July 22, 2014 here! I am down 80 lbs and still losing a little bit - just a pound here & there. I feel great, better than I have in years. I was really hesitant about doing this but with so many comorbidities, it was just the best way to help. I have gone from a size 20 to a size 12 and really enjoy shopping in the regular size clothes rather than the women's larger sizes. Best part? I will not be the overweight mother at my daughter's wedding this Saturday! Loving life!

How long until you went back to work?
nelady replied to Sreeves's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow, I would never have made it at 10 days!! Especially in a physical job. I was so tired all the time, I was constantly taking naps. I didn't really feel half way normal for about 3 -4 weeks. -
Weak & wobbly with the shakes first thing in the morning!
nelady posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Does anyone else have this problem? When I wake up, I feel weak and sometimes have the shakes. It wears off after awhile, but it is really annoying. I have been getting all my Protein in and hydrating just fine, but this still happens. I was wondering if it's because I am going 6-8 hours not drinking anything because I am asleep. My RNY was July 22nd. -
I woke up from the surgery with awful back pain. Turns out it was the way they positioned me on the OR table. I've been doing PT and it has resolved itself somewhat. My right hip is not in good shape, so the PT guy says it may never go completely away.

I had surgery on the 22nd and was supposed to go home on the 25th, but I developed a fever that wouldn't go away. They thought I had a leak in the bypass and I ended up in the hospital for 8 days. Bummer. But so far things are going well.

I went back at 2 weeks and it was rough, I was so tired, I could barely make it.I work 3 days a week, 8 hour days, but I only worked two 4 hour days and then took the third day off that week. The next week I worked three 5 hour days, then came back full time the next week. It's the tiredness that gets you, not so much the pain. -

Well, I guess it was just a phase. I don't really experience this too much anymore. But I did find out that I am anemic AGAIN! Back to the IV infusions for Iron, what a pain! -
how long did your bypass surgery take?
nelady replied to HYCIERRA's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
MIne was 3.5 hours, but he had to take down a Nissen Fundoplication - a previous surgery for GERD. Without that, he said it would have been 2 hours. -
Well, I took my B12 shot and the tiredness has been relieved somewhat - yea!! I still have a problem with mornings though. I wake up and sometimes have the shakes and feel really weak. Not sure why this is happening. I make sure I get all my prtein in and am keeping hydrated. I wonder if it's because I have gone 6-8 hours with no liquids??

I had my RNY on July 22nd. It was a rough start and I ended in the hospital for 8 days fighting fevers and a possible leak. Home now, and doing pretty good. I am down 20 pounds so far and have just started the pureed foods stage of the diet. My biggest problem is the constant tiredness - I go to work for 4 hours (I am an admin) and then come home and take a 2 hour nap! From what I am seeing in the posts, this sounds like a lack of B-12 - guess it's time to get that shot.

Glad to see this question come up. I had my surgery on 7/22 and I am exhausted most of the time, especially first thing in the morning. Guess, I need to have my B-12 checked. Thanks for the info!

PRINCESSM How are you doing? I am still in the hospital 7 days later! First there were complications and they thought I had a leak, now I am on a fever roller coaster, up and down day after day. I have actually started feeling much better, but I can't get rid of the fever. I didn't realize what an emotional roller coaster as well - Thank God for my husband!

Hi all, I have been a lurker for a few months now, but finally got my surgery date for July 22nd. It's a revision from gastric sleeve to RNY. I had the sleeve done in January 2009 because I chickened out of the RNY. I was terrified that I wouldn't be able to handle it so went with the sleeve. Well, after 4 major surgeries, I gained all the weight back and my peripheral neuropathy is so bad, I can't walk any distance! So, back to the doctor for the revision. I am determined to get through this surgery and lose the weight so I can enjoy life with my kids and grandkids. I would love to hear from people who have had this surgery and can encourage me along my journey. I currently live in SE CT near the RI border - anyone near here?? Also, milk doesn't really agree with me now, but I see that alot of people drink it with their Protein after the surgery - has anyone had this problem, but been able to drink milk after the surgery. I can eat anything else dairy, it's just the milk that bothers me. I have a crazy work schedule - I am the only one in the office except for the boss who is on the road every day except for a brief stop in the office on the days I am here (M_W_TH). And we have to pay our Per Capita taxes on the first day of the month that I am in the office, no exceptions. So trying to schedule the surgery and all the appointments around that has been nuts!! I tried to get them to schedule the surgery the third week in July - no luck. So, they called today with all the appointment dates and when I explained that I couldn't make 2 of the dates and needed to reschedule, the woman got nasty. I told her I was off work on Tuesdays & Fridays, but she still wouldn't work with me and finally she gave up and told me to call the receptionist and I could deal with her and then she hung up on me. I did call back and rescheduled the appts, but even she got upset with me when I couldn't schedule my 2 week post-op appt for 3 weeks out and that I had to go back to work 2 weeks after the surgery on a reduced schedule. It sucks to be the only one in the office to do the work, but that's the way it is. Okay, enough venting! I am looking forward to talking to everyone. Thanks for listening. Yvonne

Well, the has finally come that I have both dreaded & welcomed. My surgery is tomorrow, the 22nd and I am a nervous wreck!! I want this, but am so afraid of all the complications that could arise. I keep thinking this should be easy since this is the second go around for me, but the sleeve wasn't as drastic and the RNY. I've seen so many success stories on here and I know the support is fantastic, but I am still apprehensive. I just hope I can keep it together at the hospital tomorrow and not break down. Thank goodness the hubby will be their to hold my hand. Okay, guess I will see everyone on the other side!

Surgery in a month and wondering about protein?
nelady posted a topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I guess I need to start looking at the different Protein powders and finding out what's best. I realize everyone has different tastes, but what were the better tasting protein powders?? Is there unflavored powder to mix with foods?? I saw Six Star Pro Nutrition berry Blast Professional Strength Protein Shots advertised at Walmart and wondered if anyone had tried them? I'd just like to hear from people what worked for them. I guess I will learn more when I have my NUT appointment at the Doctor's office, but wanted to get a head start. Thanks -
PrincessM - keep in touch. I liked to hear how it goes with you since we're scheduled on the same day

I have worked out a schedule for my appts finally, so most everyone is happy. My post-op visit is three wks out instead of two and she wasn't happy with that but oh well. I see you're not far behind me in the process. I also think it's better to go with the RNY rather than the VSG. It's too easy to overheat with the sleeve. Keep in touch and let me know how it goes! QUESTION: If U had gastric bypass & U had 2 do all over again verses the SLEEVE would U?
nelady replied to cindyvirden.com's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I had the gastric sleeve done 5 years ago and am now having the RNY revision done on 7/22. I wish I had done the RNY the frst time, but I was terrified of the surgery and thought it might be too drastic. I di lose about 40 pounds, but it crept right back on after 4 major surgeries and now I am back where I started. I am still worried about the RNY but this time I will go through with it. It has to be better than carrying all this weight around, especially with the peripheral neuropathy of my feet. -
