    March surgeries

    You look amazing!! Great job!!
  4. You want to make sure your stay hydrated if nothing else because dehydration = constipation and if you're already constipated, that'll just make it worse.

    Gastric bypass take 2, update!!

Glad you're home and getting better! I had a complication from the blood thinner too so I know ALL about the "passing." Yeah... it was no fun. My blood pressure dropped to 70/34 and that was lying down. My hemoglobin dropped 5 pts, and I ended up with 5 units of blood and emergency surgery. Fun times, but as soon as that was done, I recovered just like I was supposed to and haven't had a problem since. I hope your continued journey is as smooth as mine has been! Good luck!
  6. I echo the need for a long cord. The plug is typically on the wall behind the bed so there's a pretty big gap if you want it plugged in while you're on it.

    where, when and how much?

I have BCBS of TX and I paid my out of pocket of $2400 and the rest of covered. It's nice having my out of pocket met, and I'll be having some other things done next month to take advantage of it. My insurance only needed a month, but since I needed it around spring break and I started in the fall, I decided to stretch it out to 6 mos but that was my choice. Every insurance is different even with the same company - I think it depends on what your employer included in the package so you should definitely call your insurance and just ask if it's covered and what they require.
  9. Congrats!!! I crossed into Onederland this week too! It's an amazing feeling!
  10. I'm 47 and had my surgery in March, and while the hair loss is real along with the loose skin, I would absolutely do it again. I actually started losing in October so I've lost a total of 115 - 70 of that since surgery - and while I have a few seconds of - oh look at that - or well, there's more hair, honestly, fitting into my oldest daughter's clothes takes that right away. I am no longer diabetic. This summer, I got to ride roller coasters and kept up with my family on vacation. Nerves are real. I had them. I think almost everyone does. But I would do it again, and I had a freak reaction to a shot that shouldn't have been a problem that needed 4 extra days in the hospital and a second surgery - and I would STILL do it again. Everyone is different though, and you have to do what's best for YOU.
  11. I am no longer diabetic so I'm not sure if it has anything to do with it, but I always used to get up at least once in the night to go. With your question, I just realized that I haven't done that for months!
  12. Same. It probably took about 60-65 lbs for me to really feel it, but I agree it was kinda overnight that all of a sudden my clothes didn't fit and people were like - Hey... are you losing weight.

    Pre-Op Diet and Constipation

Smooth Move Tea is amazing. If I need to, I drink it after dinner and by the morning, things are moving smoooooothly.

    Studying or Reading post Surgery

I'm a teacher and was back to work after 2.5 weeks. I was tired, but if I could have just sat and read, I'd have been okay. It really depends on the individual. I will say that I noticed my eyes were really dry after surgery so I bought lubricating drops and that helped a lot. I would say go for it but have a contingency plan just in case.

    Social gathering

I tell people that I've had it. I haven't blasted it on Facebook, but when I get the questions, I just answer them. I don't really care what they think as I did it for my family and myself. I haven't had any negative reactions - at least that I know about - but I don't really care if there are. I feel great, and my diabetes is gone so they can think whatever they want. Not everyone wants to be that open about it, and that's fine. Everyone needs to do what works for them. And do people really pay that much attention to what other people eat or don't? I never have paid that much attention unless it's some dish that I made specifically for a person and then I'm like - YOU HAVEN'T TRIED IT YET!!!??? If they keep asking if I want something, I just say - I'm good, thanks!

    ONEderland!

Normally I'm not a toot your own horn kinda gal... but bring out the trumpets!! I hit ONEderland this morning. Friday will be my 6mo anniversary from surgery, but I started the journey in Oct. 2020. Thanks to everyone on this forum for all the knowledge and support!
  17. Hello!! Just wanted to update and say it's definitely possible! I started this journey in Oct. 2020 at 311 and diabetic. Lost 45lbs before my March 2021 bypass, no longer diabetic, and today I hit ONEderland. I haven't seen this weight on a scale since 1995! Remember it's a journey - it's not a sprint or a quick fix.
