    Master Cleanse Lemonade Diet

This sounds like the advertisement of what they promise it will do. The doctor I went to was a specialist and said these cleanses are not good for you, they can cause more harm than good. I would ask a doctor.... and not the "doctor" promoting the cleanse.

    depressed as nothing changes

I think I asked above, why are you doing x-ray instead of fluor. The doctor should be able to see the port under fluro too. I dont understand why he is feeling around, doesnt he have fluro in his office or access to it. I had fluro yesterday and you can see everything, the port, the band around my stomach, the barium going down thru the lapband into my stomach (gross). You could see the port quite clearly.
  3. I had my first fill which didnt go perfectly. I didnt have it in writing that I needed from my surgeon the max fill my band would hold and they doubted I had a 10 cc band as I understood I had. So, first she put in 3 cc, then took it out and I think I wound up with 1.8 cc. Then I drank the barium and it made me sick to my stomach and then I almost fainted, if I hadnt laid down. The fill and fluro were done standing up. I cant tell I have any more resistance than I had before my fill, but I do feel better that my port is where it should be. Im also 1 lb up from what I weighed Friday morning, not sure if I am a little swollen or something or just not eating as well. The fill was more of a experience than I expected. I was banded July 9th, so Im about 5 weeks plus post op now. At least tomorrow I can eat regular food again.
  4. I flew home from Juarez a day early, that did wear me out. I was on a IV for 24 hours, but my doctor only gave me 2 days of pain meds. I thought he was stingy with the pain meds, but since I wasnt hurting that much he wouldnt give me extras. I said they help me sleep at night, but nope. I could have stayed in a hotel room that night, it was paid for already but was ready to get home where folks spoke english (I know thats probably mean to say).
  5. I was never given a limit, just sample meals, I know some who eat 1 cup, some who eat 1/2 cup and some who eat more and it works for them. Iv been having 3 strips of turkey bacon and one fried egg and it works for me, I need the extra Protein. Thats still less than 200 calories for Breakfast. Just got my first fill and trying to determine if I can feel any restriction, but I dont think so. They did remind me that if I ate more than 20 grams of protein at a time, the rest would be wasted, the body can only absorb 20 grams of protein at once. I have been trying to do lots of fish to up the protein. As long as you watch the carbs/sugar intact and eat lots of protein to fuel muscle and fat burning you will lose. Im not eating bread but rarely, doing low calories veggies and shrimp or fish or sometimes chicken. I dont lose as well on chicken because it has more calories for the amount of protein. I would love to wave a majic wand but I know for me this works. When you arent restricted try for protein because you wouldnt get as hungry in between times.
  6. low gi diets, the gi stands for glycemic (sp?) index. Its based on sugar being 100, and how long it takes to digest the food. The lowest food is no sugar or artifically sweetened yogurt, and cottage cheese is good. You can have two 100 calories protein or low fat dairy snacks a day, look at the labels for the highest protein varieties. I eat lots of fish. Im struggling to lose too, and need to do all I can to help it along. Foods that take longer to digest go lower and trigger enzymes that make you feel full and more satisfied, hence you are supposed to eat whole grains, cereal, rice, pasta etc. Go easy though on carbs, they are a side item and not the main course etc. You can have fruit once a day, but I try to skip the fruit, too much sugar. low gi fruits are apples, stone fruits like peaches and berries.
  7. Strange, when I lived in Hawaii, I started with a staph infection I picked up working in a restaurant, then they treated me for 6 months with bottles for scabies, then they decided I had foliculitis too. Odd coincidence. My skin is still not completely normal, but Iv always had sensistive skin. I know to lose weight I had to do a low gi type diet, where my insulin isnt peaking and falling. I went to the library and got free books on low gi eating, there are some really good ones and also on southbeach which is a low gi type diet. I honestly thought I couldnt lose because I wasnt losing on any other diet, but I lost over 80 lbs on eating low gi, but put it all back on (hence the need for lapband now). Iv lost over the 20 lbs you need to lose and Im almost your age with sugar and insulin issues which make losing much harder. You may not be able to lose on a diet which counts calories like weight watchers. I lost some weight before my surgery and had a easy surgery and have no restriction at all, I can eat anything, but I am walking a lot. Can you walk?? You could spur your metabolism by walking, even if you do it in your living room with leslie's walk at home tapes. We know you can do it. We are here to keep you on tract so you can lose those 20 lbs and get the surgery scheduled. I finally get my first fill tomorrow, but have no clue if it will give me some restriction and make dieting easier or not, Im doing it with will power up until now.

    depressed as nothing changes

Just curious as I seem to have a loose port too. Is your fill doctor doing the fills under fluor?? I thought thats what fluor did, was show the port so the doctor didnt have to prod and poke. My fill doctor says even if the port turned 90 degrees, she can still get to it, even if its a little harder that way.

My port is shifting too, even though my doctor says it cant be shifting, he stitched it under two inches of fat. I am getting filled (I hope if they can get to the port) tomorrow under fluro to look at the port. I woke up one night and knew the port had moved and immediately felt for it ..... and there it was. Wasnt there before so I could just feel the edges of it. Im feeling like tomorrow will never get here so I know whats up and if its turned too much or what. The fill doctor Im seeing, only does fills every other Sat in one of two cities, so I have been waiting since last week to go see her.... Tomorrow is finally almost here so I will know.
  10. Any weight starting with a 1.... 100 to 199 lbs. Meaning someone dropped below the 200 lbs mark. There is a thread of folks who are hitting or almost hitting Onederland. I was at 212 lbs this morning, 13 lbs to go.

in need of advice--thinking about surgery

Im not one of the cheerleaders, but I got the surgery in Mexico like you are thinking of. So, I may not have the answers you want. The lapband will help you eating too much at one time and give you a feeling of not being as hungry. I dont think it will stop emotional eating, or grazing or eating the wrong food choices. Ice cream slides right down as they say. Im a grazer, not a over eater. Lots of us have issues with food that go back to your parents. Its hard to put behind you, but now that you know why you eat, hopefully you can. With the lapband you can still eat continually, grazing I call it. You can still make bad food choices. I talked to someone who didnt have diabetes when she got the band but gained weight on it and now has diabetes. You are young, age 28. If you continue to eat bad foods, you could have insulin issues later on in life. Im twice your age, I didnt have problems either at your age with sugar, now I do. I think you need to do more soul searching if this is the right WLS for you. You have to do a lot of work to make the lapband tool work for you. All its going to do is make you feel fuller, not stop emotional eating (which Im guilty of too, I eat even when Im not hungry).

    Countdown to Onederland!

Amazing progress. I see stats like this and realize I am not losing as fast as most people. You were only banded a week before me and already in Onederaland??!! Hip hip horay!!!! I wasnt on liquids very long, went on mushys for 4 weeks, maybe why you are 8 lbs ahead of me. Telling myself it is obviously possible to get there before my cruise, but I doubt I can get there in 3 weeks what you have done in only one extra week from me. A amazing week for me is 2 lbs right now, the pounds come of like glue. I lost good for 2 weeks then slowed up. congrats you are doing amazing.

    Countdown to Onederland!

Im at 213 lbs, have a cruise coming up in 3 weeks, just about when I should be getting to spitting distance of Onederland. I sure hope I dont gain 7 lbs on the cruise like I did on one cruise when I had been dieting beforehand. Getting a fill this Sat and telling doctor I need to be tight enough to survive a cruise!!! Still pushing for Onederland. Congrats to everyone who has made it.
  14. My short term goal is Onederland, anything less I guess is not a big deal. I was already walking about a mile and a half a day before surgery, but upped it now to twice a day pretty often, and looking at increasing the distance once it cools off here in Dallas, this morning was just too hot. What's the problem?? I have a cruise in 3 weeks, last cruise I put on 7 lbs. At the rate Im going it would take me over a month to relose the weight. I have a fill this Sat, but my port seems to have moved, so Im also worried why am I feeling my port all the sudden since last Fri? Did the stitches come lose where he sewed it down? Im really walking a lot now, hoping to get into a size 18 jean dress, that is too tight around my belly to zip up right now. I sure would love to be able to bring it on my cruise. I can wiggle into it now, but I cant come close to zipping it up. So, my goals are the size 18 jean dress by cruise time and Onederland.

    Yes!!!!!

I could have stayed in a hotel an extra day, went to Mexico to be banded, but came home the day after surgery. Went thru waiting over 3 hours for my plane, the plane right, having to carry my own luggage, putting my own shoes back on, the trying to find where to meet my shuttle in a airport I was unfamiliar with in the dark, stopping on the way home (over an hour's drive) at the grocery store for some broth. If I can do that a day after having surgery late the afternoon before, you could go back to school. Im also 57 years old which is a factor in getting more tired than you probably will be. Yes, it hurt to bend over and I was very tired, but you could conceivable sit in class if it was important to do so, skip whatever class wasnt so important.

    Lap Band vs. Realize

I could choose either, and went with the older band, just because I thought they would have more experience in filling it and I would be finding a different fill doctor than my surgeon and didnt want to run into problems. I have already had a problem with the port moving I think.... will know for sure sat. It suddenly was right below my skin and the doctor said he stitched it 2 inches under the fat. Took 4 weeks to pop up, doctor said impossible, but I can feel it. woke up in bed and knew it had moved, lets just hope the port hasnt flipped. Have a fill appointment under fluor to check it in 2 days.

    Is this a good idea.

As long as you are able to document the diet, it should count, make sure your doctor can also help document it if you need it for insurance. personally, I have insuline/sugar issues and find weight watchers isnt a good diet for me. It counts calories and groups of food, but I needed a lower sugar/carbs to lose weight. Counting calories just decreased my metabolism after a while. I do much better on a low gi diet, nutrisystem, southbeach are two well known name brand low gi diets. I read a book and did it on my own. The book really helped me understand what was low gi and the theory behind the diet. Im not a big fan of weight watchers, but I know it works for some people.
  18. I think it boils down to age and genes. I know I will have loose skin. I lost over 80 lbs on nutrisystem. Once you are past menopause, the skin just isnt as elastic and the more past it you are the worst in the majority of cases, there are always exceptions. I went thru menopause about age 40 and Im turning 58 next month and I know I would have to have complete body surgery to feel good about how I look. My stomach sagged, my under arms sagged and the skin near my neck got wrinkly when I lost, so I look ridiculous in a sleeveless dress or tee shirt. The skin on my upper legs also showed the cellulite and hung loose. Pretty awful. And I only lost a little over 80 lbs and then I gained it all back, so I know it wouldnt be better since I stretched out my skin again. Age is a big determining factor, lets be honest. If you are 20 or 30 you probably woudlnt have saggy skin, odds are.

    Very Impatient!!!

The only doctor I know of that makes you wait 3 months is a doctor who started that policy now for those banded in Mexico. I think he has too many patients now and this way he is avoiding any complications from other doctors. My fill doctor I picked has a 5 week minimum wait.
  20. Im having my first fill this Sat, and waiting to see what the fill doctor says I can have afterwards, as far as mushys or liquids or what. Iv been pretty good, but you are down more than I am. Looks like we started about the same BMI too. Im anxious for my first fill, it feels like my port moved, so Im worrying, cant wait for Sat to get here and hoping the port just move up and not flipped.

    HELP!!! Im not losing...

I am insulin resistant, and wouldnt be surprised if I had PCOS when I was younger. I really watch my carbs. If I eat hardly any fruit or carbs I dont lose. Im really pushing the fish. I try to eat very few carbs, because they cause your insulin to spike and you can gain weight just from the excess insulin in your body. Im walking twice a day now and watching it and only losing about 1 lb a week as hard as Im trying. I have a fill this Sat.
  22. I have read on another message board that you can be filled more than 4 CC with that band. That the tubing holds extra, so that they can actually fill you past the 4 cc mark. (someone else had no restriction at 4 CC). It seems to be a misconception that you can only put in 4CC.

Think this is ok to eat?

I did reply to your question. I said I can eat anything. There is nothing I can eat. Iv even had subs from subway at this point, well we split a footlong 4 ways, but I can eat bread or any food Iv tried. I asked you if you have a list of what your doctor considers soft chewable and if bread was on that list, still dont know, or if you just decided it fit the criteria. Im confused and give up. Good luck to you. I wish you luck and wasnt trying to be argumentative, just to clear up my own confusion about what you mean when you say its ok with your doctor. He said bread specifically is a soft chewable food or not? Beats me. Unless you are one who had a prefill or you had a lot of swelling from the surgery, you should have no trouble eating any food at this time.

Think this is ok to eat?

I have no restriction, my first fill is next saturday. As the poster above explained, its not that you are unable to eat things now, its that they could cause slippage of your band, thats why its not allowed. There were no foods I was unable to eat from the time I got my surgery. I went thru a airport the day after surgery and not having that Mexican meal because I wasnt allowed, about killed me, but you can bet I could have easily eaten it. I just dont want slippage. Im already concerned, my port moved last Friday. My surgeon says impossible and I called the fill doctor and she said as long as its only 90 degrees, she can get to the port, and Iv been following orders. You asked us if we thought that was ok to eat, but you have obviously made up your mind if you can eat it, then it doesnt matter if its not allowed. Im worried about slippage and have read you need to take care of your band after surgery, so later down the line you dont have trouble with it. I did have a taco, a week or so more down the line from where you are. I was still supposed to be on mushys for 4 weeks. Like you I could eat anything, but that wasnt my doctor's orders.

Think this is ok to eat?

Its unusual to be allowed bread 2 weeks past surgery. The fact that its soft bread, its still bread. If your surgeon has bread on the list, then not sure why you are asking us? Im just saying its very unusual to be allowed bread so early, but as we know every doctor is different.
