Nov 2020 Bypass Peeps?

Did you have the mini? Did your bariatric team prescribe you meds for reflux? I was given a 90 day supply of reflux meds during the healing stage. Are you measuring small amounts of liquid (the size of a shot glass) and just drinking that amount every 20 minutes. Start with tiny then slowly increase once you can manage 1oz every 10-15 minutes. -

Oh right, I think you were the same day as me? Thursday? I did the same....yesterday just water and tried a **** glass of broth just to get a taste in my mouth. I struggled yesterday. But this morning something switched. I take it my internal swelling is going down so I can take in fluid. I was petrified to take medication. But today things are working. I’m being super cautious with amount though. And I agree, no interest in food. Just trying to keep hydrated so I don’t end up in the hospital with an IV. We got this!! It’s your time to chill out and relax. Watch TV. -
I am going for mini gastric bypass surgery and don't want to tell work. Any suggestions of surgeries I can say I am having? Keeping in mind that it is during co-vid so it needs to be something that I NEED to get done as hospitals I dont think are doing surgeries that can wait? Suggestions?

What to tell work during co-vid??
TrueNorth1 replied to TrueNorth1's topic in Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery Forum
I ended up not saying anything. I took a few vacation days. Starting Monday we are in lockdown for at least 28 days. So I will be working from home I’m sure until the end of December. So it worked out for me that nobody needs to know. -
Nov 2020 Bypass Peeps?

Yes, I felt the same yesterday. Not really with pain...I just have aches, and not in the surgery area. It is the air/gas trapped inside. I’m feeling great today. I heated up my chocolate protein shake and have been sipping 30ml every 10 minutes. Whatever it takes. I think the first 4 weeks -8 weeks will be the most challenging. Figuring out what works and how much. I’m walking around a lot. Even put in laundry!! Now I will relax. -

Hi Shellzuk...my pain is low. It’s more aches than pain. I find it is hard to get comfortable in a position in bed or on the couch. But once I find it, I’m good. I have only taken pain meds once per day at night to allow me to sleep. I only sleep for 2-3 hours at a time throughout the day. This is now day 3....I feel much better today. I will try a little protein shake today and see how that works. I’m excited to see the scale go down. I went up after surgery but I’m reading that is common with the fluids they keep you on in the hospital. -

Hi Shellzuk. I did also. I’m having troubles keeping liquid down. I put a teaspoon in a shot glass of water, and drink a teaspoon. I fill it stays in my chest. How are you doing? -

Return to work after MGB

Yes....so when you say you can't get enough fluids, is it because it hurts? Yes, I have surgery on Thursday! Yikes! Actually, I am ok. Last thursday & friday I was having panic attacks! Moreso over how I am going to pull it off without anyone (but 1 friend) knowing. Hiding it from work. I didn't even tell work I was having any type of surgery. That has surpassed because we are going into another lockdown so I'll be working from home for the next few weeks anyway. Perfect timing! If there was anything good to come out of covid:) And the other, similar to yours, is living with 1 cup meals for the rest of my life. Never having fatty foods. Or sweet foods or drinks. A little bit of anxiety on how you manage that in group settings ie friends birthdays, my birthday!, holidays with family, vacations in general. I am petrified of "dumping". I I don't understand the don't drink water 30 min before you eat or 30 minutes after. So again, how do you do that when going out? I am afraid to have a drink without getting loaded! Its a major change. -

That's great! 5 pounds a week? I'll take it! We are not far off - I anticipate my weigh in on Thursday will be 185-187. And I am 5'4 and a bit. Hoping to be at my goal of 125 in 6-7 months (hello summer:). But quite honestly, once I reach 160 I will be super happy! The rest will be the icing on the cake! -

Wow! That is amazing! I am having the lap band removed and then having the mini gastric bypass. I am running with your support and encouragement! 2 weeks in - how much have you lost already? I am going to make a daily journal of what I felt and how much I lost to help others! -

Hi There, I also live in Ontario and my surgery is this Thursday Nov. 19th! I am also solo. Only one person knows that I am having it done. I have not told any family or friends. So, my friend will be picking me up and dropping me off at my house. Then I am on my own...unless of course I have major difficulties. I had the lapband in 2009 so I somewhat know what I am in for. Yes, there will be some pain, but we have pain meds to take as needed. Ad tired because of surgery and lack of food. Try to walk around your place as soon as you can to relieve gas. I didn't have this pain during my last surgery but my friend had it bad for quite some time. Other than that, it's a pretty basic diet for 4-6 weeks so no major cooking to be done. Get stocked up on chicken broth and premier protein shakes. And pureed soup. That will be your base for a bit. I will let you know how I do come the weekend so you can get prepared! -

Return to work after MGB

Thanks so much for the update. Your journey really helps. You are right, everybody is different how they heal. I read some posts that it takes weeks and others that bounce back so quick. I guess I want to plan for the worst but hope for the best! There are so many factors also; body healing from major surgery, low food intake, high protein, low carb, less or no caffeine. All these changes cause low energy, tiredness and brain fog. I have cut out caffeine a 4 days ago and I have a slight headache everyday. After day 3 of no caffeine I had brain fog, hard to concentrate, I was so tired. I literally came home from work and slept for 12 hours before work the next day. That's just caffeine withdrawal! I am trying to implement some changes now so that my body isn't so stressed on everything at once. And....now 11 weeks post op....how is the weight loss? Are you happy you had it done?
