    Struggling with emotions

You are going to do just fine!! And you will be so happy you did this for yourself. I am almost one year out from my bypass, and life is so much better now. I am healthy and grateful. The next couple of months will be a learning period for you, but just go easy on yourself. I tried to eat solid foods earlier than I should have, and it gave me an upset stomach every time I did, but other than that I had no problems after surgery, and I'm sure you won't either. After a couple of months, I could eat anything with no problem. Good luck, and let us know how you're doing after you get back home from surgery.
  2. After my bypass, for about three months, I would get sick and throw up if I ate something that didn't agree with me (like meats, hot or spicy foods, fried foods). I would get an awful feeling of pressure in my stomach and then get the foamies and throw up mostly saliva. One time the foamies and throwing up lasted an entire miserable night. But now I can eat anything I like with no problem. So I wouldn't worry about your stomach turning and the foaming. It happens to a lot of us!

    Psych Meds after Gastric Bypass

I had to switch one of my psych meds from extended release to immediate release after my bypass. Fortunately, I didn’t notice any difference in effectiveness after the switch.

    6 Months and Stalled

I can so relate to your post. I am seven months out from RNY and I've lost 65 pounds, but I just can't seem to get to 70! I am in a stall now too, and every morning when I weigh myself I'm a bit disappointed. But what's really bothering me is the hair loss. I am no spring chicken and have passed menopause, so my hair was thinning out even before the surgery, but now, my hair is downright sad, it's so thin! I recently ordered a couple of wigs, and I'm actually enjoying wearing them. At least I can go out in public now without looking like a plucked chicken! But it's all been worth it, because I feel good and I'm so much healthier. I went to my doc this week and she said that if my numbers keep falling like they have been, she will take me off my blood pressure med, statin, and metformin on my next visit. Yay!
  5. Ah, yes, the dreaded foamies! I remember them well. It happened the first time I tried a bit of solid food, which was two weeks post-op, and it kept happening after that if I ate meat, spicy food, or dry food like chicken breast. The first time I tried ground beef, I was up the entire night with the foamies. It was exhausting! So my "don't ever do this" advice is don't be in a hurry to eat hard-to-digest things like meat. Take your time, and when you do try it, eat a very small quantity and see how it settles on your tummy. I'm seven months post-op now and haven't had any problem the past few months, so the foamies are a thing of the past, thank goodness!

    Vitamins after surgery

I take the BariatricPal Multivitamin One Per Day Chewable with 45mg Iron. I get the mixed berry flavor and it tastes good. The price is right too - $15.00 for a 30-day supply, or it's even cheaper at $40.00 for a 90-day supply.
  7. I had a hiatal hernia repair when I had my bypass, and I had suffered from daily GERD pains prior to bypass. I took omeprazole for about six weeks after my surgery, and then quit when my prescription ran out. Since then, I have had NO pain from GERD. What a relief it is to have pain-free days! I'm very grateful that my doc recommended the bypass instead of the sleeve, which is what I had originally wanted.

Lying about not getting surgery is awful

I struggled with the tell or don't tell issue, and finally decided to be honest with family and friends. I didn't want the stress of making up some "I'm doing keto" story or something like that. And after a lot of thought, I decided that I really don't give a flyin' flip what anybody thinks about my surgery. If they don't like it, I couldn't care less. And as it turns out, I haven't gotten any negative reactions. People have really been supportive. If they disapprove, they haven't told me to my face, so I at least haven't had to listen to negative garbage. But to each his own. I can totally understand wanting to keep it under wraps. When I was younger, I probably wouldn't have been so open about it, but I'm now at an age where I don't give a hoot what anybody thinks about me! 😉
  9. Good luck!!! Congrats on taking this step to becoming a new, healthy, beautiful you! I am also over 60, so I am late to the game, but that's okay - we're adding quality years to our lives and we'll be able to enjoy those grandkids! 😊

    The longest plateau ever

I can totally relate to what you're saying about the sweets. My stomach can tolerate desserts and sugar (unfortunately!) so I get sugar cravings, but I am now trying to stay away from all sugar. Easier said than done, but I'm determined. I too have hit a plateau, and eating sugar and carbs sure doesn't help!

    Psych Meds After Bypass

I was concerned about this too before my bypass. After my surgery, my doctor switched me from extended release to immediate release. It involves taking a couple more pills a day, since I now have to take divided doses, but it's no big deal. The best thing is, I haven't noticed any difference in the effectiveness, and it's been five months since my surgery.

    Postoperative multivitamins

I take the BariatricPal Multivitamin ONE with Iron, which tastes really good for a vitamin. I also consume three BariatricPal calcium citrate chews per day.

    Antidepresant Absorption post surgery Fears

I too switched from XR to immediate release antidepressants. I am four months post-op and have noticed no difference in the drugs' effectiveness. Also, I had no withdrawal symptoms of any kind. The only inconvenience is having to take them twice a day now instead of once a day, but that's no big deal and it's so worth it. You'll do just fine!

    Foamie Saturday night!

I suspect the chicken breast is what made you sick. I'm three months out from bypass, and the first two months I suffered from the foamies at least once a week. Ugh! Fortunately, it's only happened once in the past month. But I noticed that every time I got sick, I had eaten some type of meat or chicken. My body just had a hard time processing it the first two months after surgery. The first time I tried ground beef, I had the foamies for 12 hours and was up all night. After that I stuck with shrimp for a while, which my stomach was able to tolerate. Now I'm able to eat beef or chicken and it doesn't bother me. Although, I'm still steering clear of steaks and dry white meat chicken.

    I hate food....

Maybe you could try some clear protein drinks to sip on during the day. I think that food will sound more and more appetizing as the weeks pass, the dry heaves will stop, and you'll have more energy. I'm just over three months out and I'm just now getting to where I really feel like eating. The first couple of months I had problems with throwing up after I ate, but it's only happened once the past month, thank goodness. So hang in there, it will get better. And good luck with your next doc visit. Hope she's not in b***h mode!!
