Banding with Autoimmune Disease
heather.vasquez replied to livtobeblessed's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have Sarcoidosis :frown: I'm one of the few peopl that started with this Disease in my Sinus Cavity and then It was found in my Left eye it's called "Uveits". I've had to be on steroids multiple times orally and in my eyes. I was recently Diagnosed with it in my Lungs & my Chest Lymphnoid last November. My Dr. states that the Lapband was a great choice and it should be fine. I was worried because working with an Infectious Disease Dr. They think I have what's called "Muscle Skelatal Sarcoidosis" and I was worried that with something foreign in my body my Sarcoid would go mental. All the Dr's have consulted and they gave the green light. They actually think with the weight loss it may benefit me in the future. -

Need some insight on psych eval and depression
heather.vasquez replied to PSJ71's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
PSJ , I just recently went through a psych eval and like others stated it's to check your self esteem levels, see if you are suicidal. My test had a whole sheet on eating habits and the psych Dr. said it was to see if I had self controll and to see how I would react in diffrent environments with picinic, buffets or eating with other people who ate lots of food... Could I control myself. That part was extreamly interesting. I was really honest with my Dr. they ask us these questions for a reason and depression does result in weight gain for some people. Maybe the right combination of Medication can help my breast Friend calls it her " Happy Cocktail". I myself suffered from Pregnancy Purging. When I was pregnant with both of my children food made me ill so i ate and the purged. With the love and support from my family I no longer feel the need to do these things. So be honest and open and you may be suprised. -

Starting 6 month diet
heather.vasquez replied to Lisa Dilard's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lisa, I'm in month 4 of my 6 mo diet and it has been "Difficult" to say the least. There are so many factors from cook outs , to work functions to my first born leaving for college. I have relied on these boards alot for support and within the last 2 weeks with everyones advice I'm down 5 lbs!! I struggled day after day with smart choices only to go to my next appt and be up two lbs or to only be down 8oz. I like you and many others have shed many tears and kicked ourselves many times. The one thing that has truly helped me is the advice from many here and that is if you have a moment of weakness, leave it as a moment and correct yourself for the next meal don't just toss the day or week away. I drink tons of water as advised by fellow banders and I make it a point to exercise everyday. One day at a time and one meal at a time. You can do anything you set your mind to :tt2: -
I'm at my wits end and am in need of some dieting advice. I have to loose 10 lbs in order to get my surgery done and I'm trying so hard with Diet and exercise. I meet with a nutrionist and workout 4-5 days a week at the gym. I'm ready to do Slimfast ...hydroxy cut ...whhtever I'm just soooooooo desperate I can't stand it!! I hate to start liquids because I know I have to do 2weeks of it before and after surgery!! ANY SUGGESTIONS on how to loose this 10?:smile2:

heather.vasquez replied to Mommy07's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had to do a sleep Study first then went to a pulmonologist. I found out I have Moderate Sleep Apneas. My husband can't beleive it because he says I don't snore I just breath heavy. I went to Pulmn. and he looked down my throat and asked me liek 20 question on how tired you are during the day, sleeping patterns, snoring and how do you feel when you wake up in the morning. My Dr. won't do Surgery till I'm on the mask. So now I have to back again and do the study again with the mask. -

SD. I have Aetna I'm based in CT. Aetna is covering my surgery 90% I just had to call and ask if it was covered. They told me I had to be part of a 6 mos supervised diet with a RD (reg. Dietican) and attened an exercise program. Good Luck :biggrin2: -
Joyful me that was very well said. I'm a scale person i'm obssesed with the scale and watching that dial move. An article came out today from a site I belong to and it was " Are you obsessed with your Scale" it was amazing to see that 42% of people weigh themselves daily. For some the scale is not a friend and It was till i received support from fellow lapbanders that i realized this is a change for the rest of my NEW life.:cursing:

Sleep Apnea Mask & weight loss
heather.vasquez posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My MD states that with healthy eating habits and great sleep the weight will come off easier. Has anyone experienced more weight loss since they have been using their mask to sleep at night? Do you really feel more refreshed? I have what they call Moderate Sleep Apnea. Any insight would be helpful. -
6 mo diet, can't lose weight, is it okay?
heather.vasquez replied to dsteele130's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks everyone for the inspiration !!! I know this is a "life" change and I need to take things one day at a time. I just found out my husband has to go on medication because they feel that it's on onset of Type 2 Diabeties so this change that I'm making will not be just for me it will be for our entire family. "Just1more" thank you for the email I will start the lists tomorrow. -
6 mo diet, can't lose weight, is it okay?
heather.vasquez replied to dsteele130's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I feel your pain I have been on the 6 month Diet and have been up and down from 260 day one up to 263 down to 262.5 to now 262 as of yesterday I have to be @ 250 before I can start my liquid pre-op diet. Last night I cried myself to sleep wondering what is wrong with me. So today I sat and re-read my logs that I have to keep and had a long hard look and decided to put in 110% and see where it takes me this week!! LOL... I said goodbye to the Choclate Chip cookie a day!! I also started a thread early yesterday asking for advice on how to kick these 10 lbs and received lots of great advice ....WATER.. PROTEIN( lean)...Veggies....WATER... Water... and no caffinated beverages.. I'm a 5 cup a day coffee drinker so that is going to be tough today. As everyone says it didn't come on overnight so we aren't going to get rid of it overnight but with strength & perserverance we can do it  -

Thanks for the inspiration it's great to talk with someone who is going through the same thing with the same dr. the Gastro dr. is a consult and he will schedule the endo for me. everyone says it's easy the put you to sleep and you just wake up with a sore throat. Karen was there when I talked with Dr. B and she was very encouraging and told me to stay focused and Dr. B said that it's a tough season right now and it will get better. What Season isn't tough we have Fair season, then Halloween then Thanksgiving then Christmas ...lol...Wiring my mouth shut would be easier. -

Would love to keep in touch. I have my Mid-way consult with the dr. on Monday. I've had some struggles with the diet this week My Oldest Daughter is leaving for college and my nerves have been such a mess I haven't had the time to go to the gym or eat right this week. But back on track tomorrow. How is the Dietician you work with? Karen they lady who will do your psch exam is WONDERFUL I love her to pieces. I go for my last nutrition meeting on Sept 10th then I will attend this 6 week meeting called "For the Health of it" each week there is a new topic about behaviors , triggers, exercise etc. It was only 35.00 and I figured hey it's a great way of keeping me on track. -
Thank You all for your feedback. My Mom is a Nurse and she stated also that these people had to have had pre-exisiting conditions and the best thing I can do is read all the facs and be 100% Honest with the surgeon and follow the preop diet before surgery to a T as to not have any problems at the time of surgery.

My best friend called me this morning in a state of panic saying to be carefull because a co-worker of her mothers knew two people who had brain anurisms from the surgery. I mean what are the odds of this happening? Is there a site that has information that has good information for family memebers.
