    BLT's????

All though some licks are good, when I make muffins for my family I lick the bowl so I have a taste. Then I do not have the need to eat the muffins.

Chewing the Fat About the Holidays

This Thanksgiving my college daughter age 20 & her friend are cooking dinner, something they both wanted to do as long as I supervise. This works for me I wont have to be in the kitchen all day tasting. I will sit down to my first Thanksgiving meal that I have not prepared in 23 years, have my normal size portions and enjoy my family.
  3. Hi, I am from Roanoke Va. I was banded on Sept 18th. So far everything is going well. I get my fiorst fill on Nov. 12th. I am here if you have any questions.
  4. Nat, I had surgery on a Thursday, went back to work for 2 half days Tues. & Wed the next week. Took off Thurs. & Fri. (Dr. appts). I was back to work full time 11 days later in an office. I was a little tired at the end of the day the first week back but I made it ok. While off the first week I made homemade chicken noodle soup, homemade beef vegatable soup, fed the family & I got homemade broth (much better than canned). 1 1/2 months later I am working both my full time job & my parttime job, probably 55 hrs. per week. No pain at all, love my band!!! First fill Nov. 12th. Good luck on your surgery.

    1st Fill

How did your fill go??? I had surgery on Sept. 18th. My first fill is scheduled for Nov. 12th. So far I have lost 16 lbs. I am very excited but also very scared about my first fill. I feel this is when our real journey will start with the band. I know a lot of people who have had bypass (my support group) more with that type of surgery than with lap band, so not to many people to compare stories with. Good luck, and may the band be with you! Ha-Ha

    Why were YOU overweight?

I was always of normal weight (married at 135lbs age 25) Had three children with 1st pregnacy became diabetic controlled with diet. Lost all pregancy weight with all three children. At age 40 I became type 2 diabetic. After 5 years of trying to control my sugar wih diet and exercise, I was put on meds, with each new med I was put on to control my sugar I would gain 10lbs give or take a few lbs. After 5 years and 60 lbs of weight gain I decided to get my life back and my sugar under control. I am still working on control of my sugar but, I know in time all will be right in my world. I will live to to granchildren someday. Good luck to everyone.
  7. I have a support group that meets once a month. We are not charged for this meeting. We have a lesson of some point the first 15 or 20 minutes, then we open up to discussion between people at the meeting, we start out with questions from people who just had surgery or are having surgery. The one thing I do not like about this support group is most people have had gastic by-pass. This week we do have a speaker who had lapband surgery. I get alot out of these meeting speaking with people who are going through the same thing as I am. We have a clothes exchange, I am giving someone I met through these support meetings the 1st set of clothing I am too small for. All in all a very positive experience in Roanoke Va.

    Diabetes and Lap Band

I too had great sugar control when on the liquid phase, morning readings under 100. my Dr. cut my lantis from 40 units to 20 units. I was told to increase my insulin 2 units every 3 days until my sugar is better. I am at 34 units at bed time and ready to increase it another 2 units tonight. Started on mushie food and sugar started to rise. I can not figure out why my sugar is rising so much. I have lost about 15 pounds and down from a size 20 to 16. I keep thinking soon my sugar will be better. I know this is a battle that will be had to beat, but worth it in the long run.

    Anyone NOT LOSE their hair?

I am 1 month pst op and I don't think I have lost any hair. I do get my 60-70 grams a protein in each day, sometimes more. The protein powders are wonderful. I add them to SF pudding, my decaf in the morning and any pureed fruit. I think that is what is helping me. Good luck on your surgery.
  10. Hi I have my surgey date and I'm so excited!!!! I have been diabetic for 10 years with each new year meds increased and so has my weight. I hope to lose 60 pds. and get off medication. I am so glad I found this site I feel we have problems others do not. I started my pre op diet today, 2 slim fast shakes & a lean cusine for dinner. Today was pretty hard I tried to keep busy to keep my mind off of food. It worked until 4:00, I had to eat so I had a sliced tomato & a handful of fiber one cereal. My Dr. ordered me to start my pre op diet thisThursday. I started early. So I guess my small cheat is ok. Better luck tomorrow. Back to work and I have a support meeting tomorrow night. Anyone out there from Roanoke Va??

    bandster on Sept. 18

I hope all went well with surgery today. I am still having some sugar issues but seeing some resuts. I am down about 12 lbs. since Sept 18th. Down at least 1 pants size, slow but steady. Good luck in your journey and recovery.
  12. I have lost 10 lbs. I am alowed my first fill in a month. Good luck to all on their journeys.
  13. I bought the protein powder at Wal Mart around $12.00 Body Fortress Super Advanced Whey Protein. They also have vanilla I will buy the next time I am in Wal Mart.
  14. The whey protein is wonderful. I mix the choc. whey in with my decaf in the morning, blend and YUM. The EAS protein shakes have 17 g of protein per shake. When you get on the mushie phase add the vanilla whey to SF pudding and your fruit (applesause) taste pretty good. Something else that helps is drink K20 5 grams of protein per drink.
  15. I only needed to lose 60 lbs. I think my BMI is 35. I am diabetic ,I think that helps the insurance say yes. I was banded on the 18th of Sept. One week later Lantis cut in half & no more pills.
  16. Brettalyn, I too was on Byetta but my stomach could not handle the meds. I think that dose of meds was my last straw. High hopes and yet again failure. I know the band will work, once the weight comes off, it will stay off. New me by summer.

    So many questions -

I was banded on the 18th Thurs. My dr. kept me overnight (called a 23 hr stay). I went back to work for 1/2 day on Tues & Wed. Had a dr appt. Thurs did not go to work, but could of, cleaned dining room. Fri. I took off from work once again ,could of worked if needed. The only issue I had was the gas pain I am having in my left shoulder. I got up and walked around, help some. I was ready to leave @12:00 both days. Tip bring a pillow to sneeze into.
  19. Hi I too am diabetic. Weight 225 BMI 35, I had surgery on Sept. 18th. 1st dr visit lost 7 lbs and my fasting sugars are finally starting to lower. My morning fast has been under 100 (usally in the 220-250 range) I know I am healing right now so I have to take it easy, but I have more engery. I am very positive about my desicion.
  20. Great site, I had surgery on the 18th. I have been home recouping all by myself me & the dog & cat. No one to see me eat something I am not supposed to be eating. I keep thinking of the new me. You really have to learn to say no to yourself, what you want now might stop you from having what you need later. We have to remember what size our stomachs' are now, not how much we ate before surgery. I know I don't plan on stretching my new stomach. Good luck
  21. Hi, I was banded on Sept 18, had my first Dr. visit yesterday was very pleased with myself. I am diabetic, I lost 7 pds & my night time insulin was cut in half. I read your post and like your way of thinking. It really is all in our minds. If we have what we want now, we will not be able to have what we need later. So far my journey has not been too bad. A great way to get 25g. of protein first thing in the am. I make a cup of decaf, add a scoop of chocolate whey powder blend,I add about a tablespoon of milk. YUM just like a latte. Good luck all you September Bansters.

    1 week post-op

I had surgery on 9/18 doing great so far. Something I did this past week was make homemade chicken noodle soup. I had chicken broth from the soup, and my family had chicken soup stew (because I ate most of the broth) Worked for both meals, SO MUCH BETTER than the can stuff. I plan on making Beef vegetable soup with extra broth and having it next. There are ways we can still take care of the family and take care of us too. Good luck all you September Bandsters, we are on our way to new healthy us'.
  23. Good luck all you September bansters. I had my surgery on Sept. 18th. So far so good.

    Lounge chair??

I went onto the internet and looked up wedge pillow. There are quite a few there. You can spend as much as you like. I bought one for 19.99 plus shipping and handling. Worked great for me. Good luck on your surgery. I had mine on Sept.18th. I am healing nicely. The port site hurts some.
  25. I had surgery on Sept. 18th. Had a BM in the hospital but nothing since. I stopped taking the pain meds & I am not only taking children's strength tynenol, I was told that the codine makes you constipated. I also read that milk of magnesia helps. The pain is pretty bad all I want to do is Poop. Godd luck to all you new banders.
