If a doc was in the "ghetto".....
2GoodDogs replied to kaytiebugs's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Find a surgeon you like, the rest is secondary. I can't say enough good things about my experience with Drs. Hart and Johnson, Emory Johns Creek, or Atlanta Bariatrics. They are my team and they could be anywhere in the city and still be my #1 choice. However, they are located in the new and shiny city of Johns Creek, just outside Suwanee. They have a seminar at the hospital every month. -
Okay, South Beach Phase I ... ready, set, go! Anyone else using the South Beach food guide?

Newbie looking for advice

After the inital visit with the surgeon/practice: Went to an orientation Attended a support group meeting I took EKG/CBC/Upper GI tests at the hospital Saw the Registered Dietician Saw the Psychologist Got a letter from my general practicioner Got a sleep study Then, out of seemingly nowhere the approval letter from insurance came! (the surgeon's practice tracked everything, and when complete, submitted it for me) -
Still doing great! I had one low energy day, but it didn't last long. Did not have any of the shoulder pain some complain about, I wonder if the surgeon had anything to do with that, like sucking out the air they pumped into the cavity to expand it. I did um.. burp and fart alot for a few days. I live alone and the dogs didn't mind. LOL.. The swelling is down and I'm able to eat a whole cup of food. My goal until my first fill is to not gain anything! On the 26th I can resume exercise at Curves, yay! I'm walking a mile a day, and 30 minutes cardio (dancing) 3 x a week. Low fat, low sugar, no refined carbs.

My nut says it is so the band can heal and scar tissue can heal. You shouldn't be eating food that could cause you to throw up or work the band too hard. Besides, its a small price to pay for weight loss! 2 more weeks of mushies for me!

July Bandsters...how much have you lost since surgery??
2GoodDogs replied to MarylandMommy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
and 4 weeks to a fill. My goal is not to gain any these next 4 weeks. I'll use a measuring cup and eat on my plan. Oh, and get at least 30 minutes of walking or exercise every day. -

I am so looking forward to the day I can say I've beat the obesity, but not my band. I don't expect my band to do all the work. I expect it to be there to restrict while I train myself that the answer to my crave for satiety is not in extra servings or big sizes. Dr. Johnson and I have a deal. I will control what I eat, he said the band will control how much. Four more weeks till first fill. -
Are you completely happy with your lap band decision.

I am one happy customer! Wish I'd thought of it sooner. :biggrin2: -
How long did you feel restriction after surgery? (before 1st fill)
2GoodDogs replied to eisermanr7's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started mushy food on day 7, last Friday. I was fine, and restricted till two days ago, now it seems I'm eating the whole 8 ounces of yogurt, and a whole packet of oatmeal. I think I've entered Bandster Hell! -
Share ideas, What did you eat today ?

B - 4 oz. Activia light yogurt S - chicken broth L - ff refried beans, salsa, dab light sour cream S - 2 sauteed chicken livers D - eggbeaters -
I don't know how I got so lucky, very little gas pain and none in my shoulder or back! Congrats on the weight loss!

Restriction right after surgery
2GoodDogs replied to pjd3253's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've gone from 2 oz of full liquids, to 4, to nearly 8 at a time, in the week since I've been banded. I limit though how much I'm getting - even if I could have more. When I think I'm hungry and it isn't time for a meal, I walk the dogs. One week full liquids, now 2 weeks of mushies, no more than 1/2 cup at each meal. 3 meals a day. Loving my new band! What a breeze this has been. chocolate cake was served at a meeting last night. Someone asked if I wanted some, I said no thanks - and meant it! Looked like diabetes on a plate to me and I'd sooner drunk swamp Water. -

When will I be able to sleep on my side and/or tummy?
2GoodDogs replied to slim2be's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded last Thursday, not a problem sleeping on my side - either one, but my port is on the right. I use a pillow under my tummy. -
Bad breath, icky mouth
2GoodDogs replied to 2GoodDogs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My dogs confirm that I smell different. I train and show in dog obedience competitions (next weekend too, if I'm up to it) and one of the things he has to do is select the metal and leather article that I've handled from several identical ones. Usually his best exercise, he hasn't gotten it right in practice the last 3 days. I heard this happens to dogs whose people have undergone chemo too. I have a white tongue, will ask the doc about it. Could be thrush. -
Full liquids for a full 7 days after surgery. I'm enjoying the unjury Protein powders. I put it in skim milk for a shake, or low fat yogurt. I can have cream soups but haven't tried that yet. The Unjury chocolate is good, and the unflavored goes into my Special K2o flavored Water. This morning I tossed in a large spoon of PB2 (dehydrated Peanut Butter powder) into a vanilla Unjury protein packet and skim milk, it's really very good. I'm having a hard time making it last the required 1 hour to drink....

Had some gas pain last night that was pretty uncomfortable, but this morning feeling good and ...dare I say, skinnier? I long for mushy food, but only liquid Protein shakes till Friday. Funny what my head is doing, I'll think - it's time to make a sandwich! Then I remember I'm banded, and go sip some Water instead. I think that is what they call head hunger.

I came to Atlanta Bariatrics through True Results.com, met with Dr. Johnson and my journey quickly progressed. Love the Nuts, Melissa and Rachael, and the Emory Johns Creek hospital. Been a great experience, just a tad worried that Dr. Johnson doesn't numb before a fill.... ?
-
Banded 7/3 too. Port incision is angry red and warm to hot to the touch. Other incisions are not. I'm not worried, this incision had the port pass through it and it is the one that is getting the pressure on it when I cough or get up.

July 5- Ladies who are new bandsters, how are you feeling?
2GoodDogs replied to zeama's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was banded on the 3rd. I'm done with pain meds, feel pretty good. Walking and sipping Protein shakes, burping and um... pf (productive farts!) LOL, hope that wasn't Too Much Info! Going to take a shower and get outside the house for a little walk. -
Day before pre-op I was ordered to Clear liquids only. Not a problem but I did leak a little on surgery day. Post op day 3 and I'm doing fine. No pain meds needed since yesterday morning.

I'll be driving myself to the hospital in the morning, and I'll be alone. A friend is going to come when I am post op and moved to my room. I have to spend the night because of the CPAP machine I'm on. My son said he would come as soon as he gets off work tomorrow, and I've arranged for someone to come and feed the dogs and let them out. I want to come home in my van, as it is comfortable, and DS's car is not. My daughter in law will drive his car home when I'm discharged, and he will drive me in my van. The hospital is terrific, and I'm sure I will be well taken care of. A valium would be nice about now though! So, surviving bandsters, if you would please - post your support and good wishes?
-
I stayed overnight, but that was because I use a CPAP machine. The other bandsters got to go home.
