Hi all! Was banded Aug. 27, 2008 lost 20 lbs. One fill 2cc I seem to be stuck on only 20 lbs. I know I need to exercise more but I really do eat so much less. I eat a lot of protein and veggies only. Help any suggestions on exactly what to eat? I have eggs for breakfast omelet with mushroom and broccoli, lunch fish and vegetables. Not much. I drink a lot of soups like pork and watercress, meat and squash. Are those not good choices? How about half order of super nachos, which I did have once at a volleyball game. It sure went down easy and tasted so good. I stopped when I got full and had so much left over. Check with you all later. Aloha!

I'm with Kaiser in Hawaii. It's a long process. 1st the orientation which I waited for 6 mo. after the Dr. recommendation. The weigh in and test are done just before the orientation. You are suppose to lose or at least stay at that weight till surgery. I was into 8 mo. before my surgery date. Now a little faster. You need to attend 4 classes with the behavior analist, 4 dietary classes, 3 or more visits with BMC. 2 more one and one with the behaviorist. Attend at least 4 webtiles sessions. 2 physical therapy exercise class. After all that you finally attend Bariatric Surgery pre=surger group session. Visit with the pharmacist. and finally meet with the surgeon. It took me 8 mo. Some did it in 6 mo. Good luck to you it was all worth while. Learned alot. But this board is the best......Aloha:smile:

Hi all, Got my surgery 9/27/08. The first 7 days lost 14 lbs easy. No problem to that. The next 5 weeks only 3 lbs.. Total 17 lbs. in 6 weeks. I really thought that was so slow. The Dr. said everyone is different. My first fill yesterday. It went okay. Today I weighed myself lost another 3 lbs. Hope that stays off. I go up and down give or take two lbs. Well after the fill no problem drinking liquids but as for eating eat very slowly chew, chew, chew even banana chewed got stuck. But I'm doing fine and I do not regret doing the band. I wish I knew about it sooner I would have done it years ago. I do eat protein all sort of meats, eggs etc. and veggies no rice sometimes mash potato very little and sometimes very little poi watered down. The hardest thing for me is not drinking water with meals. I did get scolding from the Dr. to stop the sipping during the meal. For reason of you don't feel the fullness the liquid wash it down. Maybe this month I can lose more.I'm anxious about this. Let you know soon enough how the next month go. Aloha!:smile2:

Do you still enjoy eating?
jeannierk replied to Sooverit!'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes I enjoy food. I seem to like veggies more now. The different flavors even onions....:crying: -
Don't worry I'm 5 weeks out and only down 17 lbs. 15 lbs the first 7 days. Once I started to eat real food it slowed down alot. The Dr. said I might gain but I did not. Thursday Oct. 9, is my first fill and I'm hoping it will make a difference. I only eat a cup of food. My protein, vegetable and no room for anything else. I could probably eat more but I stop myself. when I get off the table I am so full. I on the other hand have a hard time not drinking liquids before, during and after meals. I still sip water. Which is a NO, No. I feel maybe that is why I'm not losing that much. Not sure. Also I get hungry ever 3 hours. I drink a protein drink to fill me up. It's okay. Hope and Pray after the fill I will be dropping the weight. Good Luck to you also. I will keep in touch after the fill. Aloha! :crying:

Not filled yet and struggling
jeannierk replied to jkend50035's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm five weeks out and only lost 17lbs. Lost 15 the first 7 days. My first fill will be on Thursday Oct. 9, hoping that will be the new start for me. I do feel some restriction, only after I stop myself from eating more. When I stand up I really feel full. I only eat a cup of protein and vegetables. Or a cup of soup w/meat and veggies. And when I get up I'm so stuff. The weight has been slow. I have a hard time with not drinking liquids 1/2 hr. before during and after meals. I do sip water inbetween. Not good. But it's hard for me. Can't wait till Thursday. Hope & pray the fill will help me drop the pounds. And I need more excercise. Don't worry I'm struggling also, sometimes I feel I ate to much or the wrong things. Aloha!:crying:. -
:wink_smile:Hi there! I lost 15lbs in 7 days after banded, now 5 weeks after only total of 17lbs. This is so slow and yet I eat very little. I probably could eat more but I stop myself. My first fill will be this Thursday on the 9th I'm hoping it will be the start of my new beginning. I feel some sort of fullness, but not till after I stop eating and standup. I'm so happy to be banded and looking forward to making it work. I do very little excersize and will start doing more starting this week. Congratulations on the 9 lbs. For every different person it's different. I did not have to lose any weight pre surgery. Just maintain the orientation weight. Which I did. Doing fine. The thing I have the hardest time is with the no liquids before, during, and after meals. I am really struggling with this. I do still take sips of water inbetween. I will keep in touch after my fill. Aloha

Do you still enjoy eating?
jeannierk replied to Sooverit!'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
only two weeks out YES i love food. All in my mind. I did love to eat all sort of tasteful foods. Sure miss it. Trying to eat right. The last two nights I been attending our university women volleyball games. It was such a challenge for me not to eat the nachos. At the arena here in Hawaii makes the best nachos. Watching everyone eating it is just killing me a friend had it infront of my face telling me to just take a bite. I had strong will power and said no. But I really want it. Tonight is another game and it will be another challenge for me. Hope I still say NO... -
Was on liquids for only one week. Dr. said to go to the next phase. Talked to my dietician and she said basically whatever I can chew to apple sauce feel it was okay. I'm kind of worried though if I'm healing the right way. But Dr. and Dietician said it is okay. I did feel the tightness the second week. Now going into the third week no tightness. I do stop myself. I would like to get a fill but won't see the Dr. till the 9th of Oct. for my first fill. Just remember protein first, vegetable or fruit and if enough room starch. Which you will find out no room. Hope this help a little:thumbup:

Questions For The Newly Banded
jeannierk replied to speck's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations on being banded. As far as liquids I was told to sip one oz. of water every 10-15 min. minimum 4 oz. an hour. If you can't contact the Dr. Every fifteen min. 1 oz. will cover 64 oz a day. Plus the liquids from soups and broths are bonuses. The first week I couldn't drink all the protein got to full. Kept trying. Eight days later no problem. No pain in my chest, pain was mostly in my upper back and shoulders. That went away. When I walked I had a gas pain on the left side right under my rib cage. Uhg....gas hurt Yes, could not lay in bed for two weeks I slept on the couch. I still need the pillows I'm back in bed the last two nights. I was banded on Aug. 27, 2008. Hope this help some. -

Shopping List for Surgery
jeannierk replied to lalaredd's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
SHOPPING LISTS AND HINTS-FULL liquid DIET PHASE First 14 - days after surgery Hints: Start very slowly - be patient with your new pouch. Remember to treat it like an infant stomach. Take very small amounts of liquid at a time otherwise you may vomit or feel very uncomfortable if you try to gulp instead of taking small sips The "survival " tips for the first few days after surgery are - fluids first, Multivitamin & mineral supplement (and Vitamin B1 if needed), then Protein. You may not feel hungry or even thirsty or you may even feel nauseous, but to prevent dehydration, sip, sip, sip - (suck on ice, sugar-free fruit popsicles or sugar-free jello). If a particular drink or food causes nausea or vomiting when you advance to the next diet pase, always go back to the clear liquid diet phase for a day or two to rest your stomach. Then slowly advance to the next diet phase. If you vomit more than once a day, call your bariatric specialist for medical attention. Shopping List: Vitamins and minerals protein supplements Water bottle or sipping container strainer or blender nonfat or 1% cow's milk lactaid, soy or rice milk if you are lactose intolerant non- or low-fat, artificially sweetened smooth yogurts (no chunks of fruit, nuts or cereal) low fat creamed Soups, strained first broth or miso Soup, strained Cream of Wheat Water Low calorie, non-carbonated drinks that contain less than 10 calories per serving: Crystal light, Diet Snapple, Sugar-free Kool-aid, etc. Diluted 100% fruit juice (limit to 6-oz/day) Sugar-free Jell-O or sugar -free pudding sugar-free popsicles Nutrasweet or Splenda Decaffeinated tea or coffee AVOID all carbonated caffeinated and alcoholic beverages
