    Congratulations in your surgery date! Once I got my initial appointment I was scheduled within 2 weeks. I didn't have to go on a preop diet before my surgery on July 15th with Dr. Simpson and had my first follow up. Usually doctors seem to put people with a BMI of 40 or over on a preop diet. Mine was around 36.6. So far I've lost around 9-11 pounds in the past couple of weeks. I've been very lucky that right off the bat I felt restricted and had to make sure I got enough calories or my blood sugar would drop too low (I'm also a diabetic). I use a nutritional program to track what I'm eating and exercising. I've already eaten solid foods for the past 5 days and so far have done pretty good. I agree with bigdog011367 about not feeling restricted. I had to really pay attention to my body and follow the eating recommendations (eat small bites slowly with no distractions and pay attention to the first feelings of fullness). I've also found the support from the staff and the online community invaluable. Good luck on your lap band journey.
  5. I was banded on July 15 and so far have lost 11 pounds to date. Right after I was banded it was hard for me to get enough calories (only around 300-500/day). I did get my protein in first and enough water which really helped. I'm diabetic so if I don't consume enough calories throughout the day,my blood sugar goes low, even when I adjust and decrease my meds. Since then I've added solid foods and can usually eat only 800-1100 calories/day. I use a nutritional program to track the calories, nutritional makeup of the foods I eat,and my exercise. I try to eat less than 1200 which is the recommendation from my nutritionist, however I find it hard to consume that much. Right now 1000 calories seems to be a good compromise. I don't feel so tired, seem to get enough nutrition in, and yet am losing around 1/4-1/2 pounds per day. My docotor didn't seem to be concerned with how many calories I'm taking in and more concerned with how I was handling food/fluid intake. Check with your doctor or nutritionist to see what they prefer. It sounds like you are doing the right things so far. Good luck with your lap band journey.
  6. I'm also getting banded on the 15th and am excited to begin my weight loss journey. I've had reservations in the past but did a lot of research on my doctor. I feel very comfortable and confident with my choice. There are always risks to surgery but I have great family, social and spiritual support. Good luck to you both and to everyone getting banded.

    I am in the Phoenix area and I am wondering why you chose Dr Simpson, over other DR's. Just trying to get some input before I choose a dr thanks!

    I'm one week out until banding. I find I am also eating food that I think I won't be eating ever again. Thank goodness I have not gained any weight. I started 2 weeks ago adding extra Protein to my diet (mostly in the form of low carb high protein shakes). It sounds like we all are going through the dreaded I'll never be able to eat that food again phase. I just try not to beat myself up too much and limit the amount I have. I had my favorite mac and cheese yesterday, but only ate 1/2 cup worth of it. My measuring cups and my scale are becoming my very best friends since portions are my main problem. I so excited to get banded and have a lot of confidence in my surgeon, Dr. Simpson in Phoenix. Good luck to all on the weight loss journey. Jane
