WHERE ARE MY AUGUST 2021 PEEPS?
TinDE replied to phenomenally_me's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I start my pre-op diet on 7/26. I've had a couple of "food funerals" recently - though I've been able to keep my weight stable. Definitely getting nervous. Having a lot of What If thoughts. What if I don't lose weight? What if I have complications? Then there's the melancholy that comes though...am I never going to be able to enjoy food again? Hanging in there.... -

Why did YOU choose your procedure?
TinDE replied to MandM1188's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have GERD/Barrett’s esophagus. RNY is for me. Though I do have a fear of dumping and also concerns about not being able to tolerate certain foods. -

That’s great that you spend that time with your niece. If you’re into nails. Look at https://maniology.com/. You basically rubber stamp nail polish designs. Very easy. -
The nutritionist in my office told me it doesn't count toward my protein goal....but every program is different so I'm sure others were say it does. T.

Almost one year - Down 100lbs - recap
TinDE replied to riverwaters's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Thanks for sharing your story. I have my last dietician appt this week. Then I guess I go on to insurance. I’ve been stressing and having second thoughts but I keep pushing on. My feelings and fears change daily. T. -
How much weight did you lose before surgery?
TinDE replied to lizonaplane's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Our stats are very similar. I’ve lost 30 pounds so far but the last month has been SLOW. I’ve been bouncing back and forth with a couple of pounds for a few weeks now. Surgery will hopefully be late July /Aug. I’d like to lose a few more before then. -
Once a year for the rest of forever

Hope so! Just thinking about a full mask makes me claustrophobic! -

Thanks! I’m hoping it’ll be short lived and I’ll be able to get rid of it after surgery. -

I don’t snore. No trouble sleeping. I had to have a sleep study as part of my insurance requirements for surgery. They decided I have severe sleep apnea and have to go for the C-pap titration study tomorrow night. I’m not a happy camper. T. -

I "snuck" having WLS
TinDE replied to chiquitatummy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So far I’ve only told my husband. Closer to surgery, I’ll let my kids know. Other than that, I’m not sure. I feel like between not seeing anyone due to COVID and probably having surgery at the very end of summer going into fall/winter coat season I could probably hide it and get away with the diet and exercise answer. -
Great topic!!! The idea of WLS was in the (way) back of my mind for a year or two now. I have Barrett's esophagus and the GI doctor suggested it and that's what got the ball rolling. Why didn't I think of it earlier? Not sure. I knew the numbers and the BMI but for some reason just didn't put it all together, if that makes sense. I'm 59 (ugh). There is a family history of DM, stroke, heart issues, etc. Thankfully I haven't had any issues with any of those yet. "Just" hypertension. I feel like I want to travel and do things, but I'm self-conscious so I don't. Flying, dining in a booth at a restaurant, etc. I don't want to worry about it anymore. I'm pre-surgery, 2 months in from my initial surgical consult. I've been really good about exercising, walking, and eating right and I've lost almost 20 pounds. I wondering if I can do this without the WLS. We'll see how it goes. I feel like I'm constantly sore from the exercising though. I figured I'd have a few sore days when I started and that would be that. But 2 months in I'm still sore. And my knees hurt. Why didn't I see how out of shape I was? I mean, that sounds ridiculous right?? T.

Keeping surgery a secret? What did you tell others?
TinDE replied to rmarierenwick's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thankfully mine doesn’t have a masters in counseling, but she is an expert on all subjects 😏. I actually thought something similar. I do have Barrett’s esophagus and was going to say I was undergoing treatment for that and changed my eating habits etc. I guess it depends on timing of surgery, when I seen her, etc. Thanks for understanding! -
Keeping surgery a secret? What did you tell others?
TinDE replied to rmarierenwick's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm on the fence and have thought about this topic a lot. My husband knows, of course. I'll probably tell my kids when it's near surgery time. Other than that, I don't think I'm telling anyone. Possibly if they asked - but most people wouldn't I don't think. There is one exception though. I have a family member who asks a million detail-oriented questions. She's seriously like an interrogator!! (and if she knows, everyone knows) And actually, as I'm typing this, I'm thinking no matter what I say, she'll question it. If I say portion control, I'll get a million questions on that. If I say WLS, she'll ask a million questions about that. So I guess it'll depend on which questions I want to answer~ LOL -
Hello.....New Here! Have A Quick Question
TinDE replied to SummerTimeGirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm not saying you have to have it done beforehand. I'm saying that they are most likely asking your insurance company what is required in order to be approved for surgery (in the future). Calling for information only - not for approval. Then at your initial consultation with the surgeon, they will go over that with you and let you know that you would have to do X, Y and Z should you decide to do the surgery. -
Hello.....New Here! Have A Quick Question
TinDE replied to SummerTimeGirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hi! I’m a newbie too. Just started the journey a month ago. Different insurance companies require different things for bariatric surgery such as X number of dietician visits, procedure has to be done in a certain type of hospital (accredited or center of distinction etc). Some require certain Preop testing and may or may not require you to keep a food diary(that would be sent to them to get approval. So my guess is they are just going to get that info, not necessarily have you approved. Good luck!
