Have you had chemotherapy after banding?
thatDEgirl replied to Paulax's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
While I have not had to have chemo yet, I did get banded with stage 0 CLL and will eventually have to have chemo and a bone marrow transplant. The lapband is the only wls that my oncologist would approve because then she said I could be unfilled during chemo to get adequate nutrition. You are in my prayers! -
Really, I think the more conservative the doc, the better because by the time you get a fill, you are good and healed with less chance of complications. Although I have been itching for a fill, I am glad he made me wait (I get it Sept 8th).

My doctor looked at me like I was nuts when I asked if I could use a straw. He doesn't care, he thinks if I make it cause a problem, I will know...LOL!

Do you give yourself calorie credit for exercise?
thatDEgirl replied to Shinyhappymommy's topic in Fitness & Exercise
LOL! I guess maybe I should proofread before hitting send :-) -
I've tried thrift stores and goowill with no luck. I just bought a few shirts and khakis on oldnavy.com's clearance section. $6.99 polo's and $15 khaki capris. I also bought a few dresses since they will last a bit longer through sizes than pants will.

I too use thedailyplate and it accounts for my exercise. You may not need to add each and every calorie back that you exercise off, but you must ass some or you will start burning muscle. -

Olive Garden NOT accomadating!!
thatDEgirl replied to MeganMatters's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I think it would be nice for them to let us always order from the kids menu's but, like another poster said they don't have too... I was worried when we went to Reb Lobster the other day, but our waiter let me get a kid's meal, no questions asked. -

between meals hunger
thatDEgirl replied to MADE IT 2 MY GOAL..OH YEAH's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You may want to call and check in with your surgeon. Mine read 2oz 3x a day and I was STARVING. Like my stomach was rumbling so bad that you could hear it across the room. My surgeons office said that the booklet was more aimed at gastric bypass patients and the lb patients could either have a snack or eat a bit more. So, if you are starving, give a call....it can't hurt. -
How much have you lost July Butterfllies??

Confused and in CHINA!
thatDEgirl replied to mmejia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My personal opinion is that you shouldn't get the band if you do not have easy access to safe, aftercare. The band is not a place and go device, fills are needed regularly for the band to work and things *can* go wrong. Do you have a plan for the what if's? Just my opinion of course :-) -

denied by tricare...lost all hop
thatDEgirl replied to seriousaboutit's topic in Insurance & Financing
Tricare is usually VERY easy to get approved by IF you meet the requirements. TRICARE only covers morbid obesity surgery such as gastric bypass, gastric stapling, adjustable gastric banding and gastroplasty when the beneficiary meets one of the following conditions: Is 100 pounds over ideal weight for height and bone structure and has one of these associated conditions: diabetes mellitus, hypertension, cholecystitis, narcolepsy, Pickwickian syndrome, hypothalamic disorders or severe arthritis of the weight-bearing joints Is 200 percent or more over ideal weight for height and bone structure Has had intestinal bypass or other surgery for obesity and because of complications, requires another surgery As for the conditions, they must not only be noted but my surgeon told me you also had to be treated for them. Not 100% sure on that part. -
started eating solid foods... have a question
thatDEgirl replied to Missprdiva's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The main issue is washing food through the band and either being able to eat more than you should or not staying full as long as you could. Therefore hindering weight loss...I'm sure you will be fine, just start over :-). -
I hope you are pain free soon! My doc thought I was nuts asking about straw use...he's never recommended against it.

Yucky Protein/Carb Blocker Drink...HELP!!!
thatDEgirl replied to rodriguezequal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'd call your surgeon and ask. I do think it is interesting though, since the EAS AdvantEdge CarbControl are the only protein shakes I can stomach. -
Drinking from a straw...
thatDEgirl replied to PaulaTx's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I asked my doc about this after reading no straw use on here. I was really annoyed because I hate not using a straw. He personally didn't care, so I use one all the time and no issues. -
I just want to remind everyone, to remember that no bc is 100% effective (I know we all know that but :-). My SIL got pregnant on the pill and I have had 2 friends get pregnant with an IUD. One had twins...oy!

Poll: Time off between surgery and work
thatDEgirl replied to laphappy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had surgery on 7/25 (Fri) and went back to work 8/4 (Mon). it ended up being 9 days but that is because I only work M-Th. I could have gone back by 4-5 days post-op. My job is 75% desk and 25% running around the building taking stairs, etc.
