Dr Carson Liu- Los Angeles anyone??
di1138 replied to di1138's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Thanks. I went through California Baratric and they were fantastic with helping me with the insurance end. I can't speak to what his pretesting requirement are yet however I had just had a work up from my cardiologist and took him all my recent records. Thanks for your input. -
Surgery Friday...Please Wish Me Luck
di1138 replied to Tracyde730's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
HI TRACY! I thought your surgery was this week. Congratulations! Please let us know how you are doing. I appealed Horizon BC BS of NJ regarding the 6 month diet. Sometimes being a pack rat pays off. I had a lot of documentation from a lot of the diets I was on. I also sent them 20 pages of Jenny Craig notes. All total I sent the 47 pages! I must have backed up their fax for an hour. They reversed the decision yesterday. Now I am just trying to get my surgery date. Good luck and best wishes to you as you start your journey to good health, -
you might try Obesitylaw.com. What they did was 100% wrong! Good luck.

Were you informed about PS before you were banded?
di1138 replied to Dr. Schulman's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Please define "NEED" I know there might be a lot of loose skin after losing 100lbs and may want plastic surgery but never told I may "need it". I of course would not change my mind about the band because my health is more important than saggy skin but if it is a medical necessity I would like to know why. Thank you. -
Certainly sounds like you should be losing. Could you be holding water? Everything you are eating except the egg is high in salt. Good luck hope it changes soon.

Thrilled with the 6+ month wait
di1138 replied to sandibly's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
sorry hit enter too soon! I was saying Optifast. I did that over 15 years ago and lost 60 lbs but have no records since it was a clinic. I faxed in a letter asking them to reconsider or give me the details of what is need. My insurance is Horizon Blue Cross of NJ. Also the insurance contact in the doctors office said I have to be careful not to lose too much or they wont okay me. I feel like I fell into a black hole. -
Thrilled with the 6+ month wait
di1138 replied to sandibly's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Today I was finally told that I had to do the 6 months. Only problem is no one at the insurance company is telling where I can go. I was on the phone the better part of today and the only answer I got was "Medically supervised". One RN said she thought I had to do something like OPTI -
How exciting for both of you!!! Keep us posted! Best of luck!!!!!!

Just wanted to say Hi. I live in CA but my husband is from Syracuse. I grew up in NJ. We have spent a lot of good times at the Universities sporting events before he had a stroke in 2002. We moved out here for better weather. Today he was telling me he misses the snow! Good luck to you with your banding!

Kaytie, perhaps you do not know why some were offered with your word " ghetto". Webster defines it as "any section of a city in which members of a minority group lives or which they are restricted by social discrimination". That is the true meaning. I hope what you wanted to say was you feared it was in a high crime neighborhood and not meant to point fingers at a race. That being said you should go where you are comfortable. Good luck.

Glad you are doing better! I think you did great only gaining 35 lbs. I swear I can gain that much in 2 days !

Now I am nervous! Not banded yet but my doctor said I will only need (get) liquid tylenol. I hope it is strong enough. Good luck and congratulations on your surgery!

Banded July 3rd 2008, Katy Texas
di1138 replied to kmhastings's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
18 lbs in 26 days sounds great to me! That is over a 1/2 lb per day! you are doing great! Hang in there. Sometimes the body hold water. Keep eating healthy and you will be fine! -
April, I get it big time! There is a line in the movie "Troy" where Brad Pitts character says "Man is a retched creature" (Man, woman whatever!) Needless to say you and I now there are some wonderful people out there but the retched masses are what make us feel the way we do! That young person is the one with the problem NOT you! Be proud of your accomplishments and forget about her. Best of luck to you. It sounds like you are raising your son right!

Does anyone else's weight flex between 4 & 5 lbs a day
di1138 replied to mamalovell's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes your weight fluctuates. Every thing you eat "weighs" something. If you weigh your self first thing in the morning then drink 8 oz of water and weigh again you will weigh more. First thing in the morning is the best time but stop making yourself crazy by weighing every day. Remember sodium also will make you hold water and weigh more. Best of luck. -
my mom has lap band.. and she is in danger
di1138 replied to sammie1030's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Sorry but this Mom is irresponsible! I am sure she know her child is freaking out. As an adult she should know to, at the vary least, call her doctor! If she is not I can't help but wonder why she wouldn't. Is there more to this than we know? I sincerely hope both mom and daughter are okay. -
It is the strangest thing, this 6 month diet. I got a "approval number" from my insurance company. But the RN who gave it told my insurance contact that she had to give it to the Medical director to approve or deny without the 6 month diet. I ask her if I do have to do the 6 month diet is it in my best interest to lose weight and if so how much. She said I shouldn't lose too much or they will deny my surgery all together. Then why did they give me the approval if I still have to wait? I think it is the insurance companies way of hoping we get fed up (no pun intended ) and give up on the idea. Good luck to you.

Super Nanny any one?? Her methods work. I do believe hitting teaches a child to hit. Dont get me wrong my kids had their butts smacked a few times but that is not spanking. Hitting hard and repetitively is and that is abuse.

First Consultation...I left feelin horrible
di1138 replied to boomski's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
What a horrible experience! Find another doctor. I researched and thought seriously about it for a year. I finally asked my cardiologist what he thought and he was very encouraging. He did explain that eating habits still have to change but he stressed it was a great tool. I then asked my OB/GYN about it and he said he encouraged me to do it. He said it was much safer and healthier than bypass and knowing my weight history he thought it would be great for me. I believe a doctors support is very important. You deserve better! -
Switch to mushies early??
di1138 replied to lotzasunshine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Be careful of Ramen noodles. If you have high blood pressure they are very high in sodium. I agree check with your doctor before doing anything off schedule. Good luck and congratulations on your band. I am waiting for my surgery date. -
Oh Tina, this is the plight of all caregivers. We forget about taking care of ourselves. I am not banded yet but just got my insurance approval today. I have been caring for my husband for the last 5 years since he had a stroke. I had lost all my weight right before his stroke and have gained back well over 100 lbs. All I can suggest is to put all the effort you put into taking care of your Mom into taking care of YOU! Yes easier said than done but I am sure she wants what is best for you. Forget about what you gained and with your next meal start all over again! You are in my prayers. You can do it! Best of luck.

I am not banded yet so I dont know the answer regarding the band but dont dismiss the pain as only being band related. Check with a doctor. While it is probably a long shot those symptoms could be something more serious than the band, like your heart. Not trying to get you upset but most people ignore heart symptoms. Good luck and let us know how you are doing.

Please document all this and send it to the person who recommended him as well as your insurance company. Sounds like he needs therapy!
