  1. I continue to have pain issues which may be realted to the band. I had an appointment with my surgeon yesterday and he removed all the Fluid. He said if the problems continue he wants to do an exploratory laparoscopy. I really, really dont want to do this. He mentioned that he may want to convert to a gastric bypass if this persists. There is no way that I will consent to this. I fear that if he even goes in to do the laparoscopy that I will come out of surgery without a band.

What kinds of pain are you having? I thought my pain was because I was too tight and it turned out to be gallstones. I had my gallbladder taken out last week and get to start fills again on April 27th (I have been completely unfilled since Feb 4th).

  2. We haven't been talking much about the Nike+ challenge lately, kind of fizzelled I think for some of us... but the team challenge ended yesterday. Here's the results! Sorry for this Whosya... but the Hotties won!!!! Small victory, as it took about 5 of us to just 1 Whosya!!! Seriously, congrats to everyone!

I totally forgot to check on that challenge...I am finally back int eh game though!! I ran Wednesday and yesterday...I struggled but made it.

  3. Lacey... how'd your surgery go?

Hey Kathy, it went well, thanks for asking. Way less pain than I expected. I go tomorrow to get the stitches out and hopefully get the all clear to go back to "life as normal". I am antsy to get back to running.

I hope your tummy feels better soon, some meds are just so harsh on our systems.

  4. DE, im sorry, but i'd really follow doc's advice on this. I also think your idea of walking is great though, may help you keep in the game a bit. but dont push it - you dont want to do any serious damage that might keep you out of it for a much longer period of time... (dr. Carol's advice, of course...lol)

Oh no, no worries...I am actually extending his guidelines. He says I can run after 7 days but I am leaning towards not running for 14.

Thanks all, for the comments...I am ready for it to be over. I have my *farewell* run today, so I plan to savor it...LOL!

  5. How long will recovery be?

I had my pre-op yesterday and he said no driving for 3 days and no running for 7. I'll play it by ear though, I am immunocompromised, so I don't want to hinder healing. I thought about walking only for a week and then back into running. We shall see.

Best part though, no nasty pre and/or post-op diet...LOL!

  6. I asked my surgeon before surgery, since I use them all the time and was not looking forward to stopping. He said he didn't see any reason why not to. If the extra air bothers me, then stop but otherwise, don't worry about it. 7 months later, no issues.

  7. I had my 5K yesterday, the first one that I have officially RAN the whole way. I came in at 36:01. I really wanted a sub 35 number (which I know I can do) but the 96% humidity and 22mph wind gusts were working against me. I'd like to do another in April, but we shall see. I have my gallbladder out March 9th and I am not sure how long they'll want me to stop running...if not, next one is a 4.4 mile in May.

  8. On My 19 Month Bandaversary... I hit a major milestone! I've now officially lost over 100 lbs!!!! When I started this journey I knew I had to, but really never thought I would. Well, today I have. I'm now at my lowest weight since University, which was 19 years ago! OMG I'm getting young again!!! LOL.

I also overcame my blahs last night and ran 2m fast. Felt good!!!

    WTG Kathy!!!

  9. So, I thought my next race was going to be the Gate-to-Gate 4.4 mile run on Memorial Day, but I took the plunge and entered a 5K on Saturday. With my upcoming gallbladder surgery, we don't know 100% about the GtG anymore...blah.

I won't get to run today, since my dh has his AF PT test, so I'll run Friday morning. Between a short run Friday morning and the 5K, I should hit 40+ miles this month...the most I have ran so far.

  10. The problem I get into with ANY amount of sugar, is I constantly crave it....even if it's just a little. When I do low carb, the first couple of days are rough. But after the sugar is out of my system, I'm fine.

Same here, I did really well the first several months after banding controlling the sugar and now it is controlling me again. Hence why I am giving up sweets/dessert for Lent.

They have a rule that if people are waiting, you can only do 20 minutes of cardio. While I understand that people don't like to wait, I was not ready to get off! I only ran 2.83 miles.

Wow, only 20 minutes?! I thought our 30 minute rule was crazy!

  11. I have had a few minor complications (one overfill which was miserable and now I need my gallbladder out due to excessive rapid weight loss) but I have absolutely ZERO regrets. I feel great, can still eat pretty much anything, just less. I am a runner now...I would have never imagined that.

The band has been the very greatest thing I have ever done for myself...there is nothing that I personally miss enough to *regret* the band.

  12. ... and I think I may give the nike running tool a try... does it only work with nike shoes or can you put the chip in other shoes?

Those of you that have the nike running tool, is it worth it?

Regarding training, do any of you ever run 2 days in a row or is it best to have a rest day in between?

I love my Nike+ and would love it even more if I could get it properly calibrated...it is typically a tenth of a mile low. I can't wear Nike shoes, so I have a sensor pouch. Started with this one ( [ame=http://www.amazon.com/Marware-Sportsuit-Sensor-Sport-Black/dp/B000ID6DTG?&camp=212361&linkCode=wsw&tag=podophile-20&creative=380789]Amazon.com: Marware Sportsuit Sensor Case for Nike + iPod Sport Kit for iPod nano 3G (Black): Electronics[/ame] ) and hated it. Found this one ( [ame=http://www.switcheasy.com/products/Runaway/Runaway.php#]Welcome to SwitchEasy[/ame] ) and love it.

As for running days, there have been numerous times I have ran 2 days in a row and I noticed no ill effects. I personally can't run 3 days in a row (as I rudely found out) but I also have a unique situation with my health.

  13. Welcome! I am also a military wife and had lap band done last summer. I have had a few bumps along the way, but still think this was the best thing I have EVER done for myself. Sure, I worried about the what if's, but I also worried about the what if's if I didn't get it done.

You have to be ready, but you'll definitely find support here!

  14. I had mine out in '89. Open! They do it lap these days and it's not that big a deal. Plus no more gallbladder attacks!
DeGirl... I had mine out in 1993, when laproscopic was really new. I recovered very quickly and was back to work in 3 days (had to... no sick pay then). The lapband surgery was pretty similar for me, so don't worry, its no big deal! BTW, did you read Whosya's post a long time ago about writing the word Cancer on the bottom of your running shoes? That way every time you run, you're stomping out cancer! I did it, as its such a family medical tradition!

Thanks ladies! I just wonder how long it will keep me out of running..hopefully not too long, I go nuts not running at least a few times a week now.

As for the cancer on the shoe, I have thought about it but still never done it. Most days it doesn't bother me, nor do I give it a second thought...this was just a bad week.

Lacey - My daughter's name is Lacey, she is 26!!! My son just turned 30! ouch! that hurt me. Anyway, I still love the name Lacey and as fate would have it; she is a children's clothing designer for Justice, just for girls. "Lacey is a perfect name for a clothing designer, don't you think?

Cool, I have only *met* one other person with my name. My daughter's name is Jacey, I like unique names.

So, I ran today but got to the gym without my Nike+ receiver (sorry, teammates). I was going to do my long run but didn't since I couldn't track it. Hopefully the gym won't be crowded tomorrow, so I can do my long run.

  15. Happy Valentine's Day

I thought I was pop in a say what is going on with me. A few weeks ago, I got suddenly very tight when my cycle came...tightness never left. There were days I was in so much pain, Water wouldn't go down. Doc did a complete unfill and several tests...come to find out I have gallstones and am going to have to have the gallbladder removed. So, those of you getting constantly stuck may not be stuck at all...it may gallstone pain. Just a thought...

  16. I ran yesterday and today, but they weren't me best runs. It's been a rough week, my 1 year cancer diagnosis anniversary and then today found out my gallbladder has to come out. Have any of you had to have yours removed?

I hope that the surgery can be scheduled soon (if it has to happen), for selfish reasons. I HAVE to run the Gate-to-Gate 4.4 mile run this year...LOL!
