Anyone for Jan/ Feb 2021
Betty1971 replied to ChiNaDoll2285's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can actually get an adult powdered Tylenol that works amazing! It’s low in sugar and tastes pretty decent. The children’s liquid is so sugary it’s hard to get down. Amazon and Walmart carry it -
Weight stall - Insight/Encouragement needed
Betty1971 replied to kelclrk's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I know this sounds odd but if you measured yourself before measure yourself now or during a stall ! When I went through my stall I was bummed out, then I measured myself and realized I had lost 19 inches. Sometimes you may not drop pounds but you may be losing inches when you are not losing pounds!! Try it, you may be surprised -
I cannot tell from your info when you had surgery and such...its super common to have stalls. When did you have surgery and what surgery did you have?

What does full feel like?
Betty1971 replied to RTL1234's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can tell I am full when I take a bit and when I swallow it, it does not want to go down. It almost is like my throat closes off, I know that sounds silly but I can take a bite and everything is fine and the next bite its like the door is closed. I actually keep a napkin and if it feels like its going to be tough to get down I will spit it in a napkin and just be done. If I force it my chest gets tight and I am absolutely miserable, I can go from being comfortable to miserable in one bite. -
I found a tea that seems to really work in a short order with constipation. I am not a fan of Smooth Move and my friend introduced me to a homemade ginger tea but it was a lot of work and I didnt always have the ingredients around for it. I am always trying things on amazing Amazon and tried this one and in about three hours you could say I had "large results" !! I did not get cramps or super bloated from it. Highly recommend it https://www.amazon.com/Pink-Stork-Constipation-Biodegradable-Discomfort/dp/B07CGKDFJY/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?dchild=1&keywords=herbal+tea+constipation&qid=1610057781&sr=8-2-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEyMUNWTFpaVUYxMFlSJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwMjQ1NTA1SjM1Skk5SlJKTkdWJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTAxMTc2MTYyRllZNEo0QlkzRzVQJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfYXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==

Have you ever considered maybe writing this down. Maybe your calling is writing? I had a pretty rough child hood and went to counseling and psych Drs and all kinds of situations and in the end I wrote and I wrote and a friend read what I wrote and recommended I send it to a publisher and I laughed at her because I never thought of writing a book. I have since wrote two books. I no longer struggle with my childhood demons and now I have the strength to get ahold of my weight issues as well. Maybe writing about your food addictions and getting healthy will help you realize how to get back on track. Not saying you have to send it into publishers or anything but if you want to you never know!!!! People need to know about the struggles of WLS. WLS is not a magic trick, its super hard work and dedication. You will get on track but think about writing, your honesty and writing style is super nice reading.

Skin/Red Face 11 days post op
Betty1971 replied to rachelblank1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
sometimes dehydration an cause a person to flush and become red and splotchy and angry. It seems a little off but think about when a baby is sick and dehydrated, how red and dry their little faces get, same with adults. Are you getting enough fluids? -
Post Op Diet - Week 3 of Liquid Diet
Betty1971 replied to Pointer1984's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
First of all do not panic. You are in the famous three week stall, it can come anytime but week three is the famous "three week stall" you can google it. You cannot work your way out of it, it just happens and your not doing anything at all wrong, it will pass. Second, I found that warm things were much better for me that cold or even sweet things. But remember this is just a stage, it will pass super quick and before you know it you will be on to the next stage and this will just be a memory. Try not to hurry on to the next stage, you may feel ready and you may be healed up on the outside but you cannot see the incisions or the surgical sites on the inside and you just had major surgery. Its important to let that stuff heal the way it needs to. Proper healing is very important for long term success!! So just go with the misery of the full liquids for the time and choke down the soups and the protein shakes until you get the go ahead to move on to the next stage and before you know it you will be eating regular foods (at a much smaller portion) Try drinking a warm bone broth when you think your hungry, they are high in protein and will fill you up and count towards protein and liquid. They also will leave you feeling full longer than a regular broth -
4-5 weeks post food consumption yucky feel
Betty1971 replied to postsleeve120320's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am only 6 weeks post op but I know exactly what you are saying. My best advice is this. Remember this is just a stage and it will be over quickly!!! Eggs, cottage cheese and bone broth saved me and got me through the rough spot. I kind of gagged my way through the soft and pureed business and when I got into the regular food it was amazing. The first few days were a little trial and error but its all good now. Just remember that that protein number is just a goal and the sky isn't going to fall if you don't hit it, you try again the next day. All these stages are just stages and pretty soon they will all be a memory and you will be moving on to regular foods in just smaller quantities. I have tried to eat some foods and they just do not sit right with me, foods that I have loved in the past. I cannot eat bread at all. Not white, wheat or anytype that I have tried so far so I just do not eat breads and I am fine with that. You will try foods and find what work and what do not work and go from there Learning what your body is telling you and listening is the key and it sounds like you are doing that so congrats !! -
Protein and Water Intake 7 Days Post Op
Betty1971 replied to ANewJourneyAwaits's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First thing is remember each step is just a stage. Don't get too hung up on the details. The important thing is to get in your liquid and move around. Protein can come in as protein shakes, cottage cheese, bone broth, at the puree stage you can actually get pretty creative and puree chicken, tuna, eggs just about anything but the main thing is to remember to go slow and take small bites. 70-80 ounces is just a goal and most people don't get close to that at first. Don't get too discouraged or hung up on the numbers. This is just a stage and your still healing. I am 6 weeks out and doing great and there are still days I don't hit my protein goal and have to drink a bone broth or thrown an egg in my meal plan to try to hit it. Everyday gets easier but there are days that things are just tough to hit those goals and that does not mean you failed that just means you shoot for it again tomorrow. -
Awesome!!!

I am wondering if and when your weight loss began slowing down. I know it must start slowing down eventually closer to my goal weight but I am just kind of curious when everyone started to notice it getting harder to get the scale to go down. I am really enjoying the numbers right now but trying to prepare myself for the day when I get on the scale and it isn't so encouraging. Right now I am losing about a pound a day and I am super happy with that, I go back to the Dr on the 6th of January and hopefully will get the go ahead to start working out with a trainer. Right now I am limited to just walking on a treadmill and wearing some silly weights on my ankles and wrists while I walk but really wanting to start doing a bit more weight training. I had a hernia repair and some other minor work done while they did the sleeve so I have to wait the full 6 weeks to do anything more and that is bumming me out but I will get there.....

First of all you will soon find you that it is not the easy way out, so for anyone that says it is they don't understand what you are going through. WLS is just a tool. You will be doing all the work. Don't let others get into your head. You will have enough on your plate (ha ha) so you don't need to worry about what others think. In fact it really isn't even your business what others think. That is truly their business, just let it be. Be excited, your about to set off on a whole new part of your life!!! Get excited!!! We are all here going through this roller coaster together. We have good days and bad days, we have successes and failures but everyone understands because we are all in the same boat. Remember the pre surgical diet and all the stages after surgery are just stages and will pass. They all have there ups and downs and just keep your eye on the healthy body in the end!!!! congrats!!

You can't hide from the stall!
Betty1971 posted a topic in GLP-1 & Other Weight Loss Medications (NEW!)
I tried to hide from the stall but it did not work. On week five I did exactly the same thing I had done the previous weeks that were successful for me and the stall found me. Although I did the same things the darn scale did not move one bit. I walked a little bit more on the treadmill and walked a little faster, I drank a little more water and it still did not move. I just have to believe all you folks who have been here and trust the process, this too shall pass and one day I will get up and do my routine and Sunday when I get on the scale I will see some progress.....right??? LOL I see the surgeon on the 6th of January for my 6 week checkup and I really really wanted to have 50 pounds behind me but I am starting to see now that is going to be impossible. But 40 something isn't a bad number and I just have to be happy with any progress As my husband always says "it is what is it is!" -
I dont know which surgery you had. I had the VSG and to be honest I came home the day after my surgery and I didnt have any pain to speak of. Which surgery did you have?

Protein Problems in Purée Stage
Betty1971 replied to RTL1234's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Just remember its only a stage. Do your best, sip on the protein shakes in between, but it is just a stage. Every single day things will get a little better and soon it will all be in your rear view mirror -
I just had a zoom appointment with my dietitian and I need to vent. I am taking my vitamins, hitting my 80 grams of protein, getting my 90 ounces of water and my labs are coming back good. I am no longer needing my blood pressure meds and my diabetic medications. I thought this was going to be a good job all is well kind of meeting and go about my day. I was just bumped up to regular foods with no restrictions. Well that didn't go as planned. I was instead given a type of menu that looks like trouble to me. There is no way I can eat 800 calories a day right now much less some of the things on this. 800 calories a day just seems pretty high to me??? Anyone else think that a month out when your sleeve is still super restrictive and weight is falling off that 800 calories is a lot?? Am I being a little psycho about this??? My app tells me that I will almost be doubling my intake, right now I am averaging between 400 and 425 a day? I was actually getting more calories in when I was doing just liquids in when I was drinking protein shakes, now I am low on protein I am drinking an extra bone broth for 50 calories instead of the 150 calories in a shake> Anyway, I will do what they tell me I guess since its worked so far but I am freaking out a bit and I really do not know how I will be able to bump up that much without feeling miserable most of the day
