  1. Hi Mary! Congrats on your banding. I'm in Niceville but Dr. Nye in P'Cola did my surgery.

    Couch to 5k.....come join me!!

Welcome! I think all of Kathy's suggestions are great, but also wondered are you at 1000-1200 calories before or after subtracting exercise calories? You might not be getting enough. I know with myself, I can't get any less than 1200 calories net (after exercise), keep up with my running and lose. Anything lower and my weight stalls and energy plummets. It took me a bit of experimenting to figure that out.

    results not typical

I have lost faster (and more) than my doc even expected at right under 9 months out. I have been completely unfilled since February 4th and on pretty much a plateau since then. So, needless to say most of my loss was in the first 6 months. One thing to think about though, is that the more you have to lose, typically the faster it comes off in the beginning.

Kathy, have you tried resetting it? I don't remember exactly, but I think it is hold the center and menu button at the same time till the apple appears (you can google it to be sure). Any time mine is acting goofy, that fixes it. I am finally getting back in my groove after my gallbladder removal, the last two to three runs haven't been a struggle like the first few after surgery were. So, needless to say I am happy...now to just wait on the 27th to get cleared for strength training again (and a fill)! BTW, I finally hit 70 pounds lost, in the 8.5 months since my surgery!! Since my complete unfill, I have been bouncing around with the same darn 5 pounds! thatDEgirl - RUNNER+

How awesome Kathy!! My scale says 38% for me...not sure if that is right or not, since I have never tested it anywhere else.

    July Butterflies Master Thread

What kinds of pain are you having? I thought my pain was because I was too tight and it turned out to be gallstones. I had my gallbladder taken out last week and get to start fills again on April 27th (I have been completely unfilled since Feb 4th).

Hey Kathy, it went well, thanks for asking. Way less pain than I expected. I go tomorrow to get the stitches out and hopefully get the all clear to go back to "life as normal". I am antsy to get back to running. I hope your tummy feels better soon, some meds are just so harsh on our systems.

Which Weight Is The One You Count?

I track the weight at home each Monday morning as well as the weight at the dr office. I change my tickers though, based off my home weight.

Oh no, no worries...I am actually extending his guidelines. He says I can run after 7 days but I am leaning towards not running for 14. Thanks all, for the comments...I am ready for it to be over. I have my *farewell* run today, so I plan to savor it...LOL!

I had my pre-op yesterday and he said no driving for 3 days and no running for 7. I'll play it by ear though, I am immunocompromised, so I don't want to hinder healing. I thought about walking only for a week and then back into running. We shall see. Best part though, no nasty pre and/or post-op diet...LOL!

LOL! Don't worry too much about my mileage, it will soon go drastically down for a few weeks. My gallbladder removal is Monday.

    Using straws

I asked my surgeon before surgery, since I use them all the time and was not looking forward to stopping. He said he didn't see any reason why not to. If the extra air bothers me, then stop but otherwise, don't worry about it. 7 months later, no issues.

    Couch to 5k.....come join me!!

I had my 5K yesterday, the first one that I have officially RAN the whole way. I came in at 36:01. I really wanted a sub 35 number (which I know I can do) but the 96% humidity and 22mph wind gusts were working against me. I'd like to do another in April, but we shall see. I have my gallbladder out March 9th and I am not sure how long they'll want me to stop running...if not, next one is a 4.4 mile in May.

    Couch to 5k.....come join me!!

So, I thought my next race was going to be the Gate-to-Gate 4.4 mile run on Memorial Day, but I took the plunge and entered a 5K on Saturday. With my upcoming gallbladder surgery, we don't know 100% about the GtG anymore...blah. I won't get to run today, since my dh has his AF PT test, so I'll run Friday morning. Between a short run Friday morning and the 5K, I should hit 40+ miles this month...the most I have ran so far. thatDEgirl - RUNNER+

Same here, I did really well the first several months after banding controlling the sugar and now it is controlling me again. Hence why I am giving up sweets/dessert for Lent. Wow, only 20 minutes?! I thought our 30 minute rule was crazy!
  22. I have had a few minor complications (one overfill which was miserable and now I need my gallbladder out due to excessive rapid weight loss) but I have absolutely ZERO regrets. I feel great, can still eat pretty much anything, just less. I am a runner now...I would have never imagined that. The band has been the very greatest thing I have ever done for myself...there is nothing that I personally miss enough to *regret* the band.

I love my Nike+ and would love it even more if I could get it properly calibrated...it is typically a tenth of a mile low. I can't wear Nike shoes, so I have a sensor pouch. Started with this one ( [ame=http://www.amazon.com/Marware-Sportsuit-Sensor-Sport-Black/dp/B000ID6DTG?&camp=212361&linkCode=wsw&tag=podophile-20&creative=380789]Amazon.com: Marware Sportsuit Sensor Case for Nike + iPod Sport Kit for iPod nano 3G (Black): Electronics[/ame] ) and hated it. Found this one ( [ame=http://www.switcheasy.com/products/Runaway/Runaway.php#]Welcome to SwitchEasy[/ame] ) and love it. As for running days, there have been numerous times I have ran 2 days in a row and I noticed no ill effects. I personally can't run 3 days in a row (as I rudely found out) but I also have a unique situation with my health.

There are several out there, but not made by Nike. Do a search for c25k or couch to 5k podcast. I personally used Robert Ulrey's until about week 7 or so when I could no longer stand his music choices...LOL!

    Putting myself first....

Welcome! I am also a military wife and had lap band done last summer. I have had a few bumps along the way, but still think this was the best thing I have EVER done for myself. Sure, I worried about the what if's, but I also worried about the what if's if I didn't get it done. You have to be ready, but you'll definitely find support here!
