I had my gastric sleeve surgery on December 29, 2020. I had been consistently losing weight until about 3 months ago. I have been at a 3 month stall and even gained about 3 pounds. I saw my surgeon yesterday and was a bit ashamed because I had gained. It was totally my own fault. I had stopped drinking my protein shakes and my appetite seemed to ha e picked up as well. I had began to eat more foods and I believe that has had a huge impact. From there, I began some unhealthy snacking and craving foods that I used to eat and gave in to the temptation. I had been stressed from life and work. Been having back spasms and unmotivated to workout. Today, I will begin my protein shakes again and get up and move!! I changed my life by getting surgery to lose the weight and I must regain my motivation back! With the new way of life due to the pandemic, it has been hard to get out as much. I am determined to break this horrible cycle I have fell into, I can do this and so can you!!! Sent from my SM-G998U1 using BariatricPal mobile app

Premier protein were my go to. I like the chocolate flavor since it tastes like chocolate milk. Today, I will be restarting my protein shakes, but will try adding fruits and spinach to them to change it up and add as a meal replacement. I am 9 months post op gastric sleeve. Hi, I have heard it can potentially be covered under medical insurance if it is determined to be a medical necessity. Talk to your surgeon about the options to have it covered. Sent from my SM-G998U1 using BariatricPal mobile app

Hives? Possible food allergies?

I broke out in hives around 4months post op. I read that elevated B12 levels can cause it. I had been taking B12 supplements, then switched to the injection. I believe it was too soon to get an injection since I had been recently taking the pill form. My surgeon checked my levels and sure enough, my B12 levels were extremely high. My doctor advised me to stop the injection until we do more labs in a few months. It worked and my levels came down to a normal level - no more hives!! I do feel better being on pureed. Seems like the pain isn't as bad and I am not miserably hungry with the stomach growls. Hopefully soon, you will transition yo pureed and feel more satisfied. Also, you will receive more nutrients that way too. I was also concerned about malnourishment and dehydration. My hiatal hernia repair is doing great...no more heartburn. Also, try walking around as you sip...the gravity may help it to flow downward rather than sitting in one place. When you start the pureed diet, you will not feel as hungry all the time. Just go slow so that you don't over do it like I did with my food yesterday. I didn't eat too much portions, only 2- 3 ounces at a time, but it filled me fast. I ate refried beans and guacamole with some cheese. I guess that was a bit thicker and caused some quicker fullness...I am learning...if it isn't thinner meal...then eat it really really slow. I also bought some baby food items...like the veggies and fruits to have some variety and less work for me to do daily. Just trying to give you some ideas because you will be on pureed foods soon!! Keep me posted.

I am so glad I am not alone. I am so sorry you are having pain. I am trying to be patient and waiting for the moment where I feel this was worth it. I know that day will come and hopefully very soon for us both!! I just wish it didn't hurt so bad when I eat or drink. Sometimes I don't know the sip I just took will hurt until it goes down - then the squeezing peristaltic pain begins. I have to learn my new stomach and that will help as well. I felt like I over ate yesterday too...when I feel that I immediately begin walking to get that feeling under control. I am finding little tips n tricks to get through this phase. Oh...when I feel that big cramp/spasm after I swallow, I immediately take a deep breath and exhale and the pain lessens..trying to breath through it like labor contractions smh. I am optimistic - this will get better. My doctor was ok with me stopping my vitamins and protein until the heaviness subsided. I was encouraged to focus on water with zero sugar electrolytes like propel in it or zero sugar Gatorade so that I don't get dehydrated. The clear protein powder helped too. I order it from Amazon. It is lighter on my stomach than the protein shakes and the protein clear water...I hope this info helps you in some way.

I had my surgery on December 29, 2020. I am slowly feeling better. I am on pureed diet now. I am handling that much better than the full liquids. BUT....I get the pain and contraction feelings when I eat or drink anything. It feels like my sleeve is too tight or something. My doctor and dietician says it will get better. I sure hope so because that spasm/cramping feeling is straight awful and makes me dread eating and drinking. I am not able to take in 64 ounces or enough protein. I have began using a clear protein powder with no taste so that I can TRY to reach the goal...I am struggling big time with water/fluids and protein. Yesterday, I was so thirsty and took several gulps and just dealt with the pain because I needed the water so badly. Anyone else experiencing any of this?

Yes and you have to walk. I walk throughout the day to ensure I walk for a total of 30 mins. I try not to over do anything...this has been working well for me. -

I received my gastric sleeve on 12/29. I experienced that too. It was bad gas and possible constipation from pain meds and drinking the protein shakes. I had to take 2 gas x and drink warm water with miralax. Soon I was better. The pain and fullness had me in tears. I thought it was a blood clot or heart attack. Until the pain subsided, I was gonna go to the ER. I DID NOT WANT TO DEAL WITH THE WHOLE COVID-19 ISSUES THERE. Thankfully, I felt better within an hour. I had to back off all my vitamins and protein until I got this under control. Now I am on pureed per my doctor. I will pick back up on my Vitamins next week and see how it goes. I am now using protein powder and adding it to everything I can. It has no taste and has been working better than the heavy shakes. You have to try what works until you can tolerate all the new changes our body has to endure. I also had a hiatal hernia repair at the same time. Today, I am feeling so much better. I have to pace myself and not take big gulps of anything at all.
