I asked this same question and the answer I got was because bread, pastas, and rices absorb, and do not go through the band easily, causing a block up. I unfortunately can not eat all three, they just don't work, but hey losing weight tastes better then any type of food I cannot eat.

Hi, welcome to LBT. I was banded by Dr. Haag on 11/14, he is awesome. They usually tell you the process takes about 6 months, but because you have already started the process then perhaps your wait will be shorter. I have also experienced a pb a couple of times but it is not the end of the world, just extremely uncomfortable. The lab band was the best thing I ever did for myself. As far as complications such as slippage, my thought is there are far more complications for me staying overweight. With anything you do there is a risk, but to me the benefits out weighed the risks. When you go to the information session make sure you ask questions about the risks, and or how many slippages and flipped ports pvsa has had. All in all I would not worry to much, Fiallo is a great doc as well. Keep us updated on your journey, and maybe we will see you at the support group meetings. Good luck.:sneaky:

2nd Day of liquid diet, worried about liver not shrinking enough
Brockbabe82 replied to HollyRnOh's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't worry everything seems rough right now but believe me you will not regret it. Take it day by day and whenyou get frustrated think of where you will be in a few months from now. Good luck and keep us updated on your progress. -
Congrats on the start of a happier and healthier you. I am glad to see another newbie in their twenties, gain control of their lives. Good luck.

Some Advice / Reassurance Regarding Intake
Brockbabe82 replied to bignik's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You sound like you are doing great. Starting our it is very difficult to figure out what works for you and what doesnt. As long as you are trying to get your protein in and doing it in a healthy manner then don't worry too much. -
The main reasons why I did the lapband was because it is adjustable, the is no bypassing my insides, and the weight loss at a 3 year length is the same as a bypass patient. I have to say having the lap band was the best decision I ever made.

Did you go to user cp, edit signature, then paste?

So I figured I would do something nice today with my cousins who I babysit often. I asked them what they wanted to do, they all wanted to see Hannah Montana the movie. I usually dread the movies because the seats are too tight and dig into my sides. I immediatly was like c'mon lets go bowling or something. Eventually I caved in and off we went to the movies. I walked in and thought to myself well here goes two hours of discomfort. I walked over to the seat and sat down and I actually comfortably fit. The sides did not dig in , nor did I feel uncomfortable at all. I was so excited because I used to love the movies. That feeling was way better then the popcorn I could not eat.lol

go to Tickerfactory.com and build the ticker of your choice. Then copy the code that is there. Then you go to lapbandtalk.com and got to user cp. Then edit signature and paste the code in. Hope that helped.

Who was the first to compliment you on your weight loss??
Brockbabe82 replied to 1RockinMom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am a waitress at restaurant and had not seen a table of regulars in a couple of weeks as they were on vacation. When they walked in one morning they started saying oh my god, and you are slimming down,. It felt nice to know that people can tell. I can tell in my clothes but otherwise I still feel like the same ol' me. I am hoping as I continue to prosper with this band I will start having the self esteem to see myself different. -
Does anyone know when the May meeting is. I have school on Monday nights in APril and therefore can't get to those meetings. I am hoping to be able to attend this summer, and meet many of you.

Tickerfactory.com. Then you design it and edit your signature on lapbandtalk.com and paste it in. BTW good luck with your surgery, and congrats on the start of a happier and healthier you. -
I find that if I eat at night before bed, which I try hard not to do, I have nightmares. They can be about anything, it's weird. I can't wait to have dreams where I am skinny in them lol....

I would hold off as well. You do not want to sabotage your weight loss or overfill yourself. Save the money and buy some new clothes or something. It seems as if you are doing excellent. Keep up the good work.

plateau...already..is that even possible?
Brockbabe82 replied to StephOnee's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
your reintroducing carbs into your day, going from liquid to that sometimes causes weight gain. They call this period of time between surgery day to first fill, bandster hell, so relax and focus on the beginning of your journey. The doc told me not to focus so much on the scale but to focus on making healthy choices and exercising. So good luck and try not to weigh yourself so much, I still have a problem with that. I weigh myself like 10 times a day but remember they say a person's weight can fluctuate 8 lbs a day, thats a lot, so don't worry. -
Good luck to you 2!!!!

Getting banded is definitely a difficult process. However it has also saved my life and for that I do not regret one second of it. I love my band and will continue being an advocate for the lapband system.

Good luck Shannon. Enjoy the entrance to a happier and healthier life!

Don't need to do the pre-op diet?
Brockbabe82 replied to Pangaeus's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also was not made to do a preop liquid diet. I was however made to lose 20 lbs before surgery. It was difficult but from September till the day of my surgery I was not able to cheat or have one last meal lol. But you know what I figured I rather be heading in the right direction then mourning food. I am so happy that I was able to get banded that I didnt need that last few days of eating normally. -
Just stopping by and saying Happy Easter to everyone. Good luck in making those positive choices, especially on stressful days such as holidays. How is everyone doing? Everyone feeling good? Hope all is well.

good luck, bring a pillow with you for the ride home just in case you go over any bumps.
