Pkump replied to Castrad01's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
No, but I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism 28 years ago and always gone to my general practitioner. This is the first time I have visited a specialist. -
Hypothyroidism and gastric bypass surgery
Pkump replied to Castrad01's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I went to an Endocrinologist today and learned a lot. I have been taking my medicines at the wrong time which makes them work much less effectively. And she suggested I do more cardio and less weights. Plus I need to eat more real food, and less processed food. I hope it works. -

I just got a package delivered with a bunch of chips, jerkey and gummies from you. The quality of items you sell are so much better than any I have tried before. You have my business! -

Tips on starting my regular diet stage
Pkump replied to mischa23's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Your tastes may have changed. Keep notes on what you eat, and what you like, and don’t like. Try bariatric recipes, I have found some yummy ones. A lot of are nervous when we start out. You will do great! -
Tips on starting my regular diet stage
Pkump replied to mischa23's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I stick to the approved foods on the list I got from my Dr. I stay away from all starches, sweets, foods high in carbs etc. we are changing our diets for the rest of our lives, so in my opinion, it is best to eat clean and void temptation. -
Keep up the walking, it will get easier and easier. And it is so good for you.

I m about 8 weeks out also and down 35. Been hitting the gym hard, mostly weights. Still learning what my pouch can tolerate, sometimes the hard way. I found some protein chips that I eat when I crave something from my old life. Tasty Bites has something called Party Mix that tastes like Chex mix. It is the best brand I have tried so far. Quest products are nasty, at least I think so.

Same thing happened to me. I got two insulin shots. Also, I was using my CPAP and my oxygen dropped below 90 so they put me on oxygen. And my blood pressure went up. You will go back to normal. I think it is the shock of surgery on your body.

Friend saw me for the first time in 3 months...
Pkump replied to BayouTiger's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
These are not friends, unfortunately you are finding out the hard way. They must be insecure because they are unable to compliment you for your weight loss and are condemning you to failure. Don’t let them hurt your feelings, they are not worth it. Tell them that just because they aren’t strong enough to stick with something doesn’t mean you are going to be a failure. And let them know you will be happy to pass along the name of your surgeon when they are ready. -
Thanks Katja. I will try that.

I don’t hit the gym everyday, probably 4 times a week. But when I go I hit it hard.

Food tastes lousy to me too. Maybe not all of it but most of it. I had surgery Feb 2, 2021 and I am having an issue with meat. I can only have a few tiny bites and it gets suck very easily. I chew the heck out of it. It is frustrating.

I love fresh green beans.
-
I use the weight machines and free weights. I try to mix push and pull so. End it up with a little cardio. I love it.
-
that is so sad about beans and avocado. I tried beans by themselves and could not eat them. I was going to try more with avocado and cheese, but now I am not sure. Also my taste buds have changed so much I don’t know what I like anymore. I have been craving veggies, but have to get that protein. A lot of things are getting stuck so I may become the mushy food queen.

I am 5 weeks out and itching to get back to weight training. Right now I am walking around the track, riding the bike, using the treadmill at increased inclines, using the ecliptic machine, and I use the rower and arm cycle machine. I M still fatigued but working out helps me deal with stress and I sure sleep well.
-
I also stalled a few days after surgery. Lasted about 1 1/2 weeks. I am a month out and lost 26 lbs. The Dr said I am a slow loser.

HEAVY Weightlifting is a GAME CHANGER Ladies!!! Pics included!

I love lifting weights and as soon as I am released to do more exercise plan on hitting them again. I had bypass Feb 2 so am walking and riding the bike right now but getting antsy. -

These type of people just make me mad. And I don’t keep my mouth shut so I give it back just as good or better. It just strengthens my resolve when I hear how somebody had the surgery and gained the weight back. I also ask those people why they are not telling me about those folks who were successful and kept the weight off. Grrrrr -
I am 62 and just had bypass surgery Feb 2. I am a stickler for following the Dr’s orders and am doing quite well. I can only walk for 20 minutes because I am still heavy, but I add in 35 minutes on the bike. My biggest mistake is taking bites that are to big but my gut is quick to remind me. I am eating healthy and feel great.

Where do you get your protein goal from?
Pkump replied to Tannedhaggis2's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
My nutritionist said I could have Dannon Oikos Triple Zero Greek yoghurt. It is a lifesaver. My stomach will not tolerate anything bigger than a pea so this is perfect for me. Plus it is 15 grams of protein. -
I have to use a laxative. Only gone a few times. No appetite but am eating well. My clothes fit about the same and I get tons of water. I’ll just ride it out and see what happens.

I had my surgery 2/4. I have been stalled since 2/8, I have not lost 1 lb. is that normal this early into the process? I hear about the 3 weeks stall but mine is a less than one week stall. I am doing everything the Dr. told me.

Hypothyroidism and gastric bypass surgery
Pkump replied to Castrad01's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I have hypothyroidism and had bypass surgery Feb 2. My surgeon suggested I see an endocrinologist but still waiting for the referral. Down 8 since surgery but stalled. I am not sure if that is my thyroid or normal. Still plugging along.
