3 years POST OP bypass, had gallbladder removed and still in pain
LAJOSPA replied to KarenLR75's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I too am about 2.5 years out from my sleeve surgery, and a search brought me to this thread. For the past month or two, not every time, but a couple of times while in the middle of a Pilates session, I've gotten a sharp pain about 2 inches above and to the right of my belly button. It feels like a strained muscle, and its sharp enough to take my breath away. Usually, If I give the pain a few seconds, it subsides. The night before last, I was sitting up in my bed, and turned at the waist (not awkwardly or forcefully enough to pull a muscle) and it sent such a sharp pain shooting through that area that it shot me out of bed and actually pulsated for a minute or two. Now, I still have a dull, aching pain. I WebMD'd it, and all I could find were gall bladder, pancreas, or hernia. From what I understand about gall bladder pain, its unbearable. This isn't unbearable, just uncomfortable. Just curious as to if your symptoms sounded similar to this or if anyone might have an idea as to whether or not it could be surgery related? Unfortunately, my surgeon had some personal problems and has been on hiatus a few months, and his nurse just quit, so I am not even sure who to reach out to. Thanks for any input! -
I had Gastric Sleeve surgery in January of 2021. In the 18 or so months since, I have regained about 10 pounds, even though I try to make healthy choices and exercise daily. In an effort to get this under control before it's too late, I have tried a variety of prescription medications to help curb my appetite. Initially, I used Wegovy, and it was a miracle drug, but with the side effects and the cost after the 6-month trial period, I felt it was unrealistic to continue. Then I tried Tomiramate, with terrible side effects. Finally, I began taking Phentermine, which has no effects whatsoever on my appetite. I have now begun to take Plenity, but I am skeptical that it will be successful. First, it is taken before meals in order to fill the stomach so that you can't eat as much. I feel that if eating large meals were my problem, the sleeve is already handling that; however, that is not my problem. My problem is that I am literally hungry all the time. It must be my stage of life (I'm 54). I am not really a nervous eater, nor do I really use food for psychological reasons. I am always at the mercy of my hormones. Like I said, I am pretty much hungry all the time, but when I have fluctuations in my sugar levels, I am ravenous. I have been diagnosed as "glucose intolerant" but I am not diabetic. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to handle this? I have tried all the dietician's recommendations (cutting back on carbs, packing on protein, staying hydrated, exercise) but nothing seems to help. I was put on Plenity as a last ditch effort, but it hasn't helped so far. I was told to give it a month, because people seem to jump ship with Plenity before it has been given a chance to work (though, I am not sure what's the point of giving it time as I would think this should work immediately). Has anyone else tried Plenity? If I give it time, will I get some sort of impact? Have any of you conquered this problem, and what did you do?

I am 3.5 weeks out from a band to sleeve revision, and things have been going pretty typically up until now. I had GERD prior to this surgery, a fact I made abundantly clear to my surgeon, but at no time was I apprised that the sleeve would make it worse. And by worse, I mean that I cannot eat much of anything without it causing vomiting, and when my stomach is empty, it burns severely. I’m afraid I’ll be forced to eat Cream of Chicken soup for the rest of my life, because it’s all I can tolerate. The vitamins, proteins...everything that’s supposed to help with energy, is intolerable. I’m miserable, because I’m in agony, so not only does it seem that I have changed my entire lifestyle, but now I’m sick and have no energy all the time. There is no joy at all in the weight loss. I take 2 Prilosecs per day, and a handful of Tums, but there’s no relief. When I call the nurse at my surgeon’s office, it takes a day for her to get back to me, with no helpful suggestions. I am miserable and almost dysfunctional. Has anyone else had this dyspepsia this severe? What did you do?
