270 ( -34 total -1 this week) Since I didn't loose anything last week, I'm glad for the one lb.!! pfunkem - you look great. What a difference a month makes! Gee, if nobody is doing the July challenge--maybe I have a chance to win it!!! WOOT WOOT!! Kidding....:Banane56: I've always wondered how so many of you could spend so much time on here now I know. I have 2 jobs and I answer the phone at a car dealership at night. That is when I have time to get on here! That's also one reason it is so hard for me to exercise.:nervous

    Is this normal?

Be sure you are getting enough protein! Remember you are probably on liquids or mushies and you must be sure to get in enough liquids (64 oz) and get your proteins. I am about a month out and had this happen one time but I didn't think I was eating enough. I felt better when I ate something. If it happens several times you should definitely call your dr. better safe than sorry! Good luck!

can i vent for a moment?

Rest assured that you are not the only one without a band that is on here. If you came here looking for info and then felt comfortable here, then you have just as much right as anyone to be on this web site. I am supprised that Diva even said that. Maybe it was just the way she said it. Maybe she doesn't realize how hurtfull it sounded sometimes people just don't realize what they are saying could be hurtfull to someone. Hang in there! Carol

    How do you eat?

Sounds good to me. I do the salad plate but haven't moved to small utensils yet. I know I am taking too large of bites still so the small fork will probable come after I get my first fill on July 6. I am definitely feeling hungrier lately! I don't get filled up as quickly.

Welcome back PNut. Lins12 I thought I was having heart trouble and the dr. had me do a stress test which didn't show up anything. Finally after a trip to the ER after a big episode I had a heart cath done and my heart was fine. THANK GOD!! I was having panic attacks! My DR. never thought of that I guess. I don't see him anymore anyway, I got my anti depressive upped and haven't had one since then. I think some of it may have just been knowing what it was. I had never had any until 2 summers ago after I had knee surgery. Hope yours go away soon!! Good luck! Carol

    What was YOUR last straw?

WhippleDaddy I'd been fat since I was nine years old, and I had gotten pretty much used to it. Not happy about it, but resigned, and yes, a little comfortable. There is a payoff to the fatness. For each of us it is different . What an eloquent testimony! I thought, "This man should by a writer." Then I went to your signature page and saw that you ARE a writer!! NO WONDER you wrote so well... You put into words somewhat of what I feel. There is a payoff to being invisible. I have never had someone that was so rude as to say something about how big I was, thank goodnes! But I do feel somewhat invisible, people just don't notice you for the most part. That was fine when I was married but now that I'm not, I don't want to be so invisible any more. That brings up the question of why I wanted to be invisible, especially to men, but that is a whole 'nuther can of worms. I think my last "moment" was when I went over the 300 lb. mark. YIKES!! That couldn' t be real... 300 lbs???? There is a lady that I work with that had gastric bypass last Sept. I told her then that I was thinking about WLS, I was going to wait and see how she did with it. Well, she really has lost the weight and she looks great. I don't remember where or when I first heard about the band, but that has always made more sense to me than the bypass. I know she was out of work for several weeks and she still felt pretty bad when she came back. I know she had one really bad day when she had dumping syndrome. She was lying on the bathroom floor at work, sick as a dog. I did some research about the band and then found out I knew someone that had had it done. I emailed her and asked about a zillion questions. Then she took me to a seminar and the rest is history. I have lost some since surgery but since I went to regular food the loss has stopped. I also get hungrier at night now. That scares me, but I get a fill in July. I'll have to hold on until then and hope that helps me. Sorry, I didn't mean to write a book. Don' t want to tread on any toes "Wippledaddy" he, he. It is sooo good to vent!

    I have a date!

Congrats robinem!!! :grouphug: I am 3 weeks out of surgery and went back to a part time receptionest job after 2 days. I wouldn't have wanted to go back to anything more than that. I am a teachers assistant for 5th and 6 grades and was glad I didn't have to go back to that for a while. I'm working summer school this week and have felt fine but I tried to throw a basketball a few times and it pulled at my incisions and made me sore. I would think that massaging someone would add some pressure to your stomach. Since most Dr. don't want you to eat solid food for a few weeks so not to disturb the band, I would think that exercise , or massage would be the same thing. My Dr. never gave me any time constraints on exercise tho. except 10 days before I could go in water, like swimming or bathing. I guess you could try it out on a friend if you feel like you are ready for it and then maybe call the Dr. and re-talk it over. Hope that helps some. I'm sure you will hear from others with advise. Good luck! Carol

Im saying bye bye to my hair!

Why are you loosing your hair? Does it have to do with band surgery? If it does you may not be getting enough protein. That is what I have heard from my support group. Try boosting your protein.

May 2006 Band Crew ~ June Chat

I have restless leg also... I wonder if that goes along with being overweight?? Does anyone know? I take Requip also, it is wonderful!!! I pushed myself to solid meat too soon. I had soup at work one night and I was still hungry when I got home. That afternoon I had gotten a roasted chicken from Kroger and I was just going to eat the wings. Well, the poor little thing was small and the wings got over done. I never should have eaten the things. By the time I was almost through with the 2nd one I started to hurt. It felt like I would feel so much better if I could burp but ,of course, I couldn't get a burg up either! I have heard walking was the best thing to do so out the door I went. I got my exercise in that night...I walked and slimed, just like you hear everyone talk about. It was something like when dog starts to throw up and bubbly slime comes out. I did that a few times with more each time. Then I finally got some of the chicken out and then later the rest of it out. I felt so much better then!! Hope I learned my lesson too, eat s-l-o-w-l-y and chew, chew, chew. Old habits are soooo hard to break. I never realized how much I gulped my food down until I started trying to chew more slowly before I got the band in. That is what I tried that night with the chicken wings. The rest of the meat I have put in with soup in very small pieces. Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks??

Where did I go? Who am I now?

I don't know if anyone is still reading this thread but me. Nykee, it is not selfish to want to be pretty! I wish I had a nickle for everytime I had heard as a youngster " YOu have such a pretty face, if you could just lose some weight". Well, I have never had anyone to tell me I was pretty, except some friends in the last couple of years. My parents didn't, boyfriends didn't, husband of 30 years didn't. I have finally come to the conclusion that I don't look all that bad for my age. I worked a job where I had to see everyone's drivers license and I found out that a lot of women my age look quite a bit older than I do. I have been told a lot that I look younger than my age, maybe I could hope for pretty also??? I know looks are only superficial, and what counts is on the inside, but I still want them!! I need to work on my insides also, to get over the abuse. KellieBelly, mine was much the same as yours. Inocence taken, secrets, guilt, protection of the one that did it. Why does that happen?? My father didn't protect me, why should I protect him? I was never raped, but there was enough abuse to mark me for the rest of my life. He died right after I graduated high school, I couldn't have talked to him about it at that time, now I can't. I've tried, but it doesn't do any good. I didn't talk to anyone about it until I had been married for 19 years! Now it looks like I'm telling everyone, even thought it is sort of anonymous. Well, now that I have spilled my guts, guess I had better go. Thanks for listening to me. I love this web site!!!! Carol

H 304/ C 274/ -30/ -2 this week I don't write here often but I do get so much inspiration from everyone here!! It has been 2 weeks since I was banded and I have lost about 11 lbs since surgery.:clap2: I do have some restriction with just the band (thank God!) so it hasn't been too bad so far. I haven't done much exercise so far, but then I didn' t do much before the surgery.:faint: We get a 3 month gym membership as part of our surgery and I am going to start taking advantage of that. They have a nice exercise pool with classes then as I heal and lose more weight I want to take some more classes. It is really hard to work it in with my schedule during the school year because of my 2 jobs but now is the perfect time to take advantage of it. Reading everyone's stories and the laughs I get from this site and everyone talking about exercising and the inspiration and encouragement from everyone is so special, I can't begin to thank everyone for the help I have gotten here. :drum: :first:  :wow2:  :humble: :bounce: I think we are all number one and we do have the power to travel this long road to recovery. Congrats to everyone for hanging in here and helping all of us newbies!! Oh yeah PNut thanks for the info about the "shrinking" photos. You will see me in one! Carol

    Who Did You Tell?

When I started this whole process I told only a couple of people. After I got approved by my insurance I started telling more people. Everyone has been very supportive. I did worry some about everyone "watching" to see how fast I lose. I work with a lady that has bypass...oh well... It really doesn't bother me if they watch, let em watch as I shrink!

PNut you have got to tell me how you did the "shrinking" picture. How cool is that!! I'm a (sort of) computer geek...don't know that much but when I see something I don't know about I just have to learn!

    Tennessee Bandsters ??

Why do you think you won't be successful with the band? I think everyone worries that it won't help you like everyone says it does. I got my band almost 2 weeks ago so I am very new to this. So far I feel great and I do have restriction with just the band. Thank goodness!! I haven't been real hungry yet. There have been a couple of days where I was more hungry than others. I know some people don't have restriction until they get a couple of refills, I'm glad I wasn't one of them. I don' t have real good willpower...that's why I weigh what I do.

Where did I go? Who am I now?

I find this thread so interesting! I have never thought of myself as being "fat". I know I am and I don't mind looking in the mirror because it is only superficial, and quick. I am a thin person trapped in a fat suit. I keep it because it is a kind of security from long ago hurts. I want to get away from it, but then I don't want to get away from it. I have been single for 5 years and haven't had much attention from men. I think that will probably change when I loose a bunch. Although I don't put myself in a place where I might meet men - too scary I guess. After being married for 30 years, I don't know if I want to go back there or not.... but then again it would be nice for a man to notice me. You see my dilemma. There are a lot of things to think about. I never thought of it as and ending of one thing and a beginning of another, but I like that. The start of something new. I just hope I can be brave enough to sail through.

    May 2006 Band Crew

I've lost 6 lbs. this week since my surgery on the 23rd. Yea! I, of course, was hoping for more.... I have exercised some, walking, but the pain in my shoulder has kept me from doing as much as I should. I almost hate to say it - but I have not had that pain today. I did a lot yesterday and then today I was wiped out. I had a lazy day reading, watching TV, dozing, then came to my part time job. Usually when I get dressed my bra starts the pain in my shoulder. Tonight, so far, it hasn't. Maybe that will be done with! Congratualtions all Mayers!!!:clap2: :clap2: :clap2:
