Maisey got a reaction from lmsrny5 in 6 weeks out, what to eat?
I had a lot of chicken breast. I made sure to bake it so that it was not too dry and then chopped it a bit in the food processor to make sure it was easy to chew. I would season the chicken according to what ever taste was striking my fancy. Italian=Italian seasoning, a few spoons of no-sugar added Pasta Sauce and some mozzerella. Mexican=taco seasoning, cheese and Beans. Chicken=homemade gravy or broth with a tiny bit of instant potato. BBQ=Nashville hot seasoning with no sugar-added Sweet Baby Ray. You get the idea............ It helped me keep my sanity with a variety of tastes, helped get my Protein and incorporate real food.

I have started making sugar free Jell-O pudding with Premier Protein shakes. I love the pistachio pudding with vanilla shakes and the cheesecake pudding with strawberry shake.
25 calories for the pudding mix and 40 calories for the shake (I use an 11 oz. shake with cold Water to get the 2 cups needed for the pudding mix). I put them into separate serving cups with lids, stack them in the frig and grab one when I need a snack/treat.

Six months down! I’m weighing in today at 209.2, so I lost 8.6 lbs last month. Slowing down a bit, but that’s to be expected. Overall I’m 129.8 lbs down.

I’m halfway through a couch to 5k app. It feels great and kind of weird to be running. Like it seems almost impossible that someone of my size can run- then I remember I’m only 9 lbs from being overweight. It’s hard to remember my actual size a lot of the time.

I love how I’m starting to look, and I can’t get over how amazing it feels to run up a staircase that before I had to slowly walk up feeling my knees ache with every step. I’m happy every single day that I had this surgery. Some of my “new” clothes are starting to be too big. Yes, I knew I shouldn’t buy so much but oh well, that’s what Poshmark is for.

This month I want to finish the C25K app and run for 30 minutes straight...the thought is crazy but I’m excited by the possibility. I want to lose 9.4 lbs....which would put me in onederland! It would also move me into being overweight...luckily everyone here understands how exciting being overweight would be.

Crazy to think that six months ago today I was being dropped off at the hospital by my husband. I was so nervous and excited but also certain I was making the right choice. And I was!

I'm laughing with you, not at you.🤪 I say that because I said the exact "I learned my lesson and will never do it again." And I've said it more times than I care to count.
I had RNY, not sleeve, but the same thing happens to me. It has happened more times than I care to count. I really struggle to slow down enough. At times, even when I think I have eaten slowly, it turns out it was not slow enough. I find it happens most frequently when I am distracted for some reason....tired, in a hurry, multi-tasking, talking or visiting with someone during a meal.
Eventually, I actually will learn my lesson once and for all 🤣

How moly, it’s almost hard to look at! I still have so much work to do but I cannot get over the changes in under 6 months! At times I really miss a cold beer (and I am not really a drinker) or a good old dish of homemade Mac and cheese but then I look at old photos and it quickly reminds me that I don’t need them that badly! What do you miss or what gives you that added incentive to shut the fridge door?

Maisey reacted to NovaLuna in My Biggest Milestone So Far... 200 Pounds Down!
So, the entire month of April had been terrible for me. I've been dealing with a really bad osteoarthritis flare since April 5th so I only lost 1 pound the entire month due to inflammation issues and have been in constant pain since then. So, in the wee hours of this morning when I stepped on the scale I, honestly, wasn't expecting it to tell me I'd lost a pound because my weight keeps fluctuating between 190-193 and had done that the entire month of April. So I was shocked to see 189.2 on the scale! I stepped off the scale and then stepped back on it and it popped back up. I moved the scale and stepped back on it and, again, it said 189.2 for the third time. I didn't believe it at first lol (I think moved the scale like 5 times and checked it 6 or 7). But it's official! I can finally say that I've lost 200 pounds! That's a HUGE milestone for me! I have less than 10 pounds to go to get to my goal weight! And that just honestly blows my mind! I've been so miserable the last month due to the stupid flare, but seeing 189 on my scale put a huge smile on my face! It made my day! I just wanted to share my milestone...

I initially thought I wanted the sleeve. I had a history of occasional GERD symptoms controlled by OTC medication. The surgeon advised bypass for that reason and others. He said if I wanted the sleeve, an endoscopy would be required first. I opted for bypass. I have been happy with my decision and have not had any GERD symptoms since surgery.

I had a sleeve done yesterday, late morning, and I am about 24 hrs out.
My doc put me on gabapentin the day prior, and I had some dilautid in recovery. SO much LESS pain than I anticipated. I was about to drink Water and broth all afternoon and night with minimal discomfort. Walked twice up and down the halls... today am feeling well enough to get out of bed alone use the bathroom and walk without assistance. Had a tiny (1/2) dose of some narcotic overnight, more as a precaution, otherwise have been comfortable with Tylenol and torodol.
Good luck to all the upcoming surgeries!

First, there are people that have regretted having surgery. Generally they aren't on sites like this.
Second, all those bad things that you've read about in the past are still out there. Put them in perspective right next to all the negative effects of not doing anything. Choose wisely.
Third, saying goodbye to your favorite foods forever largely depends on your surgery type. Even then, none of the foods you mention are goodbye forever foods in reality.
In the last month I've eaten McD's. Red meat is in my normal rotation, you can pry my hamburger out of my greasy, dead hands. I've had Peanut Butter cups, though not much and not often as I've had RNY and I dump on sugar. In point of fact there is no food or drink that I cannot eat if I choose. I generally stick to my plan, so the worse the food/drink is health-wise the less often I eat/drink a little of it. All things in moderation, including moderation.
Your Doctors work for you. If your Doc is not doing what you need, then you need a new Doc.
You can succeed at this with the proper mind set. It is a big change for most of us. For the better, generally.
    Good luck,

    Hi everyone!
I just found out about this amazing site not too long ago and I been very encouraged reading everything's post, so I decided to create a profile of my own it also feels great to have this community of other people that know what each other may be going through. I recently had the Gastric Sleeve done on 4/19 which was performed by Dr. Zane in Southern California. I waited nearly an entire year to get this surgery, once I did all of the nutrition classes and did all of my appointments to get the surgery, I gained 40 extra pounds and I just give up on myself! But since December of last year, in order to get prepared for my surgery, I got my mind back on track and knew I had to lose a little extra weight so I lost 70lbs in almost 4 months before surgery. My starting weight was 470lbs. Surgery weight was 396lbs. After a little over a week post op, I am now 375lbs which is just crazy! Of course, this week has been challenging but I expected it to be a lot worse than it actually is. I am actually really excited right now because I got a call from my surgeon and I can now start the pureed stage, which I'm super excited about because im just sick of liquids.< /span>

Unjury makes some savory flavored soups--chicken and chili. There may have been others. That was a nice break from the usual sweet shakes. I also bought some canned gumbo and strained it just to get a different flavor.
I made my Protein Shakes in the blender with fat-free Fairlife milk. It whips up completely frothy--much better than shaken or stirred Protein Drinks.

Maisey got a reaction from Luna Girl in Replies to Questions & Comments
Lately I've seen a number of posts where people are questioning if they are too sensitive to comments and questions from others or what should be said in reply. Take this for what it's worth and it's only my opinion. YMMV.
We CAN help how we feel. No feeling is automatic. What we tell ourselves in response to a situation (in this case a comment or question) creates our feelings. That self-talk results in feelings that lead to actions and then consequences, both positive and negative.
If you want to change your feelings, you have to change what you tell yourself. The problem is that is hard to do. Our experiences color how we see events. Many of us have spent years telling ourselves narratives about our self-worth as it relates to our weight. I don't think it's a stretch to say most of it was negative. It takes a lot of effort and practice to change how we think.
But how we think is all we really can control. Husband made a comment in response to others?? Someone commented on your weight loss?? Someone said you look so good?? Your feelings are coming from what you are telling yourself. Who knows what the intent was. Even if you did know the intent, you can't control what someone else says or does. Examine what you are telling yourself and choose a response and go from there.

Maisey reacted to catwoman7 in 5 weeks post-op slow weight loss
almost nobody loses 100 lbs in 4-5 months. Unless they're the size of people on "My 600 lb Life", they would be rare exception. For most people, it takes a year, give or take, to lose that much.

I started out heavier than you. I lost 16 lbs the whole first month, so much less than you. And as you can see in my stats, I ended up losing over 200 lbs (took 20 months). Your level of commitment plays a MUCH greater role in your ultimate success than your rate of weight loss does. Besides, rate of weight loss depends on so many factors, most of which (like age, gender, genetics, metabolic rate) you have little - or no - control over. The two things you DO have control over are how closely you follow your program and your activity level. If you do well with those, you WILL lose a significant amount of weight, whether fast or slow.

Maisey reacted to Jaelzion in AM I MAKING THE RIGHT DECISION 😩
No one can answer that question for you. Only you can decide whether you're up for a permanent change in your relationship with food. But we can share our experiences. Like many people, I had a tough first week after surgery, but by week 3, I was much better. I had no major complications and I lost all my excess weight. I have no regrets or complaints of any kind. There are lots of people on here just like me. The thing is, people are more likely to post about unusual or negative experiences, so you won't see a lot of folks logging on to post "Everything is still fine." So reading the posts can kind of skew your impression of how the surgery goes for most people. Complications happen, but it's more common to come through the surgery just fine, with no major problems. I wish you all the best in making your decision!

I’m 4 weeks post op today from the Sleeve and I’m down 62 lbs from the start of the two week pre op diet and 37 lbs from surgery day.
it’s been 100% mental for me to this point. I’ve had virtually no pain, discomfort or uncomfortableness. But it’s been the hardest thing I’ve ever encountered mentally.
I’ve learned a lot already on this forum and have really enjoyed the content and the people sharing their successes, failures and everything in between.
Even though I have a very long way to go, I’m hopeful this was the right decision.
