  1. So, all week I knew I was going out to dinner with my dh and our good friends to our favorite mexican restraunt. I thought all week about if I was gonna eat carbs and go crazy or not. My friend and I love to indulge in the margaritas which is something I havent had in months. So after much thought, I decided to go with a low carb meal (blackened chicken salad with ranch dressing--very little dressing btw) and I had a large AND a small margarita. Our friends came back to the house where I had 2 rum and diet cokes. I woke up this morning with a THREE pound gain. I have to admit, I kept saying I wasn't going to beat myself up about it, and I am trying not to, but THREE pounds?!?!? REALLY??? Thats the downside to low carbing it. You lose fast but you gain it back even faster.

My husband has an awards banquet that we are going to at the end of this month and I wanted to lose 10 pounds before the banquet...I had already lost 5 of those pounds and now I have to lose 8 pounds! grrrrr. I do know this. In the past I would have said "well I already cheated, now I am depressed, so now I am going to eat some more bad stuff" NOT THIS TIME! That was the old me. The new me can enjoy a splurge once in awhile and then get focused and get back on track! I drank a Protein Shake this morning and I am working on my water! My the end of this week I will lose those 3 pounds!

  2. lyn--correction--renewed started this thread, but I would gladly take credit for it...its been amazing! Just kidding but BIG thanks to renewed! I have never felt such support for anything in my life like I do here. I think this and the low-carb thread has really changed my life. This is what I needed! Support! All of the other failed attempts to lose weight I was missing this. This time I have a new attitude and Imnot just doing it by willpower alone. This is the first time I am losing weight without the anger that I have had in the past, or the jealousy, or the desperation. I am doing it all on my own terms and doing it because I WANT to, not because I have to. Which brings me to another topic...

I was talking with my best friend whose sister just had RnY. My bff is like a sister to me. She is seriously my bff soulmate. We have a connection like I have never seen. She said she will be totally supportive if I get the lap-band, but we got to talking and was saying what would happen if I DID NOT get the band. How will I feel if my denial letter or call comes. She has noticed a different attitude with this time I am losing weight. She said its like I finally am losing for the right reasons. I have been very successful so far and she has seen me lose weight a million times, but she and I both feel that this time its different. This time its forever. I will not be crushed if I get denied the band. Like everyone said, the band is just a tool. I feel like this support group is the biggest tool I have ever had in my life (an no...Im not calling you a bunch of tools! :wink2:) I just hope that if I am denied a lapband that you guys will still accept me here on this thread and lowcarb thread. I need you guys in my life! Seems like I can't get through the day without checkin in atleast 3 times a day! I have a feeling the band will be denied through my insurance because I need a bmi of 40 for the last 5 years and I haven't had that. Its dipped below a few times. At first I was desperate for the band, but as the weight comes off, I think less and less about getting it. Anyway, thos are some random thoughts I am having this morning.

Oh as far as Tummy Tuck, I already know I will need one and I know dh will pay for one. I always watch tummy tuck and breast implants surgeries on tv and one day my husband was watching with me and he said "I wonder what a tummy tuck costs?" and I told him. I told him that I want one (what I meant was I will need one) and he was ready to sign me up! I had to explain to him that I needed to lose 100 pounds first and THEN I get a tummy tuck. It was pretty funny. He thought they could just suck ALL this fat out of my stomach (seriously like 40 pounds of fat in my stomach alone!) and then just cut off all the extra skin. I wish it was that easy! haha!

  3. Wow Jeter, I am totally overwhelmed by your story and sounds like to me you need a big hug!!! Your sister probably feels guilty about how much more you are doing for your mother than she is...and the only thing that makes her feel better is to talk bad about you. Trust me, this has NOTHING to do with you. I am sure it is all about what she feels about herself. Trust me when I say 211 is NOT disgusting. There are several people on this very site (myself included) that can't wait until we get down to 211 pounds...and within a couple of months (or sooner!) you will be on ONEderland. You totally need a break from your sister. Stop answering her phone calls and stop all contact with her (for awhile atleast) She is bringing negative thoughts and you don't need that in your life. You have done a wonderful thing by getting banded and changing your life and you don't need someone else bad mouthing you or making you feel bad about yourself. You should feel proud about your decisions. My sister lives in the same town and I only speak to her on holidays because she is full of negativity (and shes a compulsive liar) and I don't want that in my life or in my childrens lives. I can only take her in small doses.

As far as your mother is concerned, you deserve a medal for taking care of her. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't wish I had done more in my mothers final months here on earth. My mother died at 48 and I was in an abusive marriage and I didn't get to spend enough time with her at the end. You keep doing what you are doing and your rewards will be far greater in the afterlife than you could even imagine. (sorry to if that was too preachy). See if you can find help elsewhere for your mom on the days you can't seem to do everything or try to pile up all your moms to-dos in a couple of days a week (shopping, doctors, ect)

These are just a couple of ideas I had anyway, I may not have the right answer tho, but your sister words are poison...and if she asks why you haven't called just say "Im busy living my life".

  4. Aughhhh he was back again today!! There are 7 treadmills all lined up in a row. No one is on any of the when I got there. I picked the second one...then shoe guy comes in a picks the one RIGHT NEXT TO ME! WHY!?!?! He tied his shoes 7 times during his run today...I counted! I was so mad. I couldn't tell if he kept looking at me during his runs or if he was looking at the mirror on the wall but he kept looking in my direction. Maybe thats his way of trying to get my attention but the only thing that is going to get him is a punch in the face! Shoe guy better watch out!!

Leslie, I know what you mean about dh not exercising with you. Mine is the same way. He thinks playing catch a few times a week with our youngest son is enough exercise. We joined the Y a few years ago and he played raquetball a few times and we had a blast, but he didn't keep it up. He NEVER did cardio or strength training. I don't know what his problem was!

  5. Renewed!!! :biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::lol::lol::lol::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

CONGRATS!! I would like to ditto everything already said. You are an inspiration to us all. You have shown us that it can be done---even though I know my speed wont be NEAR that fast when I am doing it next week--or attempting to do it!

I loved your little comments about us runners and about your family! Thanks for the success story to keep us all motivated!

  6. Sheesh, what a workout this morning. I was so excited to do day 2 of week 4 and right after the warm up a guy got on the treadmill right next to me and he immediately turned the treadmill to fast run and was making a lot of noise with his feet and I looked over and he was holding onto the side handles and slamming his feet down as he ran. He would do that for about a minute and half and then stop treadmill tie his shoes, stand up, run fast normally for a minute, stop it, adjust shoes, start up and stomp/run again, stop, tie shoes, run regular----and he kept up that pattern during MY entire run!!! It was so annoying. I had to just keep looking forward out the window and TRY to tune him out. I even had my ipod turned up and could still feel his feet stomping. I thought for a minute he was wearing work boots his feet were so loud!

  7. Now that I have lost almost 25 pounds I can tell in some places on my body that I have lost a lot of weight and other parts, not so much. I know I still have a lot more to go, but my waist is shrinking so fast since I started to lose weight in June. The sides of my waistline had NO CURVE just 6 weeks ago and all of a sudden the curve has come back! I keep putting my hands on my waist because I can't believe what a difference I have made in such a short amt of time. Also, my legs have toned up quite a bit already. I have really noticed a big difference in the muscles in my legs and my core muscles since I started Wii Fit and running. I always make sure my core muscles are tight when I am running.

so, my question for you, since you started your weightloss journey, where is the one place on your body you can't stop looking at, or touching (ok....nothing naughty here:eek:) because you can't believe how much that part has changed.

  8. What are all you low carb bansters doing about Constipation. Last night I thought I was going to die.

Im not banded yet, but I put 4 teaspoons of benefiber in my morning Protein Shake and 2 teaspoons in my afternoon sweet tea (made with splenda) and it seems to help a little. Still wish it would work a little better though. I am thinking of switching to citricel (sp) and see if that works even better.

  9. I did it! I did week 4 day one and I was surprised to see that I kept my breathing at an even pace which really helped me get through it. I kind of zone out a little a focus on breathing rather than time or surrounding distractions (all the tvs and other people in the gym) It felt soooo good!!! I hope the rest of the week goes that smoothly!

One question...I have always had very muscular calves...like a big ball of muscle on each legs when I flex. Is running going to make that muscle bigger or will in lengthen the muscle? The reason I ask is because I would really like to buy some knee high boots this winter but I have NEVER been able to because of my calf size (even in my skinnier days!) I would love to be able to lengthen that muscle. Do you know of any exercises that will do that--or is it just stretching that will help? (okay that was more than one question)<----well I just searched several websites and they all say one thing---its genetic so just embrace it...grrrrr. I have always gotten compliments on my calves, for as long I can remember my legs have been muscular, it just seems like boots are made for skinny calves only!

  10. Girls I am going to have Endo Venous Laser Treatment (EVLT) on my leg tomorrow to get rid of varicose veins (It is lovely to have inherieted my mother's legs) I am doing one leg this week and one leg next week. I am afraid the doc will tell me no running  I am getting ready to start week 4. If I can't run for two weeks, should I just start over or repeat week 3? I'll see what the doc says about running in the morning.

Sugar--I had EVLT done in January and I was so happy I did. It looks and feels so much better! You will be happy after it heals...and you get back to running. I HATED wearing those freaking support stockings though. I don't even like wearing pantyhose, so the support hose were killing me. I had to wear them for a couple weeks before and after surgery. They were a pain to get off and on---super tight, but they were warm and the only good thing was that I had the surgery during the winter. Also, you may not be able to run, but you HAVE to walk everyday after surgery...so atleast you will be able to get some

    exercise.

  11. Kathy,

I don't really have an answer to your question, but I know what you are saying. I can't drink ANY Water, not even a cup of water before I do my run because I feel like I am having to hold my bladder the whole time. I drink my Breakfast shake first thing in the am and try to go to the gym for my run before I start chugging my water. I have to do my whole run before I take a single drink of water. At the gym I go to, the treadmills are upstairs and the bathrooms are downstairs at the opposite end of the gym. Also, as I have gotten older I don't really have the slight feeling of having to go to the bathroom, its more like nothing...nothing...nothing...OMG I GOTTA GO NOW!!!!

  12. I went to a baseball game last night were my friends and family were eating EVERYTHING--nachos, pretzels, cotton candy, hot dogs, pizza, cracker jacks---you name it and somebody had it! Do you know what I had??? A low carb bar and some peanuts. I was so proud, and I got on the scales and it dropped a pound and half from yesterday!!! Woo Hoo!

Hey, btw, look at my ticker---I am no longer Morbidly Obese---Im "just" obese! HAHAHA! Woo Hoo!!

  13. whosya,

I am glad to see you are setting such a good example for your daughter. My husband and I are kind of in a disagreement right now. He was terribly upset that the wii fit said that my son was obese and now my son keeps saying it and now he is obsessed with working out. The kid has AWAYS been active...very active. Yesterday he worked out on the wii fit and did the ddr for 2 hours! He was happy today when he got on the wii fit and it said he had lost 2 pounds but was still obese. While I do agree that I was not happy that the Fit called him obese, I do think he needs to be aware that he needs to be healthy and needs to be aware of what he eats and how much exercise he gets. If he is already obese at 7, we need to get it under control or it will only get worse. I was upset with my husband last night when after dinner (and after 2 hours of Anthony working out) he gave Anthony a box of crackers and let him sit on the couch with it. I don't want to be food and exercise police but I just said "Anthony if you are hungry for crackers, I will put some in a bowl for you" and I got out a tiny little bowl that only held 6 crackers and a slice of cheese that I tore up for him. If I wouldn't have stepped in, he would have had tons of crackers!!! I am not strict with my son, because I don't want to have issues with his self confidence. He is so proud of how "healthy and strong" he is because he had the high score rank in almost every catagory on the wii fit.

Also, whosya---great job on your record breaking time!!! woo hoo!

Ohhh while doing week 3, day 3 today I was wiped out, I was breathing a lot harder. i don't know if I should repeat the week or just chalk it up to just having a bad day.

  14. I am freaking out. I have been looking almost obsessively for a wii fit and today I went back to school shopping for my son and he asked if we could into gamestop at the mall to look for a wii fit since we were just passing by. I was thinking "yeah right...like this little store is actually going to have one" sooooo....I asked....and they DID!!!

So my kids and I have been playing around on it for a few hours and here are my thoughts on something I wanted sooo badly.

Cons: I think renewed said it in an earlier post, most games don't get your heart rate up. There is some running in place games that do but they don't require the board. I hope that the step aerobics gets better..I don't know if you earn harder levels for it. There is too much down time between each 1-2 minute exercise to keep your heart rate up. I wish several of the minigames were atleast a few minutes longer. Although I LOVED the bmi tracking tool, I felt horrible when my 7 year old got on for body measurements and he was in obese category. I just explained that now we get to have a lot of fun while we get healthy.

Pros: I really worked a lot of muscles in my body that don't ever get used and even though I didn't feel like my heart rate was really that increased I did break a sweat doing a lot of those games. The yoga poses were something I wasn't even thinking about when I bought the game and I really enjoyed doing them. I think this is a GREAT tool to tone your body. I love that it tracks your bmi and your amt of time and you can even set your weightloss goals on it. Strength training exercises are pretty good and the balance games crack me up. Sometimes I get to laughing and it really throws my balance off!

Now I will have to add wii fit into my daily exercise...on top of the running and DDR...I never thought I could enjoy exercise this much!

  15. My 11 year old boy child and I did DDR (Dance, Dance, Revolution) last night. Then I woke up early, it was raining, went back to sleep, woke up later (the rain stopped) and we went running (WK3 Day 2) It was nice to have a buddy. He is so supportive, which makes me proud of him (and me)

Maybe I could get my 12 year old to do the same...he's so anti-exercise, but I make him ride the stationary bike everyday. He has cystic fibrosis and needs to watch so he doesn't get too underweight. His last appt he had lost 5 pounds. The doctor said he was still avg weight for his age but he can't lose any more. My 7 year old is overweight and it makes me so sad. He is extremely active, loves sports, plays non-stop outside, does ddr with me and still struggles with his weight. He CAN put away the food, but we have tried to make healthier choices, still the weight isn't coming off. I feel guilty about it...passing down the fat genes.

  16. I had my psych evaluation today. He agreed with doctor that I was a perfect candidate for lapband. I felt like I talked to much during my eval and he took millions of little notes, but after all was said and done...it was a success! Now I have to meet with dietitian in August. I could have gotten in sooner, but I wanted to wait for kids to get into school so I don't have to find a sitter or take them with me (dr is an hour away) He also recommends I go to support meetings...which I have already been to one...he just wants me to continue once a month until surgery (and then after surgery). No word on insurance approval tho.

  17. I will have to pay more attention to the chime..from the podrunner chart I SHOULD be running for 3 minutes immediately before cooldown...if I am looking the chart right?!?!

    WEEK 3

    25 minutes from 130 to 140 BPM

    BPM CHART:

    5-minute warmup @ 130 BPM-walk

    90 seconds @ 140 BPM-run

    90 seconds @ 130 BPM=walk

    3 minutes @ 140 BPM-run

    3 minutes @ 130 BPM-walk

    90 seconds @ 140 BPM-run

    90 seconds @ 130 BPM-walk

    3 minutes @ 140 BPM-run

    4-minute 10-second cooldown @ 130 BPM=walk

  18. RENEWED!!!

Remember when you said you ran right through your cool down in week 3?? Well today was my day one week 3 and I was walking when I heard the cool down chime...I was like WTH??? Aren't we usually running when we hear the cool down chime??? I think I may have skipped a run but i don't know how I could have done that! I am gonna look at the chart to see what the times are and try to figure out what I did wrong. My miles where exactly the same when I finished today as they were when I did week two 1.63...thats with walking at 3.0 and running at 4.0.

The runs were long...but not as bad as I had anticpated.

  19. congrats to you mamato3! I can only imagine what it feels like to be in ONEderland, but now you are just enough in ONEderland where you can say "I will NEVER be 200 lbs again!" I always say when I am 5lbs or more away from a big number that I will never be 260, 255, 250, and as of this morning I will NEVER be 245 again. THAT feels great!
