Thanks! I know if you write to some of the companies they will send you free samples. I refuse to buy any unless I can try them for free first. I don't want to waste hundreds of dollars on something I will never drink. SYNTRAX (which makes Nectar, will send you free samples if you write to the company).

Tricare Prime has denied me
JamieNP replied to AZArmyWife36's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow....I would call today and find out the reason for the denial..I know people with your numbers that have been approved. Sometimes it is the Doctor's office that causes the denial (ie, they don't have everything in, they don't use the right codes, they don't do the right tests). My doctor is former military and does a lot of tricare patients. There are many tests that he does that some of you have not had to go through. They acted shocked when I told them I was not sure Tricare covered me...they said "tricare approves everyone". "With your comorbidities you will have no problem". They told me Tricare requires the EKG, EGD, sleep study and PSY exam. My numbers are lower than yours, but my comorbids are high blood pressure and sleep apnea (I am on cpap). Appeal appeal appeal!! -
UUUGGGGGHHHHHH!!!! Non supportive family
JamieNP replied to pstroud100's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Many people that are non supporters are uneducated on weight loss surgery. They hear all of the "horror" stories (mostly about gastric bypass). My comeback is "I have researched this and I believe that this is the best option for me". One of the persons that was non supportive at first is now looking into getting banded too! Good luck!! -
GOOD LUCK!!! Give Simon a good wink for me:wink:

i have 21 hours, 50 minutes until my surgery.
JamieNP replied to blackcherry2002's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's normal to be nervous. You are going to have a life changing experience! Try to relax (easier said than done). Take a nice warm bath (you won't be taking one in awhile) and get your house ready for when you come home. I feel like I am an old pro at surgeries (esp laproscopic procedures) as I have had about 8. -

Ok, I am going to put my 2 cents in... I am a "white" nurse and I work for a company covering 8 hospitals in Nashville, TN. By no means is this Atlanta. But most of the hospitals are downtown, near the projects. Everyday when I go to work, I see homeless people pushing their shopping carts down the road (in fact, they knock on my window when I am in a particular fast food drive-thru). There are "ghetto" areas around the hospitals. I have been fortunate to have had the experience in taking care of people in every socioeconomic bracket, every race, every religion..etc etc. I can honestly say that sometimes I feel safer in these areas than I do where I live (in the country, out in the middle of no where). If at anytime at the hospital you feel uncomfortable you can ask the front desk to have security walk you out. There are probably more dangerous people behind you in line at Walmart.

I just bought it yesterday

I am a Hoosier, although I live in TN now. Originally from Evansville/Princeton/Petersburg area. My mom still lives there and is considering Lapband.

protein shake during pre-surgery clear liquids?
JamieNP replied to blackcherry2002's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
FYI...clear liquids is just that...CLEAR. You can see through it. Jello, broth, sprite, pop cycle (if it melts at room temp to a clear liquid), lemonade, coffee (no cream), tea, juice, water, soft drinks. -
everything that I have heard is Tricare lets you know within days. They should be submitting mine next week and I will let you know how long it takes. Some insurances take forever!

Officialy denied.
JamieNP replied to kstate_armywife's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can still get another insurance. Tricare will always be secondary though. -
Officialy denied.

Kstate...did you call Tricare to see why you were denied?? -

Vote for your favorite protein drink!
JamieNP replied to photo's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am glad you started this poll. I have been looking for information on Protein drinks. Is there anywhere you can get free samples? -
those silly stocking they sent home...
JamieNP replied to just1more's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can powder your legs before you put the hose on. They go on much easier. Also, if they are thigh high, you can roll them down a bit, esp if they are cutting into your leg. They are very important to wear, esp if your surgeon told you to. You DON'T want a DVT or PE!!!! I wear them at work (I'm a nurse and am on my feet all of the time). -
Good luck!!:shades_smile::thumbup::shades_smile: :frown::scared2:

Been in your shoes, girl! Husband just retired. Was in Iraq and Afghanistan 8 times (as well as Somolia in the 90's). My prayers will be with you and your family.

whether you believe in them or not, they still exist! I went to an orthopedic doc for a work injury in my back. I had steroid injections, physical therapy, and muscle relaxers. I just couldn't get any relief. I decided to go to a chiropractor...what the heck...I tried everything else. It was the first time I had relief! It may be uncomfortable on your belly while you are healing. I would let him know about your lapband. He may find another position for you during the adjustment.

They will give you a little "feel good" medicine (most likely versed and diprovan). You will count backwards and then wake up..just like that! It is over in a split second!
