Betty1971 replied to Betty1971's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
UPDATE!!!! I did it!!!! I did it!!!! I did it!!! I literally ran my ass off!!! I had my blood work and weigh in today, I was fasting and I prayed all the way to town!!!! Thank God the weather stayed cool here in North Dakota the last few weeks, I got up in the mornings and ran three miles every morning, came home and ate a scrambled egg, drank bone broth, for lunch I drank another bone broth and chewed on some raw veggies, dinner I ate a chicken breast or hamburger Pattie with another bone broth before bed, drank a gallon of water and did the same thing every single day.....boring as can be but I weighed in with three pounds to spare 5 days early!! I am now officially approved to donate a kidney to my daughter!! -
Post-op only allowed 500 calories a day???? Why

If you really want the science of it all its here : https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6761298/ in my program we had to go through a class that talked about it. I am not going to slaughter the spellings of the hormones and proteins that are disrupted after weight loss surgery but your body has a new norm or "reset" that changes the way you burn your carbs and fats. The Ghrehlin (hunger hormone) is decreased a great deal with the VSG and ultimately you do not eat as much but the WAY your body is actually seeing and burning the calories you do ingest is being looked at differently as well. The science is actually super interesting..... -
How moly, it’s almost hard to look at! I still have so much work to do but I cannot get over the changes in under 6 months! At times I really miss a cold beer (and I am not really a drinker) or a good old dish of homemade Mac and cheese but then I look at old photos and it quickly reminds me that I don’t need them that badly! What do you miss or what gives you that added incentive to shut the fridge door?

Flipping fantastic!!!!!! Its so much fun to see the results of all the hard work

I really don’t even mind when my hubby eats junk food in front of me. I have had a slice of pizza and it actually made me sick to my stomach after a bite or two. I have found that when I am craving pizza, I take a few pepperoni and pizza sauce and put it on a cauliflower crust and call it pizza! I just improvise and find a new normal “junk” food . A few bites and I am full and that itch is scratched!! The one thing I haven’t figured out how to improvise for is bubbles!!! I miss bubbles, but I have learned to love water.

I am not sure what program you were put on but at two week post up I was still at a liquid diet. I hadn't even attempted soft foods. Didn't your surgeon send you home with a detailed diet plan? I would surely contact your dietitian, your stomach is healing and solids could do damage to the internal incisions.

All right; today I had to call my husband out to the field and ultimately we called the case technician for a tech call. We couldn’t get the tractor to shift into gear, I tried everything. I have ran tractors my entire adult life!!! after a service call here was the problem, when I pushed in the clutch There was no longer enough WEIGHT on the seat to be detected by the sensor for the tractors system for the computer to allow it to shift!!! Whoop whoop!!!! The fix, push my ass down harder on the seat and let up on the clutch!!! Yippe!!! -

I live in a super small town and did not broadcast I had WLS, the rumor was I had some crazy disease for the longest time, I sure hope I wasn't dying. After the compliments came the sympathy casseroles ......lol. now most people have gotten the message that I am not dying nor do I have a strange disease or cancer, I am just healthy !!! Gotta love it!

Here are just a couple of the silly things that have made me smile the last couple weeks: 1. I can buy cute underwear that are not made out of white flour sack material. 2. I can put on my socks in the morning with out making strange sounds and grunting. 3. When getting dressed to go somewhere the first thing out of my mouth is NOT "does this make me look fat!" -
Has anyone had drastic vision changes after VSG? I am not convinced it is related to WLS but I am just wondering if anyone else had any issues. I have had glasses since I was in high school and I will be 50 next month so I am getting older and vision changes are natural but I had my eyes checked this week because of some changes going on and holy smokes.......talk about changes. My astigmatism is out of control, both my close up and distance prescription changed to the point the dr had them check the machine and he double checked his reading ...... I have to have them checked again in 3 months and again in 6 months because of the drastic changes??? I know getting old sucks but cripes I did not SEE this coming... haha

congrats!!!!! hard work pays off you look amazing!!! -
So here is the skinny, haha!!! I am having some absorption issues after all! I have some super low b12 levels and my iron is really low as well. I have had multiple bowel resections before my VSG so my surgeon feels i need to change up my vitamins to liquid (yuck, yuck and more yuck) but hopefully that will help prevent more nerve damage!!! He also things that maybe if we can straighten out this absorption thing we can fool the old body into burn mode again and get these last 30ish pounds off!! I’m happy with my progress, don’t get me wrong 70 pounds is nothing to sneeze at but that goal weight is just sitting there mocking me! I need to smash it!!

Amen to that. I am not much of a drinker at all but in the summer when it’s 100 above and I’m out on the boat a cold beer is pretty darn good!!!
-
I am at almost 5 months post VSG and eggs are a staple in my day. I start out my day with a scrambled egg with a little goat cheese and a spoon of salsa on it (sounds gross but I love it) and I don't miss a day!! I have never been a breakfast person or an egg person but I don't start a day out without one and I have no issues. The one odd thing with me is when I eat a dense meat, like steak, I get the hiccups!! It is the strangest thing but if I eat a dense protein I get the stinking hiccups!!!! Everyones body reacts differently I guess!!! I used to love seafood of all types now just the smell of it and I run the other way! Good luck and don't let the stalls get you down just stick to your program, when your body adjusts it will start to go down again
-
I make pizza now and again on a cauliflower crust and I can eat a small slice without any trouble. I really don't have any desire to eat many other comfort foods.......when I make tacos I just eat the meat with a little cheese and I get scratch the itch without any trouble!!! This summer the one thing I am afraid I am going to miss is a cold beer when I am out on the boat when its hot!! I haven't had anything carbonated and thats something I just don't think you can substitute !!!

BUT....the majority of the food you are eating now is.........protein. The foods you are eating right now are super high in iron .....therefore you have been eating low amounts of food but the ratios of iron is high. Your body flushes the iron out every day that is does not use therefore you poop it out.......and it is dark in color.

I used to HATE water, I was a true diet cokeaholic. Now I am a wateraholic. I drink it around the clock. I actually enjoy it, it surprises me. I am a bit of a water snob but I love water....I have found super cold water out of glass bottles is my favorite. Sounds super silly but it works for me. It started with a glass bottle of VOSS water that was super overpriced..... Now we have a KANGEN water machine and do the reverse osmosis thing and I drink about a gallon of water a day out of a glass hydro bottle on ice I suggest just trying to switch up the water a bit, after surgery your tastes do change a bit good luck!!!!

The magic 8 ball says iron......iron turns poop black and it only takes a day or so. It turns it hard like concrete and black like wet dirt. Colored poop is pretty common but iron can be quite the little devil to the poop system....too much is troubling too little is tiring to the body and systems in general .....ohhh the problems of iron.....LOL
-
Water, H20, dihydrogen monoxide, liquor amnii, with an occasional twist of lemon......haha I like to switch it up a bit and live dangerously. If I am feeling really wild and crazy I will splurge and drink a diet peach Snapple, those are my absolute favorite!!!! But I always go back to water, ice cold water.

I don’t want to be the bearer of bad news but it’s not realist to lose 2 ponds a day long term. In the early stages your body is losing fluid and is in shock so it does on the bright side 4 pounds in a week is fantastic! it’s super average to lose 2 pounds a week or even less than that in the later stages, so your doing great!! this isn’t magic, it’s hard work and takes time and effort!!!!! It didn’t come on over night and it takes time to come off

I have found that the more weight we get rid of the more feelings that surface. Feelings that were buried deep beneath the layers of fat come to the surface and sometimes the slightest thing can scratch the nerve! I try not to let things build up so that he knows what particular thing pissed me off, he never has to guess!!!

Read this and read it twice or three times, put it to memory the scale will make you crazy. you will fluctuate. Period. your body retails fluid, your body retains waste, it takes time. It took time to put on and it will take time to take off. Try not to weigh yourself daily, I know that is a super hard thing to do. Your going to go up and down, and you will all out stall. It happens to all of us. All you can do is stay your course and know that as long as the trend is downward your making good progress A good poop and pee can be the difference of a pound or pound and a half, the clothes you wear, how wet your hair is, the little things can make you crazy but the bottom line is if you weigh yourself weekly or biweekly you will see bigger changes in the numbers and the ounces won’t make you nuts!
