  1. Thank you Zenaida. I was just looking at your surgery date and thinking ..boy, if I had to wait another 10 days!!! I've been following your posts, hopefully I can be encouraging to you as I start my post banded journey . Dee
  2. Reading posts like this have helped me to make the decision not to weigh myself until I am at least a month out from surgery. It seems the body goes through such fluctuations with these pre-op diets and then the gas and Fluid build up after surgery and the liquid diets. I'm going to go by how I feel and my clothes fit. My surgery is tomorrow so I will measure myself tonight and weigh myself tomorrow and that will be it for as least a month if not more.
  3. Hey Laurie, I imagine it's hard but in some ways I wish I had to do the pre-op diet. I haven't been going crazy but I'm the nervous type and now I'm scared that they will open me up tomorrow and say "no, we can't do it, she ate this or she had a glass of wine and that blew her liver up" I know it hasn't been easy for you though. I'm doing all liquids today and I had to take a bottle of citrate of magnesia..ugh!! Don't forget to check in as soon as you can tomorrow. Don't forget the other site too. What time is your surgery tomorrow? I don't have to be at the hospital until 12:30p so I probably won't be going in until about 2 or after. I'll check back in as soon as I can. Go to bed early tonight . Get some good rest. Dee
  4. I don't know if it's normal but I hope it happens to me.
  5. Hey Laurie, I'm in the same boat as you. I'm going in on 8/16 too. Thankfully, I didn't have to do a pre-op diet except for tomorrow I have to have liquids all day and take a bottle of citrate of magnesia to clean my bowels. I planned to do the liquids on my own but I have been so stressed with everything that I haven't really been able to do it. I haven't been going crazy and having big last meals and I've been watching my carbs and sugar. I'm an emotional eater and my DH is stressing me today and my Father is sick and my family is aggravating me so I am trying hard not to go on a fried food frenzy. I'm going to eat something and then go to bed early. Dee
  6. Thank you Jen . Your very kind. I just can't wait 'til Monday evening when this part is all over. Dee
  7. Oh Jen, believe me I had an appt with the surgeon on 8/3 and I took my Dh with me and I surely did tell him exactly how I felt. I told him that I was having 2nd thoughts about his practice because his staff has been so crappy to me and I am concerned about my aftercare. I laid it out for him. He apologized to me and told me if I ever had a problem to call him and he would get to me immediately. He talked to my DH and praised him for being so supportive. He stood by the staff but he said he would talk to them. As per usual I went to see my PCP on 8/11 and my pre-op tests had not been faxed to him so he could clear me for surgery so his asst had to call the head hag in the surgeons office and my PCP's asst told me that she (the twit) laughed when she said my name. So whatever problem she has is hers. If I ever have to deal with her again believe me I will tell her off w/o cussing or calling names. Hopefully, I'll have my surgery and few if any complications and I won't ever have to deal with her again. Dreamskin, I'm going off to read your story now.
  8. Are you asking me or night nurse or someone else? If me, I'm in NY and my surgeon is Dr.Gorecki in NY Methodist hosp. He seems to be OK but his staff has been a pill to deal with.
  9. I went out and bought it a couple of weeks ago to have on hand after surgery. It was good but it gave me such bad gas that I will never drink it again. I had the kind of bad gas pains that are described here after surgery. It was all in my back and made me miserable. So that's off my list.
  10. Sorry this happened to you but it makes me feel so not alone because my surgeons staff is the same way. I thought I was having a personal problem because I read here how everyone is so happy with their dr's staff and how they are so nice but mine have treated me like I'm on welfare and begging for a free surgery. I can't stand them but hopefully after my surgery I won't see them as much. I don't even want to go to the support meetings becauseI feel no connection with them and don't want to spend an extra minute in their presence. That's ok though their insolent behavior has just given me extra motivation to make it to goal ASAP. As long as I regain my health and zest for life they can all kick rocks
  11. Glad you're feeling better. Enjoy your daughter.
  12. Thank you Jennifer, same to you. I just can't wait I want this over already. Timandmich...are you kidding?! Wow that was 2 1/2 hours out of your day and done. Please get some rest and feel better. Come back to give us the blow by blow soon as you can. I wish my Dr would do that. He wants his patients to stay overnight. I hate hospitals. I just want to do what I have to do and then spend the night in my own bed. I hope he at least releases me 1st thing the next morning.

    Pre-op LIQUID DIET HELP

NO ALCOHOL. The purpose of the pre-op diet is to shrink your liver. Alcohol is directly opposed to that. I would not be able to do any parties right about now. Parties and alcohol will always be here.
  14. I plan to wear a maxi-dress , sports bra and flip-flops. Easy on, easy off. I wear mostly Spanx when I go out to hold in the jiggle so I will have to dig up a pair of undies to wear in and out. I carry a medical directive in my Wallet so I will probably have the fact that I have a port put on that. I can't see wearing a bracelet or necklace saying that I have a port. Not my style and I wouldn't want everyone asking me what that is. I understand those that do though. To each his own.
  15. YAY!! Ile4me and Kurby you're done...now on to the hard part. I hope you both get plenty of rest today and start feeling better real soon. Kurby you're so fortunate not to have that pesky gas pain. I was kinda dreading that. Check in and let us know how it's going when you can.
  16. It's 11am you should be out timandmich. I hope you're doing well and relieved. Keep us posted. bHunter..you an dI both on the 16th with a couple of others. I can't wait til it's over and I'm back home in my own bed . This seems like forever .
  17. I wish you the very best for tomorrow. In a few hours it'll all be over and you'll be on your way.
  18. Hey Shadena, I am glad I decided to come in and check the site cause I was worried about you. I was looking for you in the August rush thread. They were checking for you on the other site too. I'm so sorry that they got you so stressed on your surgery day. I just know in my heart with the experience I've been having with my surgeon so far that my story will be bout the same as yours. So , I'm preparing myself for it. I guess there's no way to prep just getting my mind ready to not stress over the craziness. Don't be brave take the meds when you need them as often as you need them. I have a high tolerance for pain too but I've decided that I'm gonna take all my meds before the pain hits me. Did you mean he had trouble placing your port because you had a small stomach area? I hope you heal quickly and get some rest so that you can feel better every day, especially being that your going back to work on Tuesday. Get a lot of rest and take your meds and walk when you can. Let us know how it goes. Dee
  19. I'm sorry their putting you through this. You must be miserable. Hopefully, you're in there now and on your way to recovery. I'm sure this is going to happen to me too. I'll be starving and thirsty and sitting there twiddling my thumbs and getting more and more nervous as the day goes on. Tomorrow this will be all behind you. I wish you the best.

    Pre op testing

Great !! I'm glad you feel better and I was able to help. It was my pleasure. :wink2: Sometimes I'm afraid my posts are too long winded but I know I had questions and I like to know everything, so I tell as much as I know. My PCP actually put me at ease yesterday. I asked him what are the chances of me dying ? can I have a stroke? can I have a heart attack? I know crazy.... but he assured me that's why they do all the pre-op testing to try to insure that those types of things don't happen. We just have to get through the surgery which a lot say is a piece of cake and then we'll be on to our new life . We'll be buying clothes and shoes and bags and putting our hubby's into debt I can't wait !! Come and join us in the August Rush 2010 thread if you haven't already so we can keep tabs on each other. I'm also on Bandedliving.com

    Pre op testing

I just had my pre-op tests done on Monday. I was a little nervous about it too but It was a breeze. As soon as I finished doing my paperwork, not much just general questions at this point they have all your info in the computer, the nurse called me back into the room. They took my BP. Then a nurse took my blood . They took 10 small tubes of blood which was a little eek!! but not painful. Oh, while they are doing all that they give you pre-op instructions on what to do or not to do before surgery and they tell you when the hospital will call you to tell you when to come in for surgery. Then they did an EKG on me easy peezy, no disrobing just pulling my blouse up . Wear a skirt and blouse or slacks and blouse so you don't have to take it all off. After that I was sent to speak to the anesthesiologist which took all of 5 minutes if that. After that I was sent in for a chest x-ray which was fine over in 5 minutes. Done!! I was in at 9 and finished by about 10:15 . Get there a little earlier if you can they give us appt's but it's mostly 1st come 1st serve. Even though you did bloodwork in June this is to be sure you're in tip-top shape for the surgery so just grin and bear it. My PCP got the results yesterday and everything was fine for my surgery coming up on Monday 8/16. It is a bother but this is how they make sure that you can withstand the surgery and have no underlying problems. If your results were good in June they'll still be good . Don't worry about anything. I wish you the best.
  22. You and I must have read the same post yesterday and I saw a vid on YouTube where the woman was saying that she made a big mistake and she even thinks that the band will be taken off the market in a few years. Reading stuff like that made me put off getting the band for a couple of years even though my Dr recommended it for me. Some people have real medical problems and the band will not work as well for them but I think a lot of people just don't put the work in that is necessary to make this band work. I keep telling myself this is just a tool. It's not a cure all and when it's done I'm not going to drop 20lbs every month. I have to eat well and exercise and the band will complement that. Another successful bandster also told me that same thing that many of the successes are out living their life and not hanging around here giving us horror stories. I too have fears of doing this and still complaining about my weight this time next year. I think that's natural. Only time will tell.
  23. Congrats to all you newly banded and doing well. It's so hard to keep up with the 2 threads going. I forget what I post where and who checked in and who didn't. So forgive me if I repeat myself. I think Shadena was banded today also but she hasn't checked in the last couple of days. I hope she does soon. I got my clearance letter from my Dr today he said all was fine and that I shouldn't be nervous. He said the band is a surgery with a very low complication rate . So I feel a bit better but I'm sure I will have a few sleepless nights btwn now and Monday. I just want it to be over already. All of you checking in to say it's done , you're oK and it was a piece of cake are a big reassurance to us that have yet to go. Imagine all of us August rushers will be posting next month about how much we've lost and how we're feeling. It will all be over and we'll be on the losing track. We'll all be a bunch of losers!! Oh Kelly, I agree with you ...low carb is gonna be my mode of eating. It's always worked for me the only thing is this time I don't have to worry about gaining it all back .
  24. Good for you Diane. Rest well tonight, can't wait to hear all about your experience.
