who are both professionals in the world of weight lifting and bodybuilding. They both offer workout programs and personalized nutrition programs. The cost will vary depending on what you want. I paid $67 for a one time program that never expires from Melissa Le Man. I know you can pay more for more customized programs. They both offer at home workout programs and programs for at the gym that are downloaded on your phone or tablet. I loved my program from Melissa Le Man, so I highly recommend it! https://www.melissaleman.com https://www.brandonmichaelfit.com

Oh my gosh you guys are allowed to have solid food on your pre-op?! I start mine March 1st and I am not allowed to have any solid foods, so I am testing out as many liquid soups as I can before then to make sure I like them!! -
I also was a big ibuprofen user. I am still pre-op, but am trying to break that habit. Are you allowed to take Tylenol or acetaminophen? Those are pain relievers. Some other things that are not medication that have helped me have been using a heating pad on my abdomen, taking a hot bath, exercising (sounds counterintuitive, but it did work for me), and drinking herbal tea. Feel better soon!

Protein supplement struggle
Jnfinney replied to Cherié H's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you using dry powders only? I really enjoy Fairlife Core Power and Fairlife Nutrition Plan drinks. They might be something to try out. As far as powders, I have had good luck with Optimum Nutrition and Dymatize ISO 100. There are also fruity protein waters. I've tried the premixed ones (Protein2o) and I've purchased a powder that mixes like juice from myprotein.com. One last thing - Unjury makes some savory flavors of protein powder like a chicken soup flavor. I hope these suggestions help! -

I stumbled upon this post after searching "CrossFit." I have been seriously considering trying out a CrossFit gym about 30 minutes away from me after I have surgery and am cleared by my surgeon. I already work out consistently, but I feel that CrossFit will really push my limits and take my workouts to another level. How many days a week do you do CrossFit? Do you have any advice for someone looking to try out CrossFit? -
Awesome!!! My sleeve is scheduled for March 15th. My highest weight is 235 and I am 27. Do you have to do a 2 week pre op liquid diet? We can get through it together!
