    Couch to 5k.....come join me!!

RENEWED!!! Remember when you said you ran right through your cool down in week 3?? Well today was my day one week 3 and I was walking when I heard the cool down chime...I was like WTH??? Aren't we usually running when we hear the cool down chime??? I think I may have skipped a run but i don't know how I could have done that! I am gonna look at the chart to see what the times are and try to figure out what I did wrong. My miles where exactly the same when I finished today as they were when I did week two 1.63...thats with walking at 3.0 and running at 4.0. The runs were long...but not as bad as I had anticpated.

congrats to you mamato3! I can only imagine what it feels like to be in ONEderland, but now you are just enough in ONEderland where you can say "I will NEVER be 200 lbs again!" I always say when I am 5lbs or more away from a big number that I will never be 260, 255, 250, and as of this morning I will NEVER be 245 again. THAT feels great!

Kathy DDR = Dance Dance Revolution. Its a dance pad that you hook up to a gaming system (our is a wii) and it plays a bunch of dance songs and you dance to the beat (and arrows streaming across the screen). There are different levels but even beginner level is intense---atleast it was for me. It took me awhile to move up from beginner level. Its great with the wii because you hold the controllers in your hands and the sensors read your hand movements too...this is part of the dancing so you work out your arms as well. Its so much fun!!!

I check everyday online at best buy for a wii fit and pop into a few stores and check for one on a regular basis with no luck! We really want to get one too. I hope to have it by Christmas! Does anyone take a day or two off working out during the week? I was thinking I should but I have too much guilt about it...plus I really WANT to play DDR today. Its my obsession (other thank LBT). I love that I am drenched in sweat when I am done (how weird is that?) because before ddr, no matter what exercise I did, no matter how out of breath I was, I would never REALLY sweat...and I am talking aerobic classes, rollerblading, step aerobics, biking...whatever! I read somewhere about how you need to sweat and once your body "teaches" itself to sweat you are release toxins..and then you begin to break into a sweat earlier in the workouts...its actually a GOOD thing. Now within 10 minutes of C25K I am sweating as well. OK enough with the sweat talk---am I grossing you out yet?

I usually work out within 30 minutes of having a protein shake for breakfast. It gives me a lot of energy. I notice on the mornings I don't hit the gym after the drink I am buzzin around with lots of energy. While walking sometimes I take sips of water, but I am afraid I will spill or drop it if I try to chug and walk at the same time. I dont want to pause the treadmill to take drinks. I just want to get that workout done and THEN chug water! I guess when I am banded there will be no more chugging!

    Diving in.....

Hello Pat! Your story sounds so much like mine---almost identical! I to have lost a lot of weight and gained it back pretty quickly because I never totally stuck anything. My last attempt also being weight watchers. I am currently waiting for approval for surgery but losing weight by eating low carb (I have done this before and it really worked---just another thing I didn't stick it out). My bff's sister and one of her friends both had gastric bypass and have had severe complications (one is now 98 pounds and on a feeding tube and in a wheelchair and the other has had 2 other surgeries because of complications and she just got RnY in Sept '07) I have made up my mind that I am not going to let food control my life---not one more day! On 6/16/08 I had enough and took control and started exercising and watching what I eat. I have lost almost 20 pounds and even though the past 2 weeks I haven't really seen a loss, its not going to stop me. I will do it this time WITH or WITHOUT the band. My biggest problem is that when I get off of a diet its all or nothing...and mostly its ALL, which has caused me to gain it all back everytime. I think if I am banded it will prevent me the big binge eating that I have done in the past. I wish you the best, keep hanging out here and you will learn so much from everyone---the good and the bad. I have made some good friends on here and have learned so much about being banded.

well looks like I will be going back to induction phase of low carb diet. I have been going back and forth between trace and NO ketosis. I have no idea what happened. I did add pork rinds and some low carb creamy salsa but still kept carbs below 30 all week. I also added some mixed nuts but still kept carbs low. I did nothing else different. Maybe there was some hidden sugars in there somewhere. I have no idea..I threw it out after 3 pound gain. I was hoping those three pounds were a fluke and would be gone in a couple of days but I am still struggling to lose them. When my granola mother earth vegan sister was here from california she left 3 boxes of cereal here...all kashi cereals. I would really love to have a bowl but it wouldn't do much for ketosis. I am going to keep them around though until I found out how renewed is doing on her adding of the carbs!

week 2 is done...woo hoo!!! So I finished today soaked in sweat, heartbeat was at max level, but I didn't feel like I was dying. Now I am worried about going up to week 3. I felt good about week 2 and thought it was an excellent workout for me and I am feeling a little chicken about moving to week 3. Before doing my C25K today I did ddr for 45 minutes. So I got plenty of cardio in today!

renewed---of course you can still hang out here...low carb or not. I really wish you the best! You really have to do what is best for you and your body! Keep us updated on new food changes.

3 pound gain with NO REASON FOR IT!! and I am not moving ticker!! Carbs were under 30 for day yesterday, I drank all my Water, I did cardio for an hour and I got on the scales today and I was up THREE pounds!!! I know its GOTTA be some water retention or something weird because I didn't even eat 3lbs of food! I am trying so desperately to get under 240 by the end of the month and after hovering around 240-241 for a week to have a 3 pound gain makes me CRAZY! I still have time to get there but grrrrrr...

:eek: I think in my whole adult life I have NEVER swallowed my gum, so I never thought of the risk of actually choking on it! Maybe I should try to ween myself from chewing it! YIKES!:eek::eek:

I think not only is exercise more mental for my that physical but the whole weightloss procedure is more of a mental thing for me. On the treadmill within a week I went from thinking "Oh please Lord let me get through this interval" to "Just keep going and you will get to goal...its a race to the goal!!!" Weightloss is the same way. Its a constant battle between good and evil, bad decisions and good ones. It is battling my old way of thinking vs the "new me". Its knowing when to say "Enough is enough!" and to just say "NO!"

McGreen I think I will definately speed up my walk more and maybe my run a little more. I don't want to kill myself or get discouraged, but I noticed that my heart rate isn't as high as it was a week ago because the workout feels a little "easier"---and by easier I don't mean EASY! I will let everyone know what I do on friday when I do my next run!

I know what you mean about waddling...its kind of funny because when I am "running" at 4.0 and thinking woo hoo...look at me running and then I get a glimpse in the mirror that runs the whole side of the gym and actually see my running it is totally laughable! It doesn't look like running from THAT view....but I keep up with my stride and I am not struggling to keep up with the belt on the treadmill. When I first started I found that I kept riding back a little on the treadmill and then would have to do some sprint kind of runs to get back up to front of the treadmill. Within a week I could stay steady at the front of the treadmill. THAT was an accomplishment! I know bandsters are not supposed to chew gum but I find I breathe smoother when I have gum in my mouth. Without the gum I tend to "forget" to breathe...not really, but I seem to hold my breath more. Am I the only one?!?!

g-girl, you will love your Wii. My kids have 3 different systems and I only play the Wii. I really want to get Wii Fit but its sold out just about everywhere I check. I told my husband I would like it for Christmas but I have already started shopping for it. It looks like a lot of fun. I just hope the workout is as intense as DDR. Yes, I started C25K before being banded and started changing my eating habits because I wanted to prove to myself that THIS is the time. I am tired of life passing me by. We travel a lot and I have a great life, but I am tired of my every thought being consumed with weight. I want to really LIVE and LOVE the life I have and I am going to do it with or without the band. I have never really had a problem with losing the weight, but I had a huge problem with binge eating in the past and I kept gaining everything back. I think the band will prevent me from binging like I have done in the past. The first week was tough and I kept thinking that someone my size should NOT be running. This week I am feeling great and I can actually visualize myself in the future be a real runner...and I haven't really lost much weight in the past week, but this C25K program I believe is really going to work!

A couple of months ago we bought Dance Dance Revolution (DDR) for the Wii and I had been doing it off and on since we got it. Since the day we got it I fell in love with it. Its so much fun. Well I recently discovered the workout mode on it that you can set a certain number of minutes or calories that you want to burn and it will keep track of it for you. For the last 3 days I have been setting it to 30 minutes and I end up drenched in sweat by the time I am done. I LOOOVE dancing anyway and this makes it so much fun! Today I did DDR before my c25k and I was so pumped at the end of 30 minutes so I went to gym (2 minutes away) and jumped on the treadmill and was even better at my run! The 3.0 that I had been walking almost felt a little slow compared to other times I had been doing it and I had no problem running at 4.0. I just think my body was really warmed up from all that dancing. I don't know if I should increase my speed before I get to week 3. Do you think I am ready for a slight speed increase. I am worried about week 3 since a few of you said it was harder! Hope you are all having a great week!

Wendy- I would love to hear some explanations behind this as well. It doesn't make much since to me either. I do know sometimes after days of exercise and I take a day off, the next day I seem to drop a pound...whats up with that? I have been exercising 5 days a week with 3 being c25k and the other 2 being either bike or something else.

renewed--if you lost muscle wouldn't that be because you arent getting enough protein...which with low carb I am sure you are getting plenty of protein! I don't get it. How did he measure that it was muscle loss instead of fat? I know at Curves they had a machine that measured it. Sorry I don't have any answers for you. I am a paranoid person and I would be afraid if I started adding carbs I would start gaining. I guess you could start slowly by adding more veggies and a fruit a day...but there goes ketosis!
  23. It wasnt just one thing for me. It was a whole combination of events and failed diets that led up to lap-band decision...and I am still waiting for approval! Not fitting into a new rollercoaster that my friends got to ride without me. Looking at my old "fat" pictures and wishing I looked like that again! Looking at my current fat pictures and thinking "Is that REALLY me and WHY did I let myself get like that??" And the most important reason is that my 12 year old son has cystic fibrosis and the median age of survival is 36. I don't want my son to have to take care of his out of shape, unhealthy, and possibly really sick mother when he could be fighting for his own life. I need to get and STAY as healthy as I can so I will be here in case his health takes a turn for the worse. btw, I am not sure if I will get approved for lap-band but I have made the decision that I will lose this weight with or without the band! Down almost 20 pounds so far!!!

I just did Week 2 day one and see what everyone is talking about! It wasn't as hard (atleast I didn't think so) as week 1. I really found my groove today and was running to the beat. I also went from watching the seconds go by (and thinking "please hurry up") to watching out the window and thinking motivating thoughts like "Im gonna make this months goal, Im gonna fit into that dress, Im gonna be skinny IF I JUST KEEP GOING" and it kept me moving! I like the songs better on podrunner week 2 better than week 1.
