    what do u c??????

It is interesting but I don't find it surprising. I think getting to a certain level of overweight is in itself an eating disorder. When you eat to comfort yourself or when you eat past the point of fullness or when you eat 'til your morbidly obese an starting to have co-morbidities is an eating disorder. IMHO...and having a lap band placed is not going to end it for some of us. I am hoping and praying that I won't be one of those people. It is just like those that have GB and regain the weight. This weight issue is very, very complicated and I really don't think it will ever be cured or truly understood. I wish the best for the OP and I hope you are able to come to grips with your situation. You truly do look great. Go and enjoy yourself to the best of your ability and as I type that I know sometimes it is much easier said than done.
  4. I'm so jealous of all of you being banded this week. Oh, just to have it all behind you and on your way. I have a date of 8/16 but I think if I can I'm going to change it depending on what type of pre-op diet my Dr. wants me to do. I don't want to mess around and not be ready for my surgery . His office has been so uncommunicative so I really don't know what to expect and I already made plans through this week . I have a retirement party this Thursday and I'm having a small BBQ on Saturday. If the pre-op diet is only a week I will keep my date of the 16th and start my pre-op on Sunday. If he wants 2 weeks then I'll have to push my date back a week or so . He's been on vaca for the last month so he probably has surgeries backed up. I will refuse to wait until Sept. though. I have family and friends coming in October and November. I want to be past all the liquid diets and mushie stages because I have not shared with everyone that I'm being banded. My appt. is on the 3rd so I'll know definitely then. The best to all having their surgeries this week and be sure to come back and give us the blow by blow ...inquiring minds want to know.
  5. I understand your dilemma but be positive. If the surgery is something that you really need all you can do is go for it while you can and follow all of your Dr's rules and work the band to the best of your ability. Hopefully, like most you will have the surgery and everything will go smoothly. What are the alternatives? if you feel you need the surgery and you were approved if you change your mind now once you start your new job will you be able to diet and lose all the weight you want on your own? Will you be able to pay for the fills on your own? Your young you have youth on your side. If it was me I would go for it and get this over now. However, in the long run you have to do what you feel most comfy with. I wish you the best.
  6. Ummmm Yeah !!! at bolded I would not want them to be distracted while doing any type of tinkering on me. Pay attention Doc!!
  7. That seems low but I don't know about too low. You need to go to your Dr. ASAP You may be able to stop the meds altogether. That's a good thing. I can't wait to be off mine.
  8. That happened to me the last time I lost weight. I was down 50lbs and I woke up 1 morning to use the bathroom and promptly fainted dead away at the foot of my bed. Unfortunately, I broke my ankle in the fall so I had to go to the ER. When I got there my pressure was so low it didn't even register on the cuff. So I was admitted for thorough testing and had to stay about 4 days. Since that time I have gained back all the weight and it bought friends and my BP is up again. I hope to get to the point where my BP is back under control again but we can all do w/o the fainting and passing out.
  9. I hope you get a big surprise when you finally weigh yourself but if not don't let it discourage you. The journey has just begun. Don't forget to let us know how everything went . We want to know all the details. All the best to you. Dee
  10. Wow, you're having surgery on Sunday!! I wish you the very best. I'm sure you will come through with flying colors. Please, don't forget to come on and tell us how it went and how you feel. We are all so anxious for our surgeries and want to know every detail of what's going on with others. I'm not computer savvy either and I'm still trying to get used to my new MacBook pro :rolleyes2: so just jump in and do your best. We'll be thinking about you tomorrow, or I should say later on today.
  11. I really don't know. I guess we will have more insight as we are all banded and really are in the fight. My honest initial thought is that it seems that some work harder at it than others. I have emotional eating problems and I'm afraid too that when I hit a bump that I will find a way to work around the band and indulge myself, especially in the first few months when I may not have much restriction. My hope is to jump in and be at goal by this time next year. I know in my heart that I will be so disappointed if this time next year I'm saying well I lost 40 lbs but I'm happy about that. Not after having surgery. I know that is a victory in itself so I don't need anyone to come in and tell me that . I think that there are people that lose slower than others but I've seen on these forums that it really has nothing to do with age or how much people have to lose. I really don't know!! I wonder how others feel.
  12. I don't mean any harm....but I just read the thread for the August 2009 bandsters. I am even more determined to work this band. I will not go through major surgery and not meet my goals. None of them are failures, there have only been a few responses so far but I want to be down more than 30-40lbs by this time next year. I know that it is much easier said than done but I have to be determined to work this band.
  13. Hey Shadena, Spend the weekend reading the lap band forums , checking out the very encouraging YouTube vids of the successful lap banders and window shopping the internet of all the clothes you want to wear when you reach your goal . I've been on the net 24/7 since my date is coming up in August finally and the time flies. I have gotten so many good tips and encouragement from YT. I just can't wait to put it all into action. Join us in the August rush 2010 thread so that we all can keep up with each other through this journey. PM me if you'd like, girl I'm gonna be home most of the weekend let's talk or I should say type!! Dee
  14. I know not addressed to me but just in case...go on Amazon.com and search weight loss surgery and you will find a lot of books including after WLS cookbooks . You will find a few there.

    I am banded!!!!!!

Good for you!! No sarcasm, really. I'm in NY the only thing I will get free will be the bill Sad but true!! This will be my travel pillow. If I by some small chance I get one at the hospital that will be my hubby's travel pillow.
  17. Hey all just checking in for today. i am getting so anxious for my surgery date. Time goes so fast now but it seems like 8/16 is about 2 months from now. My surgeons staff is so negligent that I have not heard from them so I don't know if I should be starting my pre-op diet on Monday or not but since I don't know I'm not going to push it. I already booked a luncheon on the 3rd to Celebrate someone's retirement and I'm not going to back out on her. They don't know I'm being banded. If I have to do the 2 weeks I will start that afternoon and if he has to put it off until the next Monday (he only operates on Mondays) that'll be fine because I want to do my pre-op dieting without a smitch of cheating. We'll see!!

    I am banded!!!!!!

Thanks Tracy, I just ordered one. It looks really good and I like that it has a carrying case.
  19. Kelly, go into your user CP at top of screen left hand side and then scroll down to edit signature and type it in your siggy. Use a bigger font and bold, it's all right there. You can put all that other stuff in your siggy!! I've been trying to do a ticker for months and for some reason can't get it yet. I'm really computer illiterate.
  20. I know you want it bad. Immerse yourself in what your doing for yourself. That's why I'm on here all day. I also loved checking out the vids on Youtube..talk about encouragement. There is a great inspiration on there , her name is skymoon1982. She's about your age and did the pre-op liquid diet through Christmas and New Years without a smitch of cheating. Check out BandedWendy too she just made goal and is getting married.
  21. No problem. I have been researching so long and going through so much I almost feel like an expert. I feel like I've wasted years too. I wish I had known of this years ago or at least started 3 years ago when my PCP first recommended it instead of thinking I could do this on my own. We'll get there . Let us know what your insurance says.

    I am banded!!!!!!

Hey , me too 8/16 come and join us in the August rush 2010 thread.
  23. It's not the Surgeons call it's your insurance so call them and see if they require you to have 6 month med. supervised diet. If not you don't have to worry about that at all. I have BC/BS of NY and they required it. You can do that with your PCP (I did) or sometimes the surgeon has a Dr. they can refer you to. If in the last couple of years or so you've been to a Dr and he has recorded your weight or you've been on a diet that can document you for 6 consecutive months they may accept that too. Oh and a BMI of 47 is very high . That's considered extremely obese. That is my BMI and I was approved. I wish you well.
  24. It will pass . Look back at some of your very recent posts and remember how anxious you were to be approved and to be right where your at now. If none of the above suggestions work take a nice shower and turn in early. Tomorrow will be a better day. When I get to this point that is exactly what I will be doing when the going get's rough.
  25. I like that too but the originator of the idea suggested "August rush" and I see you've already adopted it come join us in the new thread.
