Talking to skinny friends about WLS

I didn't tell anyone but my husband and my sons at first. AFTER I had surgery, I told my mom (who was the worst critic there is.. actually called me "ignorant")... I guess I am the exception to the rules.. Don't think I have any skinny friends.. All my family and all my friends are big... The slack I get, I believe, comes from jealousy on their part because they couldn't or are not "adventurous" enough to do something for their own problems. Hang in there! ONE DAY, WE WILL BE THE "SKINNY FRIEND" LOL!

Soon to be banned in Winnipeg

Hey! Just a note to give my 2 cents worth.. Getting the band for me was one of the best things I could have done for myself. I have struggled with my weight ALL MY LIFE.. and I know the band is working.. It is slow going, and as they say, "not a quick fix, but a tool," but I believe I am on the right track! Good luck and God Bless!

    Hello Everyone AGAIN

80 pounds! That is great! How much would you have paid BEFORE you lost 80 pounds to get that off? Think of how much more healthy you are now... The rest will come! You keep hanging in there! I have been getting pretty frustrated myself lately.. 1/2 pound to 1 pound a week... TAKING FOREVER.. and since I am a NEWBIE, not many people have even noticed a weight change .. have only lost 37 pounds, but I feel GREAT! Don't give up on yourself! ........ and I won't either! Hope to see LESS OF YOU soon!

    Too Tight or Just Right

man! you hit the nail on the head with this one! I have been having a really hard time for about 3 weeks... then today, all of a sudden... I could eat!... and eat I DID! still didn't overeat, but I ate more than I normally would have, and it felt good! Still, it gets frustrating trying to figure out why the band seems tighter at times... When I try to eat something and I feel like I am going to PB, I sneak off by myself because I don't want my "well-meaning" loved ones to know that I am doing that; I know they will say something, and what am I to do? I wanted restriction.. well, I got it... and I am in it for the long run! Is it worth it? Ask me after the first 100 pounds are gone!!

hang in there! you'll get there! I am only 4 months into this thing, have lost 35 pounds, and I envy 115 pounds you have lost! I really look forward to buying clothes and not having to go to the "Plus Size" department! lol

    Please help I have questions

I see you have some of the same problems I do... I can ONLY eat eggs from the Omlette Shop (CHEESE OMLET...they are fluffy and go down easy).. I have found that the Cracker Barrel is a good place to eat on the go. You can always find some mushy vegs if you are having a bad day; I find the Chicken dumplings filling and they go down easily, just be careful with the chunks of chicken. I have the PB 3-4 times a week, and I am constantly worried about damaging my band, but then I get back on track and I have no real abdominal pain........ trying to stay on top of things. Good luck! 70 pounds is a BIG ACCOMPLISHMENT! congrats!

    Let me introduce myself

Sorry you have had such a bad experience! I had my band in Mexico and I live in Tennessee.. I was very fortunate, however, to get into the Fill Centers USA... They have been wonderful! They call for followups after my fills.. They call between times just to ask how I am doing. I do have the PB, but I just figure it goes with the territory. I guess I am just DETERMINED to get this weight off and get back to living life to its fullest! I have only lost 36 pounds, but it has made a major difference already! I am enjoying my German Shepherds, which we raise, breed, and train. I also just purchased my first Tennessee Walker horse, and I have been riding every day! I am loving life! Hope you find your place and happiness! God Bless!

four months and 70 lbs lighter!

Hey Baabs! Looking good! 4 months is really fast to lose that amount! keep up the good work!
  11. luckyfive101

    I don't get it

I know your frustration! I have plateau'd after my first fill. I still have restriction but I have been guilty of "eating around" the band. I eat what I know will not get stuck and end up eating too many calories.. Finally started counting calories again, something I had hoped would not be necessary, but I did not come this far to fail now!

    Will the band ever work?

Thanks lfoss! It certainly does help! I was doing the same thing. I am in the process of reeducating myself also! Thanks! And Congrats!
  13. Was good chatting with you tonight! You hang in there! We'll get there together! Hope to see LESS OF YOU soon!

  14. don't worry... that is normal. They do not leave any saline in the band during surgery. I had a followup appointment (which turned out to be a consult with no fill) and then my first fill nearly 3 months after surgery! I was able to keep from gaining anything, but I am only losing 1-2 pounds a week. Would like it to just "go away," but I think I am on the right track now! Hang in there! we will make it!

    Will the band ever work?

Bless your heart! I KNOW EXACTLY how you feel! I had NO RESTRICTION either after my first fill... then 2 weeks AFTER MY FILL, my band got tighter.. and I mean REALLY TIGHT! I thought for a while I was going to have to have an "unfil," because nothing would go down! It is relaxing a bit now.. Don't give up... I was banded on June 20 and have lost only 32 pounds! I really wanted to lose faster, but I do feel I am on the right track.. just SLOW GOING! Keep your chin up!
  16. luckyfive101

    unfill

it is sooooo good to hear that I am not the only one having these problems! I was worried my band had slipped! I am able to drink fluids and I take liquid protein drinks.. but last night, I couldn't even keep pudding down! Seems there is only a certain time of day I am ALLOWED to eat.. about 2-4 hours after I get up, and if I miss it, I miss my meal! lol! I am hanging in there, trying NOT TO GET an unfill.. I wanted RESTRICTION.. I HAVE IT! lol!
  17. luckyfive101

    A complication! Unlocked band.

what kind of band did you have? this is the first i have heard of this!
  18. wow! already 40 pounds lost! Good for you! hang in there!

  19. iliana, i was banded June 20.. have lost 32 pounds and too many to go! Keep up the good work!

    Work (Gautier PD)

hand in there! i was banded June 2008, 32 pounds lost.. too many to go! lol! I have 2 sons who are cops. You be careful out there!
  21. wow! you have done really well! 102 pounds! I was banded in June '08 and have lost 32 pounds so far.. I got a slow start because my band was empty until just recently. Keep up the good work!

  22. you will find that the chicken broth they bring you on the 2nd day is a God Sent! I keep it even now for the days I feel more restriction (happens sometimes 2-3 weeks after a fill) and I go back to liquids... the chicken broth is the only thing that seems to satisify me... Good luck! and CONGRATS!
  23. hey john! Good talking to you earlier! I read your profile. I too am a musician.. i play guitar (about 35 years now), play dog-house bass for about 15 years, and I have been taking fiddle lessons, but those are not going so well! lol! I have sang in country bands, bluegrass band, and gospel groups... I have a karaoke machine, but only for personal use.. wouldn't dare try it in public! keep in touch and keep up the good work!

  24. hey! I read your story... I too have been overweight most of my life.. struggled all through elementary, high school.. and mangaged to keep it under fair control in my early 20s.. then I blossomed... I never could get a doc in Tennessee to give me a letter for banding (they are a little backwards about things like this still).. so I made the decision to get it done regardless! I went to Tiajuana Mexico in June 08 and was banded on 20th! I have lost a little over 30 pounds and I WOULD DO IT AGAIN IN A HEARTBEAT! it isn't a "quick fix" but I believe I have the tools to succeed this time! My husband was born in Farmville Virginia... not far from you, I believe... Keep kin touch!

My last fill - 2.4cc in my 4cc band

thanks for the info! This happened to me also! you would think after the first week post fill you wouldn't experience the "overfill" sensation! Glad to know I am not the only one exsperiencing this! i was a little worried for a while! Keep up the good work!
