Update… I have lost the 5 vacation lbs as well as 2 extra this week. This breaks the stall I was on before vacation. I am so grateful. Hoping to continue on towards my goal. Getting closer, yay!

Very Impressive! Did you find that it helped to fill in loose skin?

I am 7 months post VSG and 2 months post Lap cholecystectomy. We are on vacation at a resort so I am having a few cocktails here and there. I have to say I do not notice any difference in my alcohol tolerance now compared to before surgeries. I guess that is a good thing. I only drink on vacations and occasionally at home when we go to dinner/ party with friends. This week I am trying to balance enjoying my vacation with keeping an eye on the empty calories from cocktails etc. Planning to get back to tracking when I get home.

To those who had a very easy recovery...
Jaye W replied to AngieL11282's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Real food definitely felt different at first. I got over mourning the loss to eat a big volume. Once the weight loss kicks in I started to enjoy the ability to control my portions more than the desire to eat large portions. I also try to figure out healthy substitutes for things I miss. 20 lbs in 4 weeks is amazing.. it will really start to add up if you stay focused and on track. Keep strong! -
To those who had a very easy recovery...
Jaye W replied to AngieL11282's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have always thought to myself this is too easy… I had vsg 2/24/21 I am down 80 lbs since surgery and 104 lbs overall since 10/31/20. Some of it is luck and some of it I feel is good choices and embracing the lifestyle changes as well as mindset. I listen to a few wls podcasts and belong to a few wls groups. I go to support meetings offered by my surgeon’s office and spend a lot of time researching. Celebrate the NSVs and keep making new goals. Tracking helps me meet my goals, measuring everything helps me learn proper portions. Walking and weightlifting are also contributing to my weight loss. I did have 1 hiccup- gall bladder had to come out 5 months after vsg- but I did have a history of gallstones and the rapid weight loss probably was what caused my gall bladder to become inflamed. Hoping it continues to feel easy and I can stay on track for the long term. -
Good job congrats!

How much are you hydrating? I agree not to look at the calories burned by exercise- not accurate- just generalization. Maybe talk to your Nut about increasing your protein

Congrats!

Here are pics from my vacation exactly one year ago ( The first three in the Yellow shirt) and from my vacation last week. I had my first consult with my surgeon about 3 weeks after I got home from vacation last year. What a difference a year makes!

Well I made it home from vacay and was 5 LBS heavier.. Can't imagine how much more it would have been if i did not exercise in the am while on vacation. I have already lost 2 of those pounds since getting home Sunday. I am not going to freak out. I am back on track with my program/tracking. I made a choice to relax my food choices a bit and have some dessert while away and also drank some cocktails which is a rare thing for me to do at home.

Alcohol really no different

That makes sense. I guess I forgot to notice if people were talking about VSG or RNY when they were talking about it. -
Do/should you eat to restriction?
Jaye W replied to AngieL11282's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My way of thinking is do not eat to restriction. The restriction to me is a warning signal you have eaten too much. I measure food so I can learn what 2-4 oz of different foods looks like. I think that will help in the future to keep portion sizes reasonable. -
Congrats on your good work!

I have been giving away my clothes too ( 3X and 2x). I have a friend who is a single Mom and thought she would appreciate not having to spend money. I had lots of professional clothes from when I had a Management job as well as special occasion etc. I find it very cathartic cleaning out the closets. I did keep 1 pair of 3x jeans as a reference point of where I started and 1-2 of my favorite 3x dressy blouses just in case. I kept all of my hoodies since I like to wear them bigger and they can go over layers now. I gave away around 8 boxes of clothes so far. I am keeping anything 1x and below for now. Currently wearing a Medium top and size 8 or 10 pants. Not sure if this will be my lowest point or not - almost 7 months post sleeve and down 108 lbs from my heaviest weight of 264. I too felt like the clothes were a security blanket and they needed to go.
-
I can attest to that- I am 6.5 months post sleeve. I had 2 mules last night at a dinner party- I woke up in the middle of the night with charley horse in my calves. I had adequate hydration for the day. Luckily I keep a glass of ice water next to the bed at night.

I just threw this together and it was really good! Premier protein Vanilla shake 1/3 cup canned pumpkin 1 tsp pumpkin pie spice 6 ice cubes Blend until ice is crushed 31 g protein 12 g carbs 3 g fat

One week post-op — feeling hunger
Jaye W replied to imhenryxvi's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I think I remember some on here saying that what they thought was hunger was acid production in the stomach. . Did your surgeon prescribe omaprazole? . I think I recall people saying that helped them. Also I agree with others that you may feel more restriction/ less hunger after you are further along. It could also be what people call head hunger- get your fluids in and continue with the plan. You will get used to it. -
Covid Post Op and Weight Loss Stalled
Jaye W replied to Soon2bFit21's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I Just stick with your program as long as doctor says it is ok. The added stress of having COVID could be affecting you too. -
Look into a juva bun- inexpensive - can wrap it around a bun to add volume

Post VSG Hair Loss
Jaye W replied to Rey Rodriguez's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a juva bun that I wear for work - pull my hair into a bun and wrap it around the bun. I had it from before surgery for convenience since I usually pull my hair back for work. It is pretty inexpensive and I get lots of compliments when I wear it. You should look into one.
