I had a lap band placed in October 2011 with a BMI of 35 with co-morbidities such as massive varicose veins and high blood pressure. I was successful with it, I was able to lose weight and keep it off for 7 years. I started having complications in 2018 that resulted in me being hospitalized for 3 days due to esophagitis and gastritis. I had all fluid removed in 2018 and sadly have gained all my weight back and more. I'm looking to get my lap band removed and after speaking with a new surgeon (due to insurance reasons, my original surgeons are not covered with my new insurance) a VSG is the route I'm going. I've done all my pre-op tests including all blood work, H. pylori testing, stomach biopsies, Upper GI series, an EGD, support groups, pre-op nutritionist visit, post-op nutritionist visit and a psych evaluation. I was also ordered to lose 13% of my initial weigh in weight which I have plus more, following my pre-op nutritionists food plan. My surgeon agreed upon the revision in a one step approach and I'm currently awaiting insurance approval. Crossing my fingers to have the surgery performed this year....
Motivations for this surgery....I work in healthcare and need to feel healthy.  I also have a heavy familial history of high blood pressure, diabetes, stroke, DVT's, and heart attacks on both side of my family. I thought I was out of the woods with my original surgery but complications have set me back. I'm looking to take back my health and be healthy again.
