Anyone for October 2020?
nicolenat replied to barbieater's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey everyone- I had my VSG on 10/14 so I'm about 2ish+ weeks out from surgery. It's been good, overall. My pros are: not too much pain, clean and healing incisions, able to walk and move around, and able to (virtual) work. My cons are: lots of air getting caught in my chest (can be painful, but more annoying than anything else), no appetite/desire to drink, and it's been hard to drink water specifically. The only lasting annoyance has been the air in chest. I have never naturally burped (never learned or weird anatomy) so it's been hard to get the air out through burping. I've been taking Prilosec and Pepto to help because it's interfering with eating and drinking. -
I've eaten refried beans but jazzed up a little with spices (you can also add unflavored protein powder)

Oh my god! Thank you for creating this thread! I'm post op (10/14/20) and I'm supposed to be getting around 40 fl oz of water plus as much protein as I can, plus pureed food. It's unreal the amount of what I need to intake when I'm also struggling with acid reflux and gas which prevents me from intaking really anything. I'm struggling to get a cup or two of any liquid (protein, water, pureed food) down at all during the day. I know this is very doom and gloom but I'm not even sure how they expect this much intake (I've been talking to my surgeon so he's aware).

New to the forum, had surgery Monday

I had my VSG last week and, as someone who never had gas before, the gas I now get caught in my chest is rough. I have been taking Pepto and Prilosec OTC which gives me pain relief but the gas is still there. I shared this with my doctor and they said it shouldn't be a forever thing but just momentary. I'm exactly 8 days out and still have the gas bubble in my chest. -
Cannabis and WLS

I have been taking an edible with THC since I've come home from my surgery. I was also open about it with my surgeon and he was fine with it. The edibles help the pain and help me sleep- and so I don't need to rely on the intense pain meds they prescribed. -

Hey Arabesque, thank you for the kind words. It helps to hear from others that things will change- so the pains I feel now will change in the future. I actually woke up today feeling better. Which means I'm capable of feeling better even though I have forgotten that the last few days. That goes for all of us who are feeling **** right now... it'll ease!! -

The protein shakes aren't easy to keep down and I have very little hunger but I know I need to eat something before I completely fall apart and lose all mental motivation. I read that people eat KFC mashed potatoes without gravy. I don't think that's ideal but the texture is okay and it coats the throat so there isn't too much gas/acid reflux. Maybe it'll help satisfy a craving without making you go back on your path. Sorry if this is a terrible idea. I had some KFC mashed potatoes today but only got 2 little spoonfuls of it down. -

Hi Samiaam25, It's so scary to feel this pain constantly. I know I need to try to eat something (pureed) but I can't because of this gas bubble in my chest. It's making me scared about the next steps in recovery. And with the impending hair loss, the dramatic and fast weight loss, and my ability focus and be positive about my journey. I'm a total sad-sack right now. -

I had my VSG on the 14th and the gas/acid reflux is insane. I've never experienced this before. I can barely take a sip of water and it feels stuck in my chest. It's been a lot harder than I originally thought.
