  1. If he can climb in the car, could he perhaps climb onto the seat in the car, then into his car seat? Can you make a game of it? Maybe hold your belly with one forearm, and hold his hand with the other? I wish you all the best, single parents are super mom's/ dad's.....x
  2. Before surgery: - after day 2 or 3 it will become MUCH easier - watch the constipation - start taking your multi vitamins - you might suffer mood swings with sudden changes to sugar and caffeine levels After surgery: - TRUST the process - get some anti constipation meds, coloxyl, movicol etc as a precaution if needed - that damnes gas pain hurts like hell. Walk walk walk....and fart. - oh, don't trust that farts will be dry.... - water may not sit well on its own in your belly, try half water and half apple juice - Don't cheat , you will pay dearly for it... trust me - sleep may be disturbed for the first week, catch cat naps when you can - Don't rush anything, you will hurt in your belly or become exhausted quickly - get some scar minimising cream it works wonders - you may wake up one morning and believe you are back to 100%. Stay on course as per your surgeons advice.
  3. Jeepers a few rough responses there. I thought the initial post was a bit humerous....

    Feeling vulnerable.

Well good for you!!! And good luck for your surgery. X
  5. Sorry, warning of embarrassment ahead. I am day 25 post surgery and all has gone pretty well. The only issue I have is a huge increase of wind, with no smell at all, but in large amounts at a time. I can rival hubby and win hands down!! Is this normal for anyone else? I don't have belly pain, and I eat very slowly and chew everything to a paste. The food consumed is on a teaspoon and I don't use a straw to drink. I've stayes away from wind causing foods, onions, cabbage, beans etc and eat a very rounded and healthy diet. The weight is coming off as expected, and everything else is good (with the exception of number twos, once a week only). Does anyone else suffer this embarrassing problem? Mind you, I think I am my step kids hero....even they can't outdo me!!

    Flatulence

I raised the constipation with my dietician today and she said definitely coloxyl with henna every second day. I am moving on to more "normal" foods next week too, so more bulk should help

    Flatulence

It's strange, I can't burp. I feel like I want to sometimes, but I can't and have to sit upright while it bubbles up and releases. The farts are massive, long, loud and odorless thank god. It's kind of funny, but will get embarrassing soon I can just see it. [emoji16][emoji16][emoji16]
  8. Have you considered taking a 3 month course of probiotics? It will eliminate the bacteria in your intestines being the issue. I would speak with your doctor as well. It might be a course of antibiotics is needed if you have an out of control bacteria in your gut.
  9. I am always interested in the comments on expected calorie intake. I am of the opinion this is a marathon and not a sprint. I am just over 3 weeks post op and I am changing my weighing to once a month, with even a small loss being a win. My dietician and surgeon both said eating is now for nutrition and not hunger. They have given me guidelines that I stick with. If in doubt, have another check in with your dietician to get advice and let them know your concerns.
  10. This is totally tasteless and dissolves well in cold or warm food/liquid

    Coffee

Doc said nothing about coffee. I tried a small white coffee within the first week and it was all ok. I'm now back to my 2 to 3 cups a day. Be careful, caffeine is a diuretic meaning you pee more which takes moisture from your body . I would only drink coffee on days I exceeded my target liquid intake.

    Time off work

I had the sleeve and only took a week. Big mistake. My energy levels were shocking. I work from home now (since covid) so I scheduled a daily rest between 12pm and 1.30pm. It made the world of difference. I am 23 days post surgery and still get moments of exhaustion.
  13. I'm not sure anyone could answer that, unless they have had the same illnesses you have had. Blimey you've had a hard time. Just the Covid after effects can last month's, so the only suggestion I have is be as nutritous as you can, get your fluid and protein levels right, and sleep. The very best of luck while you heal. X
  14. I felt exactly the same, until I started on purees....don't worry, liquid is fine. I can't take huge mouthfuls, but liquid doesn't have any negative impact on me at all now and I'm getting lots of it in every day. My skin is VERY thankful for it, so is my toilet time....sorry TMI....you DON'T want the constipation believe me.

    Coffee

Oh you are in Canberra, I am on the Gold Coast. If you go to Coles, they have an Avalanche Caramel Latte. Very low in calories and might be a little gentler on your tummy. I have one a day, and I also drink black coffee (the Robert Timms bags) and I am day 18 post surgery. No issues at all. I would probably get a thermal cup when you first start on coffee though, and take it super slowly to see how your belly reacts.

    Self Pay PNW?

Holy crap! That's about 45k Australian! I paid 16k fully funded including blood tests etc. Perhaps fly down here to get it done. I went to Pindara Private Hospital and had the very best care...
  17. Yesterday was my post op check up with the surgeon and it went well.  He is happy with my progress and I don't need to see him for 6 months.  I'm at day 17 post op and the only real issue I have had is severe constipation.  Warning, TMI coming up.....

So I have been number twos three times since surgery.  Twice it was tiny, third time was just an absolute crisis.  Crying, sweating, it was right there....just so horribly hard and dry.  I had to get pessaries and take Coloxyl.  Holy crap (pardon the pun) when she finally made it through, she was a stubby whopper.  I drink 2 litres a day, I have stopped taking the protein powder and don't take huge amounts of multi vitamins.  I am on puree now so having weetbix (an Australian/NZ breakfast biscuit) and veges for lunch and dinner.  I am going to look for some tea that helps with the issue, I simply can't go through that again.  It was two days ago and I still feel bruised.   I am not exercising much so will need to increase that too, I just don't want to be taking laxatives as a habit.

Aside from that my only bug bear is the draw to the scales every day.  I'm going to get my hubby to remove them and hide them from me and only weigh once a week to ensure I'm staying on track.  I'm still seeing losses all the time, but I'm becoming so focused on that I forget that the scales are only one part of the journey, my wellbeing is the other.

My son and his fiance are coming up from Melbourne this weekend and arrive tomorrow.  I haven't seen them both since Covid and I've missed them terribly.  I have some fun things organised, but I just can't wait to hug my first born and tell him how much I love him.

    Happy Friday-eve from down under.

I had a very similar experience. Twice. It was awful and a bit traumatizing, frankly. I thought I was going to have to take Miralax everyday for the rest of my life, but I can happily say that being 5.5 months out, things are fairly regular and I haven't had to take Miralax in over a month. I always make sure to get plenty of water, which has helped. Exercise will definitely help you in that department, too. Even just getting a walk in everyday will be good for your bowels. :)

Wish you the best on your journey!

    Difficulty with vomiting

I found half and half apple juice and water so much easier on the stomach, no pain and settled the nausea.

    January 2021 anyone?

Believe me, the pre op diet gets easier by the day. Good luck for your surgery. [emoji16]

    January 2021 anyone?

I promise it gets better very quickly

    Coffee

I had coffee within the first week. I usually drink it black but started with a dash of milk in it. I had surgery 2 weeks ago tomorrow and I am back to black coffee already.

    30 second elevator interview

I'm a 48y/o mum of 2 adult sons and 2 pre-teen stepsons, working in IT on the sunny Gold Coast in Australia. I'm direct but compassionate, very focused on my goals, a bit of a larrakin, and place the utmost importance on our family unit, and showing care for other people.

    So. Much. Burping.

Warning, TMI..... I have belched and burped since surgery, and have a lot of flatulence. Thank god it doesn't smell, but I have to be careful it isn't a little moist..... sorry. As for bowel movements....two very small, extremely hard and painful motions onky, in 11 days. Sigh....

4-5 weeks post food consumption yucky feel

Great suggestion. I struggle with my last meal, so I might try this tonight from 6pm and take a couple of hours to sip through it.
  25. 10 Days post op.  Wow, what a journey so far.

Pre op was straightforward, over the Christmas and New Year period but I was ok with that.

Day of op, pretty stunned really, was I doing the right thing.  A quick nervous wee before I was put under and VOILA...done.

Day 1 and 2 post was a freaking mess.  Mentally that is.  Lots of questions, lots of doubts, lots of fear.....then day 3 came and bingo I felt so much better, about 80%.

Skip to Day 10.  I am feeling pretty satisfied most of the time, not really hungry.  My skin is amazing.  The weight is literally dropping off but I'm under no disillusionment that this will slow considerably shortly.  I have started to experiment with different liquids and found I absolutely despise liquidised meat.   YUCK.

My belly scars are almost gone, but they have left a little lump and they can be tender.  I wouldn't call it sore.

I am managing to get my protein up just over 60g a day, but that's with the help of two scoops of protein powder in my liquid meals.  Drinking sitting directly upright is my only comfortable option which is ok, and I've learned to love jelly/jello.

Biggest changes?  Confidence.  Libido (yep, it's back with a vengeance after being dormant for about 5 years).  Energy increase.  Clothes starting to fit better.

Biggest disappointment?  I really don't have anything to be disappointed about except I didn't do it sooner.

Biggest surprise?  How quickly I have recovered and am seeing results.

    🙂

Wow congrats! You sound like your doing amazing.

I am in tomorrow morning for lapband and hoping for the same kind of recovery. I am not even going down the road of liquid meat 🤢.

Can I ask what you had done?

I had the sleeve done on 4th Janyary. No regrets whatsoever.
