Hi all: I’m new here and wanted to join to find support and information on others’ experiences. I am five days out from surgery and I’m struggling with vomiting. Sorry to be gross, but I’m trying so hard to get my fluids down because I am deathly afraid I will get dehydrated. I am so thirsty- I wish I could chug an entire bottle of water but obviously i cannot do that. I have tried sipping water with a spoon, sucking on ice chips- but every day I find myself extremely nauseous in the evening to the point where I throw up. Anyone have a similar experience? Will this subside or do I need to call the doc?

Hi all- Wondering if anyone has tried to help along their healing and inflammation with cryotherapy sessions. I know it’s unconventional, but I have tried cryotherapy for back pain and it really helped. It supposedly takes care of inflammation, so since my doc says the big problem right after surgery is swelling, I thought i would look into it. Anyone have any experience with it? I welcome your thoughts!

Revision due to GERD
Lola2122 replied to Nurse Crystal's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi there - I had the same issue and am just coming off the revision from sleeve (11/2017), which we did due to the fact that I had terrible GERD. I had my surgery on 1/12/2021, and I’m struggling with nausea. My physician says I have to figure out my new anatomy and not drink too fast, but I’m so crazy thirsty its so hard not to constantly obsess about my next sip of water. I pray every day that my swelling goes down and my body will allow me to intake these fluids, however it’s been rough. I’m interested to watch your journey, as it seems similar to mine. -
Just Had Bypass This Morning, Need Advice
Lola2122 replied to Aahlyia's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Don’t worry- you’re on the road to your new journey and it is a process. I am just six days out from my surgery so lets keep in touch. The walking not only helps alleviate the potential of blood clots, but also helps the anesthesia gas move through your body quicker. If it doesn’t move out fast, it hurts like hell, so you really do WANT to take the walks. Even if its just a walk up and down the hospital corridor, just power through. I am still nauseous and vomiting. I called my doc and I’m going in for an IV drip tomorrow, and I can’t wait. I have not been able to get even a fraction of the liquid down, so I’m extremely lethargic and have NO energy. I’m hoping the IV will help. You’re just one day out— not even one day. JUst keep communicating how you’re feeling, use this forum to gain support and know that there are so many people who have come through this with success. You got this! Try not to worry, just focus on how great you’re going to feel once you heal. Take care! :) -
Update- thank you so much for all the suggestions. The popcicles were a GREAT suggestion. I was sooo thirsty, and the popcicles definitely quenched my thirst. I really think that I need to figure out how much liquid I can take in at once. This has beeen the learning curve for me. Yesterday was a tough day- hoping today will be better. I M calling the doc today so maybe i can come in for IV fluids. Glad I found you all!

HI - thanks so much for your insights. I feel like as long as I’m peeing, I’m not dehydrated, right? I haven’t even gotten to the point where I’m trying protein shakes or puréed food, since I’m only five days post surgery. I’m going to try the tea you suggested, and maybe popcicles. I’ll call the office tomorrow and see what she says. Thanks!
