    post op meds?

When I had my surgery they gave me two perscriptions. One was percocets for pain, I think I had enough for 5 day post op. They also gave me a stool softener because I guess that is a significant problem amoung bandsters. As far as any medications for life, that would be vitamins. It is essential to take a vitamin, that way we do not lack any nutrients.

Symptons of Band slippage and / or erosion

"There are two types of slippage; anterior and posterior. This refers to whether the front or back side of the stomach slips. There is something else called concentric pouch dilation, but this is not the same as slippage. Slippage or prolapse is when the stomach slides up through the Band, making the pouch bigger. If this happens the Band usually becomes too tight, and patients experience symptoms of reflux (heartburn) as well as nausea and vomiting. This is because the amount of stomach being “squeezed” by the Band is increased, thereby obstructing the Band. There are several causes. Posterior slippage was more common when the Band was placed by the “perigastric” technique. With this technique the back side of the stomach was free to slide up through the Band. These days most surgeons use the “pars flaccida” technique, which was developed to prevent posterior slippage, and has more or less eliminated the incidence of this problem. Anterior slippage is when the front of the stomach slips up through the Band. We try to prevent this by suturing the stomach below the Band to the stomach above the Band, “locking” the Band in place in the right spot. In spite of this, slippage still occurs. It can happen because we haven't placed enough stitches, or they haven't been placed in the right place. Slippage can also occur if patients eat too much and vomit frequently. " This is what my packet said. Hope it helped. Sending healthy vibes your way!

pain reliever will not help a blood clot. You need to NOT wait. You should get to a hospital now.

    Food being stuck

Have you ever eaten or drank something and you feel a pain in your back( before banding). Its like an intense pain where it hurts to sit or stand, its actually pretty unbearable, personally speaking. Once you feel it once , you wont want to feel it again!

    Maybe I over did it?

Its probably a sign that you over did it. Try walking for 20 minute intervals several times a day. If the pain persists call the doc, right away! Keep your head up!

    Thinking about getting banded!

Welcome Ebony! I too was over 400 lbs when I started my process, 415 to be exact. I was fed up with my aches and pains and had done many diets before, with little or no success. I was banded 11/14/08 and I am down over 80lbs! It was the best thing I have done for myself, it has given me my life back! I know I will never be stick thing but I want to be healthy, have children, and have a future. The route I was going before there would have been no future. I can't tell you enough how wonderful the band is and would suggest it to anyone. However you should go to a seminar in your area and learn more on what it actually is, and perhaps meet with a surgeon . Good luck to you!
  16. My only advice is take it day by day, hour by hour if you have to. This is an exciting moment in your life and it it is not easy but don't get discouraged. Good luck to you!

    Who pays for fills?

Insurance companies usually foohe bill if they covered surgery, but if they do not , then it is up to the patient, and it can get pretty pricey. Hopefully your insurance will cover! good luck to you!

    College?

Do you have a meal plan at school? I know they have fruit, and salad bars at these places. Also they serve some sort of protein with their meals, and you could probably accomadate them to your meals. Like it was said before, tuna is cheap, nuts, protein powder, etc. There are many things you could find, look in the grocery stores weekly ads. Good luck!

    Divorce after the Lap Band

oh definitely! I have had many family members become jealous because I am succeeding in something. Its sad that they cant support me but I figure along with the weight I will lose the toxic people in my life. I'm sorry that things with your husband have not worked out, perhaps this will be a wakeup call for him. If not you will surely find someone out there who loves, respects, and appreciates all your decisions big and small. Good luck to you!
