Trip planned. Suggestions welcomed for soft foods.
LaoDaBeirut replied to Mona Ometuruwa's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Can you have fish at this stage? I could and so I basically lived on it. I traveled during the soft food stage and this stuff is available everywhere in the UK: cans of tuna greek yogurt protein pudding (I can't remember the name but it's a German brand and it's pretty good) soft cheeses For the plane, you might get lucky and sometimes airlines serve fish or mushy vegetables, which you could have.Otherwise bring some protein oatmeal with you, a little tupperware container, and ask the flight attendant for hot water and make that as many times as you need during the flight. Whenever I travel I take this with me as a backup food because all you need is hot water to make it. -
Anyone Like Popcorners?
LaoDaBeirut replied to GradyCat's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I've had them and they taste good but they're pretty much empty calories and dangerous because they're not filling at all. -
Too Big for Sleeve?
LaoDaBeirut replied to simplysmile's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did the sleeve at over 400 lbs. Reasons to pick sleeve: 1. It's a shorter operation time so safer for a high-risk person under anesthesia. 2. If you don't lose enough you can convert to bypass whereas bypass is a one shot deal. Bypass does yield faster results though. As you can see my weight loss is still going in the second year. I think for some people that would be discouraging but I'm looking at this as a marathon. -
I don't love the taste but I haven't really minded it so far.

I take naturelo bariatric and I've had zero issues tolerating them so far.

Post op confidence
LaoDaBeirut replied to kristieshannon's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Congrats! You should be proud of yourself! I will also be in Europe in May (likely in France) so perhaps we will run into each other -
Add nutritional yeast to your soups. It's delicious and has a ton of protein.

What I did for protein at this stage is cook a lot of fish and then bean based meals because beans are also fairly soft. I basically cooked my way through the Spain on a Fork guy's bean and fish recipes and then make salmon with lemon juice in the instant pot because if I cook it any other way I screw it up. My plan sounds a little different than others on here and I wasn't supposed to be using any kind of supplement and instead was supposed to have fish or chicken breast and vegetables and the portion was supposed to be the size of my hand and I could do that as many times a day as necessary to get to 1,200 calories or have protein snacks like greek yogurt and cottage cheese.

Do you like fish? At this stage I ate a lot of cooked fish and sauteed vegetables. Fish is easier to digest than meat and is a good middle ground. For vegetables go for things that get a little mushy like zucchini or carrots.

I agree. This seems excessive and kind of sadistic. I definitely got recommendations to exercise but so long as I was exercising there wasn't a lot of care as to the exact thing I was doing every minute. Can you transfer to a different program. Alternatively, would going a cheap self-pay option in Las Vegas or Mexico be an option? Mental health matters too and I can't imagine going through the surgery with a team that seems to determined to make you feel like a failure.

Stomach stretched????
LaoDaBeirut replied to smarks's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah that doesn't sound like a healthy thing you're supposed to be eating. -
Stomach stretched????
LaoDaBeirut replied to smarks's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can't stretch your stomach with water. Chips are a slider food so eating a whole bag is something you CAN do but not something you SHOULD do. Bread might be a slider food for you because that could explain the whole sandwich. I think the better question is why are you eating chips and a sandwich? -
If you have a chocolate chip cookie craving, Quest makes a protein cookie that isn't bad although they're really expensive.

The advice you are getting seems bizarre because I don't know why a psychiatrist has any business telling you what exercise is appropriate for you. That's the job of a PT and/or a doctor. If your team is insisting that you MUST exercise in this manner then something is wrong. In addition, exercise is only a small part of this and the majority of the work is diet related. You shouldn't be doing ANY exercise that is causing you pain. Stop doing what you're doing immediately and here are your options: 1. Consult a physiotherapist who can help you learn how to exercise without hurting yourself. Even if you have to pay money for this it's worth it. 2. Get in the pool. Swimming or water aerobics are a great workout and excellent for people with injuries. When I was 17 I dislocated each of my hips in separate snowboarding crashes. I did pool workouts to recover and it's still a great workout without straining your body. I still do them now. 3. Stay out of the gym and go for a walk. Really there is no reason we have to work out in gyms, especially if it causes you stress. I find a treadmill torture but going for a walk outside is the highlight of my day. If you don't like it, you don't have to do it.

What to add to meat to increase moisture?
LaoDaBeirut replied to Flab-U-Less Forever's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Cook it in an instant pot/slow cooker with it's own juices. You can add some vegetable or meat broth and then whatever flavorings you like. You'll end up with really soft meat that's easy to get down. I would be wary of getting used to adding lots of sauces as a lot can be pretty high in calories or sugar. -
I've had it a couple times and had no issue with it, although I get full too quickly from it. Greek food has been a staple for me this past year and actually I spent last June travelling in Greece so other than orzo you should be fine. I make a lot of shrimp saganaki, halloumi, and homemade tzatziki. With real feta and real greek yogurt not whatever that stuff sold in America is.

What do you mean by have a problem with it? I cannot say I'm offended by orzo.

What are you treating yourself with?
LaoDaBeirut replied to Summermoose's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
A brand new snowboard and all the gear, and two snowboarding trips to Europe because for the first time in 15 years I'm small enough to do it. -
Loving Protein-Packed Kodiak Bear Bites
LaoDaBeirut replied to GradyCat's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Is this really all that different nutritionally than regular cookies? I've noticed a trend of all kinds of food just putting PROTEIN on the label if it has any protein at all when it's not really a protein packed or healthy food. -
I was open for either but my surgeon chose sleeve for me. The reasoning was that if I didn't lose enough or had issues, I would still have the option for a revision to lose more if I needed whereas bypass is a one shot deal. Also I'm an athlete and the malabsorption issues might have caused a problem with a high activity level. I think sleeve was the right choice for me and while my loss has been slower than some I've been able to maintain muscle mass which I don't think I could have done with the bypass.

Age with wls I am 70 was ready now the surgeon close to me says 65
LaoDaBeirut replied to Peggy Schutzius's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I think we aren't sure what you mean either. Can you rephrase this? -
Okay you seem extremely angry and defensive. What you chose to do is straight up dangerous. You're alive-you're lucky. If you continue to post about what you did, I will continue to point out that it is reckless and dangerous because that's the truth. If you don't like having people react to your posts, you are free to not post. If you want to just say what you did and have no one comment on it, an internet forum is not the place for you.

Dr says no more protein shakes
LaoDaBeirut replied to soulfiremama's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think there has to be some kind of miscommunication or misunderstanding here. -
Your post is in a totally different category than advising what did or didn't work for you. You're openly talking about doing something extremely dangerous that could kill someone.

When did you start eating fruits? (Carbs content)
LaoDaBeirut replied to DaisyAndSunshine's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
60 to 70 carbs actually sounds low and most dairy has minimal carbs. Regardless, you don't have to restrict carbs unless you want to or are told to by your doctor.
