No problem with eating whatsoever, anyone?
LaoDaBeirut replied to Tamara_V's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Don't worry it's normal. Once you are on solid foods you will feel the restriction more. Also you're supposed to be able to eat what's on your plan. Lots of people like to brag about how little they can eat and it makes other people self-conscious. -
Lightheaded/dizzy/weak
LaoDaBeirut replied to yasmine5495's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I felt this way in the first couple of weeks after surgery. It got better once I could eat a bit more. Definitely call your doctor, but don't panic. -
Would you recommend surgery for young people? LONG, sorry
LaoDaBeirut replied to victhemystic's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I would say for you don't commit to the surgery YET. I wish I would have done something about my weight sooner. However I think I did surgery at the right time. I had to work out the emotional issues I had and process childhood abuse first to understand why I ate. I didn't do that until I was past 30. Once I did that I was in a better space to get surgery. What I wish I would have done way sooner would have been sought therapy and worked with a dietitian back when my weight was still lower. If you haven't done other serious interventions to lose weight, then maybe surgery is right. -
That's about what I lost the first month. My surgeon told me that people either lose incredibly quickly and their weight loss slows after about 6 months or stops, or they're slow and steady and they will lose up to 18 months or 2 years after surgery. People are one way or the other and you can't really control it by eating or exercise that's just how it goes.

What is the eating plan you are supposed to be following? Follow that.

bathing suits that cover hanging skin
LaoDaBeirut replied to HealthyMe67's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
What exactly are you looking to cover? If it's arms then get a surfing suit which is long sleeved. If it's legs then you can get a swim dress. -
Pants Size and Other Bariatric Sites
LaoDaBeirut replied to outofusernames's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
It's really impossible to know because it depends on how you carry your weight and how it comes off. The first 30 pounds I lost seem to come off my legs and arms and I didn't change in size. -
I'm so very sorry and I hope you're getting the love and support you need right now. If we can all do anything for you please let us know.

Vacation 3 months after surgery?
LaoDaBeirut replied to cellbell's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm 7 months out. I've actually been travelling for the past 5 months through Armenia, Lebanon, Albania, Macedonia, Bulgaria, and Greece. It's really not hard to travel after surgery. Sometimes I think people get unnecessarily dramatic and freak out about how many supplements they need. The things I do are just make sure to book a place with at least a mini fridge and microwave or cooktop. I also always have some kind of high protein food with me. Cans of tuna are available everywhere. I always keep some low fat cheese and yogurt in my fridge. Otherwise I get meals at restaurants and usually get an appetizer and take the leftovers home. Also-I'm assuming you're from the USA. The American version of Italian food is not healthy. The Italian version of Italian food can be very healthy. You can easily find lean protein options on any menu. All of the supermarkets also have take away salads and deli meats. It's super easy. Japan is also no problem and you can get fish or other seafood all over. -
Lost Weight eating Carbs!!??
LaoDaBeirut replied to la0525's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I know the common theory is carbs are the devil but our body needs some carbs. I've had pizza a few times and I often have a few pieces of baked or grilled potatoes. -
That's amazing! You should do something to celebrate.

10 months out relapsing into old habits.
LaoDaBeirut replied to Holodisplay's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Go easy on yourself. It sounds like you're requiring perfection. It sounds like you have some bad habits creeping back which you want to stop, but it also sounds like you're beating yourself up for not doing this perfectly everyday. Maybe it's time to think about what the most important goals are that you have, or the bad habit you have that is causing the most damage, and work on that one. -
Relax. You're fine. You're in a marathon not a spring and no one does it perfectly. Feeling like crap the first month is normal. I had no energy and was in a brain fog. Think about what the most important thing is that you're missing and focus on just that goal. Do you need more protein? Are you dehydrated? Take it one step at a time. Also unless you are doing something incredibly stupid like forcing yourself to eat a whole pizza you cannot ruin anything in 4 weeks.

Follow up to my restaurant post
LaoDaBeirut replied to HealthyLifeStyle's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
The thing is it sounds like you basically made up your own menu. If you have to say no to 4 different things, change something, and add something else...that's a lot. I've also been a waitress before and if someone asked me to remove the free water I would also probably immediately flag them as a "difficult" table that wasn't going to tip me. I've eaten at a lot of restaurants since my surgery and haven't had an issue. Red Robin probably isn't the kind of place to go though. It's easiest to go to a health focused kind of restaurant first where all you have to do is find some lean protein on the menu. -
When/How to buy new clothes
LaoDaBeirut replied to lizonaplane's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I suggest getting a couple belts and then when you're choosing new things, get things that either have a belt or an elastic waist that can be cinched in. Otherwise a dress with smocking on the top can stretch a lot. -
I don't think so but my bra sets it off all the time anyway so it wouldn't be any different.
-
Mine was similar. I was 410 on surgery day and 6'1. I'm only 5 months out but I'm steadily losing weight each month. I think some people are losing faster than me but my surgeon said my results are great and I will probably keep losing for a long period of time. It's not a race, so fine with me. One thing my surgeon told me is that with a BMI of 50+, with the sleeve patients often don't reach a BMI under 25 or maybe even under 30. I wouldn't let that discourage you though as I'm almost 100 lbs down from where I was and I already feel a massive difference. I sleep better, I have more energy, and I fit into airline seats and other smaller spaces. Even if I never lose another pound it was still worth it.

Don't do this to yourself. You will be on liquids for weeks after the surgery too. Your body will start craving tasting real food. This is just torturing yourself for no reason.

Has anyone regretted getting the surgery?
LaoDaBeirut replied to Roses436's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't regret it overall but I do have moments of regret. I was having a dinner with friends recently and the food was amazing, probably the best thing I've ever tasted. I could only eat a few bites and for a time I really regretted it. Then I remembered all the reasons I did it and it's worth the momentary slight suffering. Also, this is different for different people but I haven't given up any foods. You can enjoy what you want, just in small quantities. -
That's an extremely low calorie count for that amount of exercise. Does your doctor know what you're doing?

Olympic Lifting at 300+ Pounds?
LaoDaBeirut replied to greenchilegoddess's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I've been a powerlifter even when I was over 400 lbs. Lifting is a really size friendly community and there are lifters of all sizes. Go to an actual lifting gym, not crossfit. People who are seriously into it won't judge based on your size and some of them are probably large people anyway. For flexibility, I've never had a problem but I think some of this depends on how you carry your weight and your overall fitness. Just make sure you focus on form and not lifting heavy as you get back into it so you don't hurt yourself. -
10 pounds 20 days-super inspiration!
LaoDaBeirut replied to Betty1971's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Given the really important reason you're trying to do this I would talk to a professional dietician, even if you have to pay for it. -
Once a month. I'm trying not to focus on the weight. I measure myself once a week.
-
Your mom sounds a lot like my mom. I don't speak to her for a reason. I'm sorry you're dealing with this.

1 month post op. Shocked by nutritionist’s recommendations. Anyone else?
LaoDaBeirut replied to ThisMomOf5's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
One thing I think is an actual problem within the WLS surgery community is all the bragging about how little someone can eat. I've seen it a lot but not so much on this site. Someone will say what they are eating and other people chime in with oh I can't eat that much or I cant have 1,000 calories that's too much. It's a weird flex and I think makes people freak out they're eating too much. The truth is we all have slightly different needs following surgery. I'm a foot or more taller than some other women having surgery. I'm assuming that we would have very different caloric needs even if we are all losing weight. Some people are very active and others not so. I tend to trust the experts and just do what they tell me. Clearly if I were good at doing this myself I wouldn't have ended up here.
