My first goal is anything with a size that begins with a 1 instead of a 2 or 3 so I bought a size 18 pair of jeans. Oh and I have a pair of cut offs that I had when hubby and I first got together...they are the first goal...got them on..butt looks good...but have about 5 inches to go before they zip....lol

I call mine Maxine after my previous boss. Some days she was in a good mood and everything was great. Other days she was in a bad mood and everything sucked. So Maxine it is.

Too bad I can't get my really nice brooch to your Mom....it looks so classy till you get close enough to read it....Champion Mustache Rider!!! I've had it for about 25 years and can't even remember where I got it! Those years are a little foggy...lol...maybe I won a contest...lol

I am an absolute cheetos freak and french fries. And much to my dismay they go down fine now. I have trouble with some mushy things but no trouble at all with crunchy salty things. Gotta learn to stay away! I love pasta but the only pasta I have tried since banding is orzo...couldn't effectively chew it...so only had a couple of bites...that's on my no no list.

Seems to me that we're all doing great, not so much in our minds maybe. But looking at those that post their weight stats, I'd say that the 1-2 lbs a week is happening. I know for me I want to go to bed and wake up skinny...ain't happenin'! I've really tried to break the weigh every day thing. I try to weigh every Monday morning. My weight fluctuates so much day to day because its getting hot here in Florida and for me that means swollen ankles. So the Water goes up and down. Good luck everyone...seems we're a bunch of losers...the good kind!!!!

Just thought I would check in with all you March banders. How's everyone doing? I've had my first fill and it's like starting all over with learning the new eating habits. If I could just stop taking that last bite! All in all I'm still happy I did this. No pb's yet...but I have the slime thing down...lol That's disgusting! And I've learned a valuable lesson...never, never, never eat cheese peanut butter crackers while driving in rush hour traffic...NOT GOOD!!! Let me know how y'all are doing!

When I told my cousin about the surgery she asked a lot of questions, including about the money. I told her it was coming out of my retirement and how much it cost. Even though she didn't say it to me, she told her sister she just couldn't believe I would spend so much money on this. She's skinny...too skinny...was overweight in school and lost it all on her own. She doesn't understand why I don't just DO IT. We are the same age...she lost her weight 35 years ago...now it I could have done it like her wouldn't I have. She'll get over it!!!! And will be mighty jealous when I'm the best looking one...lol...I already am!!!!

About a week before my surgery, I got up one morning and I was on here and just started crying, for about 3 hrs before my dh got up. I was afraid of failure. I was banded 3/14 and I haven't had those thoughts since. This is going to work, if I let it. And I'm going to let it. 64 oz of Water? no carbonated beverages?....what was I doing? 3 weeks out...I'm doing great...drink almost nothing but water (and I've always hated it..now I really do want it)...yesterday was the first day I REALLY wanted a Coke...but it went away when I started doing something else I'm not saying every day is easy...but not nearly as hard as I had myself convinced it was going to be... A bad day healthier is better than a good day slowly killing myself with food.

My husband never tells me NO that I can't do something. We both feel that we don't own each other and don't have the right to do that. The only time he said an absolute No I don't want you to do that was when I wanted to do the RNY. When the band came up he was more open to it, but like your husband he is very afraid of anyone going under general anthestisa (sp), but since I had had a couple of surgeries before and did fine with that he reluctantly agreed. He took a whole week off of work to be with me and he is glad I had it done now. Because of the money thing, I don't think he will let me cheat or do things to defeat the band...lol I was self-pay and $17,000 is a lot of money to us...he won't let me waste it.

How in the heck did I lose 3 pounds???
vlb11752 replied to fiveholts714's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Sometimes its a metabolism thing. When I did weight watchers when I would reach a plateau and not lose for a couple of weeks, I would go out and eat a big...not on program.. meal and that week I would lose a couple of pounds. Someone explained that my body was thinking it was starving so it would slow down the metabolism...then I would eat a really big meal and it would decide things were back to the usual and speed up the metabolism. Maybe thats what happend to you...sounds good anyway. Problem is that doesn't last long. But hey 3 lbs down is 3 lbs down. Good job! -
I was banded March 14th...doing great, have lost 10 lbs and I haven't even started exercising. I'm eating regular food, but in much smaller quantities. I even had pizza last night...one slice of a supreme...I usually ate half a large. Actually I only ate half of the piece with the crust and just the toppings off the other half. I haven't lost any weight this week, but I haven't gained either. My first fill is April 10th.

I get the hiccups when I eat too fast.
-
Oh, I forgot to mention. I didn't have the horrible gas pain in the shoulder that most people talk about either. My dh had warned me about the pain too because he had had laproscopic gall bladder surgery a couple of years before. I was very fortunate on that.

Me too! Dr said to shrink liver, because an obese person has a fatty liver and fatty livers are larger and harder and when you put the liver retractor against a harder liver it could tear. He told me that if the liver wasn't easy to move he would not do the surgery. His word were "I'm no cowboy, I won't do this if there is danger of spliting the liver". I took him at his word and did it for 3 weeks instead of 2. I cheated a couple of times, but only with Protein, like a grilled boneless skinless chicken breast and once with light laughing cow cheese. My liver was in good shape and I had lost 17 lbs.

My first attempt at mashed potatoes was not good. Regular mashed potatoes with butter and milk are really kind of gummy. I think maybe a little bit of baked potato with a small dab of margarine would have been better. I haven't tried oatmeal yet. Whatever you attempt chew chew chew chew and eat slow slow slow...put that fork down. I was banded 03/14/06...and its a trial and error learning thing...just don't push it too fast. Good luck!!

I tried some scrambled egg and grits this morning, 1 egg & a couple of tablespoons of grits. I started feeling full at about half way (I think that was what I was feeling). Then I really had to struggle to not throw up...then I got the hiccups... AND THEN I started foaming and all this mucous came out...I mean bunches, no food just mucous...was that sliming? what caused it? I was banded 03/14/06

Yeah!!! I'm 12 days ahead of you...just got back from grocery shopping. I had to sleep in the recliner 3 nights and now do just fine. Was off pain meds completely after about 4 days. Went to work after 5 days. That was a little rough. Good luck!! You'll feel much better in no time. Sip Sip Sip Walk Walk Walk Walking really will make you feel better.

What the heck just happened to me????
vlb11752 replied to vlb11752's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Oh thanks guys! LOL Where does all that come from? What causes it, type of food, amount of food, speed you eat? -
Not a very good day. I felt full and kind of sore all day. Decided I wanted to try mushies for the first time....was banded a week ago. I got this horrible pain...tried to walk it off...then had to fight to keep from throwing up. Then I got the most horrible hiccups I have EVER had, one after the other. Then I got a little better, sat on the couch and put a heating pad on my tummy. I feel better right now than I have all day. I've been taking my gas-x. I don't feel like I am getting enough calories or Water, but I keep sipping and I get so full feeling. Any body got any suggestions? 16 oz of water and about 200 calories with 15 grams of protien in a whole day just does not seem like enough. I'm not hungry and I have no fill.

Thanks for the help everyone! My Dr & his asst. asked for a good website. I was his first patient for the program here at St. Vincent's in Jacksonville FL (not his first ever though). I gave them this site to give those that follow me. I feel MUCH better and its liquid, liquid, liquid for me for a few more days and try it again.

Whew! What a relief I finally got to sleep in my own bed last night. I spent my first 3 nights at home on the couch. All and all not too bad an experience so far. Has anyone else had a major gas and diaharrea (sp?) problem? I'm not talking about the shoulder pain gas thing just the stomach and intestine gas...sounds like the war of the worlds is going on in there..lol. I also have a hard time burping (think I'm afraid it will be productive). I go back to work tomorrow...I should be a real joy in a meeting if this doesn't calm down...lol

I was banded 3/14/06 did ok yesterday with just liquid extra strength tylenol. Only a couple of places sore, especially where the port is. Finally slept in my bed last night. I'm not in much pain, just moving a little slower and get tired easy. I would say another week and we should be movin' on!

I had my surgery yesterday and my surgeon said I'm doing so well I can do full liquids.
-
I was banded yesterday morning!!!! Came home this morning!!! I'm doing GREAT!! No nausea...no shoulder gas pain....up and about (slowly). Drinking fine Dr. said I was a model patient. Now if I could pass this other gas...lol...I would feel much better!!! My prayer for everyone with upcoming surgery is that they do as well as I am doing!!!!

Only 3 hours to go....I've been pacing the floor and dying of thirst. I'm so excited to get the show on the road...and start living the banded life!!!! SEE YOU ALL ON THE OTHER SIDE IN BANDOM!!!!
