  1. I had a headache for the first 5 days of the liquid diet. After that it went smoothly. The hardest part is the beginning of this diet. Make sure to get as much water in along with electrolytes. When I had my Pre-op blood testing it showed that my electrolytes were slightly low. I made sure to add a bit of extra salt and electrolytes and that helped the headache I had as well.
  2. I think everyone is right about the holidays and the way that food tastes after surgery. My wife and I just had the sleeve done on 11/11. We won't have Turkey or Christmas dinner this year since we won't be back to full foods at that time. Right now, I don't even think about food the way I did before my surgery. I also agree that there are things I can't stand anymore including protein waters. One of the items I am working on is to savor and enjoy my food rather than overeat and feel overstuffed. I have heard before and fully believe that the surgery is only a tool that helps 20% with the weight, the other 80% is our mental mind games that we are playing and need to work on. If we don't fix our minds then our eating habits may not change and it can cause us to gain our weight back over time. This is what me and my wife are working on so that we can maintain the weight loss when we get to maintenance weight. Try to savor your thanksgiving meals and enjoy the family you are with. During the preop diet my wife and I lost 18lbs each so you should still lose weight before surgery. I have watched quite a few youtubers who discuss their weight loss journeys and who continue to help contribute in how to use the surgery to our advantage.

My wife and I are also 1 week out from surgery and we are definitely getting the water and protein in. We always have water on hand and drink all day long, except for when we are working on our protein drinks. If it is so difficult I would suggest getting smaller protein shots. I have seen them but not tried them though. A protein water would also work to help with the fluid intake requirement but my wife and I have not been able to drink them since we had surgery. We take our time getting our shakes in and it takes at least 1 hour if not 1 1/2 hours to get one 12 oz protein shake in.

    Having my sleeve surgery tomorrow!

You will do great. I had surgery last Wednesday and so I am fairly fresh to recovery right now. I know you may not see this today, but if you have anything that the nurses can help with (pain, nausea) then let them know and they will try to help. Walking helped with gas, but do only what you feel like your body can handle. Pain is only for a period of time and it is over quicker than you know it. I didn't drink much in the hospital but have been able to maintain the 64oz + of fluids that my doctor wants me to take in daily. Good luck on your surgery.

Not sipping soups although those are very convenient. Basically taking a soup and blending it and then straining it to make sure there are no particles left. Cream of mushroom, chicken and potato are also listed for my plan.

Our doctor allows us to do blended soups that are strained with unflavored protein powder. Cream soups can be eaten as well to help increase calories since we are not getting too many calories in right now. Our doctor prefers this type of simple liquid diet for the next 3 weeks while our stomachs start to recover. Yesterday my wife and I struggled to get our protein shakes and liquid in but today we have been able to get two down so far and are definitely going to make 64oz of fluid using the condiment cups and timer.

My wife and I were also sleeved on 11/11. I am using a few tricks to try to make sure we get our liquids in. I'll share them at the end. My pain is significantly less and mainly only at the incision points. They do hurt a little when I shift or get up or down. My wife's are a bit more painful at least to her they are and she is doing fairly well. We both have the burping/gas and found that burping ourselves on the top of the chest does help a little bit. For sipping we use these condiment cups. We don't fill them up all the way but they should still provide us with 2 oz as they are 2.5 oz in size. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07XK9LV22 For soups we use these spoons that have a long handle but small spoon shape on the end. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XXT3F4M We use these to time 15 minutes so that we get 1 full 2 oz serving in that 15 minutes for liquids. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01L8XF7AK

My wife and I were sleeved today. My pain has been fairly manageable. My wife is in a bit more pain. We lost 18 and 19 lbs on the 2 week preop diet. Happy healing to the rest of the sleeves for this month. The biotene dry mouth spray is amazing after surgery.

    Pre-op liquid diet

I made a few broths this week and here is how I did it. I took a rotisserie chicken that was already cooked. Put it in a crockpot with whatever vegetables that I had (mushrooms, celery, carrots, onions) and then cooked it on low for 18 hours. The best broth every. I did the same with a roast and it turned out amazing. My daughter was able to eat the chicken and roast after they were taken out and has enjoyed eating them.

My wife and I are going to be having surgery together on the same date. We have insurance approval but don't have our final date yet. I'm pretty sure we will have the date by the end of next week and I will update my post after that. Our preliminary date we sent to insurance was November 16th.
