I didn't have to do a pre-op diet, my surgeon looked a bit surprised when I asked him about it and said....it's not necessary, it's not something I have people do. I'm going to ask him next week if in view of the problem he had whilst doing my band if it's something he will now consider getting people to do.

My liver was a problem during the op, it was still to big for the surgeon to handle and the op was almost stopped. As it was the op took two hours when it should have taken about 50 minutes.

Camjay, I was banded 2 days before you and can honestly say I didn't feel the euphoria that so many people refer to after their op. One week on though I am starting to feel a certain amount of pleasure from having had the band done. OH and I also felt lousy following the op. good luck

Hi there, I was under the impression that the initial weight loss following surgery can be temporary because all that is giving a person the feeling of 'restriction' is oedema following the op. It could be that you don't have much swelling following the op and thats why you aren't feeling restriction. My surgeon told me a couple of days ago that come a fortnight after the op I'll probably phone him and say ....whats going on, I can eat anything. He says I probably will be able to but I should try and use some willpowere not to regain the weight I will have lost by then, that if all I can do is stay the same till have my first fill 7 weeks from now - I will have done great. He says he wouldn't consider filling before I'm 2 months post-op as filling too soon after the op increases the chance of slippage. I think maybe you have to try and kind of tread Water for now, I know it's hard to concentrate and try to eat less but I think a person would get quite a kick out of managing it - even for a couple of weeks. Oh and just to add, my doctor didn't do a fill durng surgery, he says the swelling is enough. This is my first 'advice' post as a bandster - I hope it makes sense.

Hi, I'm originally from dundee but I've lived in oman for 30 years and I'm wondering if it's ok that I hang out with all of you. I spend two months of the year in the uk, either in Neath of Perth, every year. I was banded here in Oman last Monday and I'd doing great, I'm starving and wondering what I can have this week. thank you

Hello, it's nice to be here, my name is Milly and I'm due to be banded on the 23rd of June. I'm originally from Scotland but I've lived in the middle east for 30 years now. I first enquired about having a band done almost 15 months ago but I didn't follow through with it given I was still convinced I could lose 100 pounds alone. A couple of weeks ago I just woke up one day and faced facts, that no amount of trying to go it alone was going to work and that I'd ahd enough of thinking each day was going to be the day I would finally get my head around losing weight the conventional way. So off to the surgeons I went........and the rest is yet to come. I can't say that I'm exstatic to be having the band done, I still wish I could lose weight without it but I know I can't so all I'll say is I'm at peace with having it done. I read on another thread about pre-op diets, well I don't have to do one either. I think it all depends on the state of your liver when you have your ultrasound done, if your liver looks large you do the diet and if it doesn't look large you dont have to. I'm going to be doing one though, I think I have to in order to show myself that I can. milly :cursing:
