I got my tentative surgery date for March 2. Elective surgeries are stopped at the moment ,but they think they will start back in the next couple of weeks. It seems like such a long time, but I know it will be here before I know it.

Patience and research is definitely the key, this is life changing stuff. Get on you tube and find a channel you like and subscribe to it. Read as much as you can about your surgery, but more importantly about what to expect the hours, days and weeks following.

    Best of luck x

You’re right I feel like I have been research and reading for the last year. I could probably do the damn surgery myself lol but seriously thank you for the advice.

I know you were super nervous and confused about the approval dates given versus the actual surgery date. Congrats.

    Advice:

Take the pre-op diet seriously and follow it to the letter to shrink your liver and prepare for surgery.

Know that you're going to be nauseous for 24 hours after surgery and it's miserable, but it's only for 24 hours and you can survive it.

Thank you so much that is wonderful advice and I will take heed! So my official surgery date is March 17th and I start pre-op March 2nd. She said when I go in to sign my consent forms I will also have my pre admin testing done, I’m like god more testing lol but she said it’s just a urine and chest xray abs updated lab work. I’m not sure what she meant by updated lab work though. Is that more blood being drawn?

  4. After what seems like a million years I finally got my approval!!! I am ecstatic and overjoyed! Now that it is really happening I can’t lie I am kind of nervous because I never had a surgery besides a c-section almost 20 years ago lol I am waiting to speak with the nurse so I can pick a date but I know it will be sometime in February omg!!!! Any helpful tips and tricks will be highly appreciated!

My surgeon submitted dates for October or November to get the approval, but her schedule wasn't available until December, so once they got approval they just adjusted the dates to fit the surgeon's scheduled surgery.

Yup I followed up with my doctor and that’s exactly what they did. Thank you!

  6. So my insurance company told me my doctor submitted a surgery date of 1/11 until 1/13 because I will be impatient pending I get my authorization. However when I had my last meeting with my surgeon she said my surgery would be in February. Is it possible they moved up the date? Has this happened to anyone before?

  7. So I actually got a better answer from the insurance company. They said my auth is still pending and it will be processed after the new year. I also asked about the date I was told of 1/11 and she said that is the date that was provided by my surgeon. She said the date shows 1/11 to 1/13 because it is a inpatient procedure. So they will definitely process my auth probably by early next week. The only thing I am still a little confused about is my surgeon originally said I would have the surgery in February. So I am thinking if they just told the insurance that date to get it approved faster? Any insight?

  8. Thank you so much that is really helpful! I am getting frustrated because I am getting different answers. First I was told it was approved, then I was told it’s still pending, now I am being told they don’t even see my paperwork. I am beyond annoyed.

  9. Hello I’m at the last leg of my program and everything has been submitted and I am now waiting on an approval. The hospital submitted my paperwork last Tuesday and I’m just wondering how long should I wait to get an answer. Me being impatient I called the insurance company yesterday just to confirm my paperwork got submitted and it did. First the guy said I was approved and I have a date of 1/11 then at the end of the call he said it’s still pending. I was like wait you just said it was approved. So now I am confused. I really hope I get an approval soon.

  10. Hi I just need a little advice or something . I called my insurance company BCBSNJ to make sure they received my paperwork for authorization for wls and to see if there was an answer yet. First the guy said I had been approved for the procedure on 1/11 then at the end of the call he was like so it is still pending. I was like wait I thought you said it was approved so what procedure am I getting on 1/11? He said the wls so I was like then I should be approved pretty quickly right ? And he agreed. Now I am not sure what’s going on, am I approved or is it still pending and why would he give me a date of 1/11? I tried calling the doctor but had to leave a message. Please help me understand...

Everybody's weight loss is different because we're different sizes, ages, genders and each body is different. So try not to compare yourself too much to others on here because it can be discouraging if you aren't benchmarking what they're doing. That being said, I think I lost 30 pounds in the first 3 months and yes I had to buy new (used) clothes and I felt so much better.

You’re so right about that! And 30lbs is a great loss!

I am about 2 weeks shy of 3 months (surgery date 10/14. My starting weight was 222, I weigh 190 now. I went down 2.5 sizes. Yes I see a big difference. Can't wait for an even bigger difference. I struggle most days because I feel it should be coming off faster but it's better than nothing so I'll take it.

That is amazing ! You stared off with a low weight anyway so it may take longer to get to your goal but I’m sure it feels good to be out of the 200’s!
